This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever puzzled over how to perform Boolean logic at the atomic scale? Or wondered how you can carry out more general calculations in one single molecule or using a surface dangling bond atomic scale circuit? This volume gives you an update on the design of single molecule devices, such as recitfiers, switches and transistors, more advanced semi-classical and quantum boolean gates integrated in a single molecule or constructed atom by atom on a passivated semi-conductor surface and describes their interconnections with adapted nano-scale wiring. The main contributors to the field of single molecule logic gates and surface dangling bond atomic scale circuits theory and design, were brought together for the first time to contribute on topics such as molecule circuits, surface dangling bond circuits, quantum controlled logic gates and molecular qubits. Contributions in this volume originate from the Barcelona workshop of the AtMol conference series, held from January 12-13 2012.

Book Synopsis High Speed Tunnel Diode Transistor Micrologic Circuits by : Yohan Cho
Download or read book High Speed Tunnel Diode Transistor Micrologic Circuits written by Yohan Cho and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A set of logically flexible digital building blocks capable of implementing various logic functions with delays of less than one nanosecond was developed and fabricated in microcircuit form. The set consists of two basic types of circuit modules; with these, all conceivable digital system logic functions can be implemented. Tunnel junction diodes and silicon transistors provide gating functions, and a universal amplifier circuit module reshapes signal waveforms, restores amplitudes, and stores signals (flip-flop operations). Subnanosecond switching time is achieved by the effective utilization of a tunnel diode transistor circuit and hybrid integration techniques for microcircuit fabrication. The circuit provides the following characteristics: (1) low power delay time product (efficient switching); (2) effective noise immunity; (3) well-defined temperature invariant transfer characteristics; (4) relaxed component tolerances as compared to other tunnel diode logic circuits; (5) high fan-in and fan-out ratios; and (6) capability of performing all logical functions with two basic circuit configurations. The circuits were developed primarily for a high-speed digital system operated at a 100- to 200Mcps clock rate with a low impedance transmission line signal distribution scheme. Analysis of the circuit, optimization of the circuit characteristics, fabrication techniques of the circuit modules, and experimental results in a high-speed digital system are discussed. (Author).

Book Synopsis To the Digital Age by : Ross Knox Bassett
Download or read book To the Digital Age written by Ross Knox Bassett and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2003-04-29 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) transistor is the fundamental element of digital electronics. The tens of millions of transistors in a typical home—in personal computers, automobiles, appliances, and toys—are almost all derive from MOS transistors. To the Digital Age examines for the first time the history of this remarkable device, which overthrew the previously dominant bipolar transistor and made digital electronics ubiquitous. Combining technological with corporate history, To the Digital Age examines the breakthroughs of individual innovators as well as the research and development power (and problems) of large companies such as IBM, Intel, and Fairchild. Bassett discusses how the MOS transistor was invented but spurned at Bell Labs, and then how, in the early 1960s, spurred on by the possibilities of integrated circuits, RCA, Fairchild, and IBM all launched substantial MOS R & D programs. The development of the MOS transistor involved an industry-wide effort, and Bassett emphasizes how communication among researchers from different firms played a critical role in advancing the new technology. Bassett sheds substantial new light on the development of the integrated circuit, Moore's Law, the success of Silicon Valley start-ups as compared to vertically integrated East Coast firms, the development of the microprocessor, and IBM's multi-billion-dollar losses in the early 1990s. To the Digital Age offers a captivating account of the intricate R & D process behind a technological device that transformed modern society.
