Book Synopsis It Is Our Nature to Love... and Nature Is Our Inspiration by : P F Bulmer
Download or read book It Is Our Nature to Love... and Nature Is Our Inspiration written by P F Bulmer and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some readers may ask, why is a book of poems called a book of lyrics and songs, or vice versa? This may be because the word, poem, can be misused, and may be the most misused word in the English language, and leads one to be very cautious about using it. More recently the word poem, seems to have included pretty well any thing. What makes a good poem, who really knows? But it does seem have to be a little more than well-written prose. The Oxford dictionary describes a poem, as a piece of imaginative writing in verse and poetry as a quality of beauty or emotional power, poetry and fire, balanced in music. At what stage do songs and lyrics become poetry is not very clear but the connection is clearly very close.

Download or read book Souls Undressing written by Zoltan Pinter and published by Zoltan Pinter. This book was released on 2021-08-12 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In ancient times many teachings were written in the style called Sutra. The idea behind Sutra is if there is something you can say in six words – say it in five. The sixth word has to be found. They believed this was the only way in which you could understand life. In Souls Undressing I set out to find the ‘sixth word’ as both a therapist and as an individual. As I embark on this journey I will relive and revive some of the pivotal moments from my therapy cases through the lens of literature and my own life experience. Along the way I found unlearning becoming more important than learning. Undressing. Loosening the hold on old patterns, unbuttoning and perhaps even throwing them away. When souls meet other souls without their usual costumes. In these stories you may easily find yourself facing your own feelings, dilemmas and life situations. You may even come to meet yourself. And me. For writing about unbuttoning our souls, the therapist cannot remain dressed either.
Download or read book Poems by Joe written by Joe Booze and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2009-10 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The poems you will read in this book came to me as they did in my first book, "Poems by Joe" in many different ways. Some are the results of news broadcast or from a program while listening to the raido. Others, while people watching or just sitting and allowing my mind to wander. Even so, some were very painful to write, such as the fire that destroyed a day care center in northern Mexico where over 40 children died as a result of the flames and fumes. Tearfully I wrote the the poem, "Why This Way." An article in our local newspaper about women and young girls being raped so freely in South Africa inspired me to write the poem, It's All Free." However, there are some that I wrote are family related. "My Sister Winnie," "Her Light," "Until Tomorrow" plus "The Other Side," and "Judy." On the lighter side you will find, "No Ordinary Bird," "Hurricane Kate" and "Our Friend Joe," quite amusing. You will find that all the poems are clear and uncomplicated to read.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Choice Outstanding Academic Title of the Year A Tablet Book of the Year Marking a departure in our understanding of Christian views of the afterlife from 250 to 650 CE, The Ransom of the Soul explores a revolutionary shift in thinking about the fate of the soul that occurred around the time of Rome’s fall. Peter Brown describes how this shift transformed the Church’s institutional relationship to money and set the stage for its domination of medieval society in the West. “[An] extraordinary new book...Prodigiously original—an astonishing performance for a historian who has already been so prolific and influential...Peter Brown’s subtle and incisive tracking of the role of money in Christian attitudes toward the afterlife not only breaks down traditional geographical and chronological boundaries across more than four centuries. It provides wholly new perspectives on Christianity itself, its evolution, and, above all, its discontinuities. It demonstrates why the Middle Ages, when they finally arrived, were so very different from late antiquity.” —G. W. Bowersock, New York Review of Books “Peter Brown’s explorations of the mindsets of late antiquity have been educating us for nearly half a century...Brown shows brilliantly in this book how the future life of Christians beyond the grave was influenced in particular by money. —A. N. Wilson, The Spectator

Book Synopsis The Souls of Venice by : Janet Sethre
Download or read book The Souls of Venice written by Janet Sethre and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How is a life defined by a city, and a city by the lives within? Where do an individual and a culture coincide? Perhaps more than any city in the world, Venice inspires these questions and suggests intriguing answers. This book focuses on people who have been shaped by Venice and have shaped Venice in their turn. The author considers them in five groups: the "mutilated culture heroes" (e.g., the eunuch Narses), who despite or because of some great sacrifice helped the city define itself and its mission; the "fugitives from splendor" (e.g., St. Pietro Orseolo or El Greco), so overwhelmed by beauty that they fled the city; the "prisoners of Venice"-the convicts, the cloistered, the mad; the "symbiotics," who lived in close communion with the city for long periods of time (e.g., Titian) and the "fugitives from self" (e.g., Igor Stravinsky), who have come from elsewhere seeking a new identity, and who ended up helping to create a new identity for the city itself. More than a collection of biographies, this richly textured and insightful work examines the roots of people's "Venice-ness" as well as the city's own humanity.
Book Synopsis The Mexico Reader by : Gilbert M. Joseph
Download or read book The Mexico Reader written by Gilbert M. Joseph and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2003-01-16 with total page 809 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mexico Reader is a vivid introduction to muchos Méxicos—the many Mexicos, or the many varied histories and cultures that comprise contemporary Mexico. Unparalleled in scope and written for the traveler, student, and expert alike, the collection offers a comprehensive guide to the history and culture of Mexico—including its difficult, uneven modernization; the ways the country has been profoundly shaped not only by Mexicans but also by those outside its borders; and the extraordinary economic, political, and ideological power of the Roman Catholic Church. The book looks at what underlies the chronic instability, violence, and economic turmoil that have characterized periods of Mexico’s history while it also celebrates the country’s rich cultural heritage. A diverse collection of more than eighty selections, The Mexico Reader brings together poetry, folklore, fiction, polemics, photoessays, songs, political cartoons, memoirs, satire, and scholarly writing. Many pieces are by Mexicans, and a substantial number appear for the first time in English. Works by Octavio Paz and Carlos Fuentes are included along with pieces about such well-known figures as the larger-than-life revolutionary leaders Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata; there is also a comminiqué from a more recent rebel, Subcomandante Marcos. At the same time, the book highlights the perspectives of many others—indigenous peoples, women, politicians, patriots, artists, soldiers, rebels, priests, workers, peasants, foreign diplomats, and travelers. The Mexico Reader explores what it means to be Mexican, tracing the history of Mexico from pre-Columbian times through the country’s epic revolution (1910–17) to the present day. The materials relating to the latter half of the twentieth century focus on the contradictions and costs of postrevolutionary modernization, the rise of civil society, and the dynamic cross-cultural zone marked by the two thousand-mile Mexico-U.S. border. The editors have divided the book into several sections organized roughly in chronological order and have provided brief historical contexts for each section. They have also furnished a lengthy list of resources about Mexico, including websites and suggestions for further reading.

Book Synopsis The Instructional Soul by : Daniel J. Evans
Download or read book The Instructional Soul written by Daniel J. Evans and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-06-05 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Instructional Soul: Leading Schools with a Spirit of Innovation is about connections. It explores a new way of organizing our schools and aligning our curriculum and lessons that is long overdue. What we know with great certainty is that our educational system is comprised of a disconnected assortment of skills, subjects, and departments. What we learn in math has little to do with what we learn in science. Even worse, our students are often disconnected from each other, and our schools are disengaged from their communities. In many ways, school is simply a place where we drop off our kids in kindergarten and pick them up when they are eighteen. This book dares to suggest something different, a system that is fully integrated, aligned, and purposeful. It provides a new framework for how we shape our curriculum, involve our families and communities, and align our work around skills like creativity and confidence in ways that are so unlike what we do now that a revolution may be in order. In the end, that will require bold leadership and a collective search for our souls.
