Book Synopsis The Holy Spirit as Communion by : I. Leon Harris
Download or read book The Holy Spirit as Communion written by I. Leon Harris and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-09-26 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Holy Spirit as Communion, Leon Harris examines the pneumatologies of Colin Gunton and Frank Macchia. For both theologians, the doctrine of the Holy Spirit is foundational to understanding their doctrine of God, Christology, and ecclesiology. Drawing on the theme of communion, The Holy Spirit as Communion expresses the concept that the Holy Spirit is the person who perfects the divine nature and personhood of the Father and Son. It is the Holy Spirit who perfects the eternal communion within the divine Trinity, which is the source of the divine action that also perfects the communion in creation as an expression of the Father’s will through Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit as Communion explores the essentiality of the Holy Spirit through a unique approach to Spirit Christology: Gunton is represented by a radicalized version of Chalcedon Christology, and Macchia formulates his account through the overarching metaphor of “Spirit baptism.” Therefore, the doctrine of God, Christology, ecclesiology, and eschatology cannot be construed without a proper account of pneumatology that takes into consideration the eschatological perfecting work of the third person of the Trinity—who perfects creation’s koinonia as a gift from the Father through the grace of Jesus Christ.

Book Synopsis The Holy Spirit of Communion by : Marek Jagodziński
Download or read book The Holy Spirit of Communion written by Marek Jagodziński and published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. This book was released on 2023-08-14 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Communion is a dynamic reality – love, unity of life, mutual penetration, the closest union. The Holy Spirit is the Communion within the Trinity and forms the communion between God, man and the world, between people, in the Church and within whole reality of this world. Showing pneumatology as a dimension of the entire dogmatic theology determines the originality of this monograph. Typically, theologians focused their works on pneumatology itself. Marek Jagodziński's monograph is especially up to date since the pentecostal awakening in Christianity carries certain dangers. They take the forms of over-exposing the Holy Spirit at the expense of the Son of God, overly simplified ecumenism, emphasising charisms over the institution and putting personal experience over the community faith of the Church. The study is not only a presentation of ideas but brings new and inspiring elements to the scientific discussion. It is an original and creative contribution to the theoretical achievements of theology as a discipline of science. The dissertation brings a new name for the Third Divine Person – Communion in the Holy Trinity. Communion reflects the mission of the Holy Spirit which embraces the Church and the sacraments, voices a golden mean between forgetting about the Holy Spirit and the Joachimism of proclaiming the era of the Holy Spirit. The monograph justifies the simultaneous existence of Christology and pneumatology, brings a new perspective on Filioque and is of significance for ecumenism.
Book Synopsis Communion in the Spirit by : Robert W. Caldwell
Download or read book Communion in the Spirit written by Robert W. Caldwell and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2007-02-01 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While he was well known for his lifelong fascination with the nature of religious experience, the colonial American pastor and theologian Jonathan Edwards is seldom associated with a specifically Trinitarian spirituality. This study explores the central connections Edwards drew between his doctrines of religious experience and the Trinity: the person and work of the Holy Spirit. Edwards envisioned the Spirit's inter-Trinitarian work as the affectionate bond of union between the Father and the Son, a work that, he argued, is reduplicated in a finite way in the work of redemption. Salvation is ultimately all about being drawn in love into the Trinitarian life of the Godhead. This study takes us through the major regions of Edwards's theology, including his Trinitarianism, his doctrine of the end for which God created the world, his Christology, and his doctrines of justification, sanctification, and glorification, to demonstrate the centrality of the Holy Spirit throughout his theology.
Book Synopsis Holy Communion in Contagious Times by : Richard A. Burridge
Download or read book Holy Communion in Contagious Times written by Richard A. Burridge and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-01-07 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can the church celebrate the eucharist in "contagious times," like the coronavirus pandemic, and if so, how? In this book, Richard Burridge investigates a wide range of proposed options, both in the everyday physical world (fasting the eucharist, spiritual communion, solo and concelebrated communions, lay presidency, drive-in and drive-thru eucharists, and extended communion) and in cyberspace (computer services for avatars, broadcast eucharists online, and narrowcast communions using webinar software like Zoom). Along the way, he tackles the whole range of concepts of the church, ordination, and the eucharist. This book is essential reading for anyone desiring an informed and provocative guide to the theology and practice of holy communion in our challenging times.

Download or read book Get Us Out of Here!! written by Nicky Eltz and published by . This book was released on 2002-12-01 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dear Reader,What you are now holding is a most interesting book. The wold beyond is speaking. It is offering advice, asking for help and giving answers. It exists and speaks about life -- our life here on earth and of possible consequences of our behaviour. It tells us that it is not the same to be humble, loving, good, merciful, loyal and honest as it is to be proud, loveless, bad, merciless, betraying and dishonest. Atdeath this is not forgotten but rather remembered in total clarity. Not only is the punishment, or better yet the cleansing, spoken about; but also the length of this cleansing is so very much more. Then you ask yourself, is it possible? In the Catholic church one speaks about a transitory state which for a very long time has been referred to as Purgatory. Despite there being different theories, this state is always taken seriously. One needs it because one can only come before God cleansed and pure.
