This book was released on 1983 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Efficient use of agricultural inputs involves correct decisions on what production systems would give optimum yields. Good management decisions can only be made by considering information provided by research on crop responses to management practices. Field studies were conducted to determine the influence of planting date, row spacing, cultivar, seed treatment, depressing plants with tractor tires, and planting patterns on yield, seed quality, and agronomic characteristics of soybeans (Glycine max (L.) Merr.). In Experiment 1 (1981 to 1982), treatments were five planting dates (May to July), row spacings (12,18, 38, and 76 cm), and cultivars ('Evans', 'Hodgson 78', and 'Corsoy 79'). The 18 cm plots were in pairs. One plot was planted with seed treated with Vitavax (5,6-dihydro-2-methyl-N-phenyl-1,4-oxathiin-3-carboxamide). 'Wells' was planted in Experiment 2 (1979 to 1980). Treatments were morning and afternoon, and growth stages when plants were depressed in 25 cm rows. In Experiment 3, four rippled canopies were compared with pure stands and blends of 'Wells II', 'SRF 200', and 'Gome' in 38 and76 cm row spacing in 1981 to 1982. In Experiment 4, six cultivars were planted in pairs in 38 cm rows, perpendicular to each other. In Experiment 5, seed from Experiment 1 was assayed for Diaporthe and Phomopsis infection and for germination. Delayed planting reduced yield. Narrow rows yield highest. Cultivars did not differ in yield. Yield in late planted narrow rows, with 'Evans' and 'Hodgson 78', was not reduced as much as in the 76 cm rows. Seed treatment did not influence yield or other characteristics. Morning and afternoon treatments were not different. Depressing plants did not reduce yield until flowering. Since most postemergence applications are done before flowering, yield reduction is compensated for by adjacent rows. Canopy designs were not different in yield. Light penetration was not affected by canopy designs. Crisscross planting did not affect yield. Direction of row changed competing ability of cultivars. Delayed planting reduced Phomopsis infection and improved germination. Seed quality in narrow rows was equal to or better than in wide rows. 'Evans' had more infection and lower germination than 'Corsoy 79'. Full season cultivars or delayed planting produced seed of good quality.

This book was released on 1990 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of shallow water table depth on the growth and yield of soybean cultivars UPLSy-2, G2261, and Willis were evaluated at the IRRI Experiment Station from February to June, 1990. Plants were grwn in a furrow-flatbed system. Water table treatments ranged from 0.15 to 0.35 m (D25), 0.4 to 0.6 (D50) and 0.15 to 1.0 m (fluc). A free draining soil was used as the control. Water table treatments were imposed 5 days after emergence (DAE) until one week before maturity. No significant differences were found between D25 and D50. Results of D25 and D50 were combined under shallow water table (SWT) treatment. Grain yield under SWT 6.1, 5.2 and 3.2 t ha -1 for UPLSy-2, Willis and G2261, respectively. Grain yield of the control were 3.2, 2.4 and 2.3 t ha -1 for UPLSy-2, G2261 and Willis, respectively. SWT treatments number of pods set per plant and 1000-grain weight of UPLSy-2 and Willis. As for G2261, 1000-grain weight responded positively to SWT treatments. Nitrogen concentration in the pods was 4%, equivalent to 25% protein. Plants in SWT accumulated 250 Kg N ha -1 in its biomass in contrast with 100 kg N ha -1 for the control. Total dry matter accumulated was 10,000 kg and 6000 kg ha -1 for SWT and the control, respectively. SWT increased leaf area, plant height and stimulated stem branching. Grain yield declined above a LAI of 4.5. Roots exposed to set were wiry and highly branched with profuse nodulation in the upper 0.40 m of the root system. Plants in the control treatment had a distinct tap root with limited.

Book Synopsis Performance of Soybean (Glycine Max L.) Varieties in Response to Levels of Phosphorus on Lahar-Laden Condition by : John Eric Zabala

This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was conducted to determine the growth and yield performance of soybean varieties in response to levels of phosphorus under lahar-laden condition. The treatment combinations of phosphorus (P2O5) levels and soybean varieties were arranged using the procedure in Split Plot in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replications. All gathered data were analyzed using the Statistical Tool for Agricultural Research (STAR) through the analysis of variance (ANOVA).Among soybean varieties, PSB SY 6 (V3) and CL Soy 1 (V1) had a positive effect on computed seed yield per hectare, seed yield per plant, shelling percentage, weight of pods, number of pods per plant, number of filled pods and plant height, whereas the greatest number of unfilled pods was recorded from PSB SY 2 (V2). No significant findings were seen in terms of root length and number of seeds per pod among varieties. On the other hand, application of soil recommendation (T2) and fertilizer recommendation + 80KG P2O5 (T4), regardless of the variety, attained the highest computed seed yield per hectare, seed yield per plant, weight of pods, number of seeds per pod, number of pods per plant and number of filled pods per plant. Longest root length and most number of unfilled pods were recorded from the control (T1). Plant height and the longest root length were recorded from plants applied with soil recommendation + 40KG P2O5 (T3). There were no significant differences observed for shelling percentage and weight of 100 seeds. There was no interaction effect on the weight of 100 seeds and root length; however, the highest computed seed yield per hectare was recorded from PSB SY 6 (V3) applied with fertilizer recommendation + 80KG P2O5 (T4). The same treatment combination got the highest value with the lowest shelling percentage, most number of filled pods and heaviest 100 seeds.Cost and return analysis of computed seed yield per hectare showed that PSB SY 6 (V3) under lahar-laden condition registered the highest ROI among other varieties with 102.03% ROI. Regardless of the variety, soil sample recommendation (T2) fertilization marked the highest income among the treatments with Php 22,878.00 per hectare and ROI of 111.31%.
