He is the Program Co-chair of the Religions of Asia section for the American Academy of Religion, Western Region (AAR/WR) conference, and is academic adviser and grant writer for South East Asian Cultural Heritage & Musical Performing Arts (SEACHAMPA). Lee is also a member of the National Association for the Education and Advancement of Cambodian, Laotian and Vietnamese Americans (NAFEA) and is a member of the editorial review board of the "Journal of Southeast Asian American Education & Advancement." His recent publications include "Cambodian American Experiences: Histories, Communities, Cultures, and Identities" (2010) and "The Encyclopedia of Asian American Folklore and Folklife" (on-press).

Working from a unique theoretical foundation that combines linguistic anthropology, Asian American studies, and education, and using rigorous linguistic anthropological tools to closely examine video- and audio- recorded interactions gathered during the video-making project (in which teen participants learned the skills for creating their own video and adult staff learned to respect and value the local knowledge of youth), the author builds a compelling link between micro-level uses of language and macro-level discourses of identity, race, ethnicity, and culture. Dispersal, compelled by economic circumstance, political turmoil, and war, engenders personal, familial, and spiritual dislocation, and provokes a questioning of identity and belonging. This volume features original works by scholars from Asia, America, and Europe that highlight these trends and perspectives on Southeast Asian migration within and beyond the Asia-Pacific region. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach -- with contributions from sociology, political science, anthropology, and history -- and anchored in empirical case studies from various Southeast Asian countries, it extends the scope of inquiry beyond the economic concerns of migration, and beyond a single country source or destination, and disciplinary focus.
