Das Erkenntnisinteresse der vorliegenden Bachelorarbeit konstituiert sich vor dem Hintergrund meines politischen Engagements und Interesses sowie der Tatsache, dass Sozialpolitik und die Transformationen im Zuge der Globalisierung Gegenstand meines bisherigen Studiums waren. Zu Anfang ist eine Einführung in die Theorie der Demokratie und der mannigfaltigen Demokratiebegriffe Gegenstand der Bearbeitung. Es folgen Ausführungen zur Theorie der Postdemokratie von Colin Crouch, welche als Grundlage der vorliegenden Arbeit und Bewertung der gegenwärtigen Transformationen dienen soll. Als theoretische Implikation wird nachfolgend die Theorie der postnationalen Konstellation aufgeführt, vor dessen Hintergrund sich die aktuellen Transformationen konstituieren. In der weiteren Bearbeitungen folgen aktuelle Herausforderungen der Demokratie. An dieser Stelle wird ein Bezug zur Globalisierung und den von ihr ausgehenden supranationalen Auswirkungen hergestellt. Aufgrund der späteren Betrachtung globaler Organisationen und Verbände werden in Anlehnung an Albrow Soziale Figurationen betrachtet. Die Auswirkungen der Globalisierung führen zusammen mit der Theorie der postnationalen Konstellation zur Regression nationalstaatlicher Einflüsse. Mit dem Aufzeigen dieser theoretischen Implikationen und der Einordnung der Theorie der Postdemokratie in einen größeren theoretischen Kontext schließt das zweite Kapitel. Da die im zweiten Kapitel beschriebenen Transformationen sich auf die gesamte staatliche Steuerung beziehen, werden im dritten Kapitel die Auswirkungen auf den Wohlfahrtsstaat differenziert betrachtet. Die Wohlfahrtsstaaten Großbritannien und Bundesrepublik Deutschland werden in ihrer Entwicklung ab 1945 dargestellt. Es geht an dieser Stelle weniger um einen genauen Vergleich, sondern viel mehr darum, einen Hintergrund darzustellen über zwei Wohlfahrtsstaaten, die aus völlig verschiedenen historischen Kontexten entstanden sind. Es soll dem Leser die Gelegenheit gegeben werden, die aktuellen Transformationen aus der Sicht von Crouch sowie aus Sicht der in den deutschen Wohlfahrtsstaat integrierten AkteurInnen zu verstehen.
