Netzwerke von Schulen, Schulleitungen und Lehrkräften haben derzeit Hochkonjunktur, auch in der empirischen Bildungsforschung. Eher selten werden sie dabei jedoch mit Methoden der Sozialen Netzwerkanalyse untersucht, obwohl die Analyse von Beziehungsstrukturen wesentlich zur Erklärung von Lern- und Entwicklungsprozessen der Netzwerkbeteiligten beitragen kann. Während Analysen von Gesamtnetzwerken bereits Eingang in die empirische Schulforschung gefunden haben, stellt die Untersuchung egozentrierter Netzwerke noch eine Besonderheit dar. Analysen egozentrierter Netzwerke bieten mit ihren spezifischen Maßzahlen unter anderem den Vorteil, soziale Ressourcen in Form von Unterstützungspotenzialen sowie Informations- und Wissenszugänge von Personen zu erfassen. Die Beiträge in diesem Band basieren auf einer gemeinsamen Fachtagung des Zentrums zur Unterstützung der wissenschaftlichen Begleitung und Erforschung schulischer Entwicklungsprozesse (ZUSE) und der Fakultät für Erziehungswissenschaft, Psychologie und Bewegungswissenschaft der Universität Hamburg, in der aktuelle Hamburger Vernetzungsprojekte sowie Methoden zur Untersuchung von Netzwerken und sozialen Beziehungsgeflechten vorgestellt und diskutiert wurden. Sie beschäftigen sich aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln und Disziplinen mit egozentrierten Netzwerken und deren Analyse. Neben einer theoretischen Einbettung und exemplarischen Anwendungen in der Praxis stehen besonders qualitative und quantitative Analysemethoden in konkreten Forschungsprojekten im Vordergrund. Über den Autor: Detlef Fickermann, Jg. 1952, ist wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der PH Erfurt. Knut Schwippert, geb. 1965, studierte in Hamburg Lehramt berufliche Schulen / Oberstufe und legte 1993 das Erste Staatsexamen ab. In den Jahren 1990-2001 war er Senior Researcher bei der "International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement" (IEA) in Hamburg. Von 1999 bis 2000 arbeitete er als wissenschaftlicher Angestellter am Max-Planck-Institut für Bildungsforschung in Berlin. Seit 2008 ist er Professor für Erziehungswissenschaft mit dem Schwerpunkt Internationales Bildungsmonitoring und Bildungsberichterstattung an der Universität Hamburg.

Book excerpt: Lara Jüssen takes the case of Latin American household and construction workers in Madrid to show how ir/regular labour migrants make citizenship available for themselves through emplacements, embodiments and enactments of citizenship. After describing the sociopolitical context of crisis and resistance in Spain, citizenship is anthropologized in order to approach it through the workplace: the private household and the construction site. Based on empirical results from interviews, it is analyzed how citizenship is emplaced through ego-centered networks and assemblages that situate the migrants’ social belonging; how it is embodied through carving out of identities of the migrant workers, intersectionality of gender, ethnicity, and class, affects that imprint workers’ bodies, and experiences of violence at the workplace; then citizenships’ enactment is scrutinized through workers’ empowerment for rights, individually at the workplace and collectively through demonstrations and political theater performance in urban public space.

Book excerpt: Current corporate structures based on internationalisation and decentralisation are opposed to the nature of the most important resource: knowledge. The acquisition and exchange of (tacit) knowledge relies on interpersonal interactions and is thus time- and place-dependent. Given that the combination of heterogeneous knowledge stocks furthers innovation, organisations develop strategies to ensure the transfer of knowledge. To enable intra-organisational knowledge flows spatial mobility at the workplace affects a wide range of employees. The study examines in which ways spatially mobile employees, i.e. expatriates, contribute to those knowledge flows. The study of ego networks reveals not only social dynamics of knowledge transfer, but the geographical framework allows to discuss knowledge flows from a spatial perspective. On the one hand, the empirical results confirm their knowledge transfer function. On the other hand, the relational geographical perspective reveals that expatriates do not represent a homogeneous group, but their roles in the knowledge transfer process, the geographical reach of their networks and their knowledge resources depend on job-, knowledge-, individual- and space-related factors.

Whereas in most countries citizenship attribution is regulated at the central level of the state, in Switzerland each municipality is accorded the right to decide who can become a Swiss citizen. This book aims at exploring naturalization processes from a comparative perspective and to explain why some municipalities pursue more restrictive citizenship policies than others. The Swiss case provides a unique opportunity to approach citizenship politics from new perspectives. It allows us to go beyond formal citizenship models and to account for the practice of citizenship. The analytical framework combines quantitative and qualitative data and helps us understand how negotiation processes between political actors lead to a large variety of local citizenship models. An innovative theoretical framework, integrating Bourdieu's political sociology, combines symbolic and material aspects of naturalizations and underlines the production processes of ethnicity.
