Dabei soll auch darauf eingegangen werden, welche Rolle theoretische Konzepte wie die imperiale Lebensweise, die Klimagerechtigkeit und Postwachstumsdiskurse dabei spielen. Die primären Fragestellungen, die sich daraus für diese Arbeit ableiten lassen, lauten: Warum ist eine sozial-ökologische Transformation nötig? Weshalb besteht für die Soziale Arbeit ein Auftrag, an einer sozial-ökologischen Transformation zu wirken und was kann sie dazu beitragen? Welche Rolle spielen dabei die imperiale Lebensweise, Klimagerechtigkeit und Postwachstumsansätze? Das Leben von Menschen auf der ganzen Welt wird zunehmend von multiplen sozialen und ökologischen Krisen bedroht: Erderwärmung, Flutkatastrophen, Dürren, Ressourcenknappheit, Ausbeutung von Arbeitskraft und Verarmung sind nur ein paar der Bedrohungen. Diese Krisen entstanden durch menschliches Handeln. Dabei ist der Hauptverursacher der globale Norden, welcher unter anderem durch seine imperiale Lebensweise maßgeblich dazu beiträgt, dass Ressourcen und Menschen ausgebeutet werden und die Klimakrise immer weiter voranschreitet. Dabei werden in den letzten Jahren soziale und ökologische Fragen immer häufiger zusammengedacht, weshalb viele eine sozial-ökologische Transformation erwirken wollen. Trotzdem ist diese tiefgreifende global benötigte Veränderung bisher ausgeblieben. Auch die Soziale Arbeit stellt in vielen Professionsbereichen fest, dass Änderungen im Hinblick auf die multiplen sozial-ökologischen Krisenlagen vollzogen werden müssen. Was damit jedoch genau gemeint ist, darüber wird aktuell noch diskutiert. Wird die Soziale Arbeit jedoch als Menschenrechtsprofession nach Silvia Staub-Bernasconi angesehen, so ist es durchaus verwunderlich, dass bisher noch kaum ein Zusammenhang zwischen eigener Profession und einer sozial-ökologischen Transformation erkannt wird.
