A une époque où les progrès médicaux permettent de guérir de façon inéluctable bien des maladies naguère mortelles, accepter le passage du curatif au palliatif ne revient-il pas à une démobilisation et donc à une perte de chance ? Cette problématique est quotidienne en hématologie. Dans la prise en charge des malades en fin de vie, l'approche thérapeutique s'attache d'abord à la prise en charge des symptômes. Dans les causes de souffrance des soignants, la première concerne la prise en charge des malades en fin de vie et des deuils répétitifs. Ces constats semblent argumenter pour une démarche globale de l'approche palliative. Depuis 1992, année de sa création, le Groupe Français de Réflexion sur l'Accompagnement et les Soins Palliatifs en Hématologie (GRASPH) poursuit une démarche différente dans le domaine des soins palliatifs français et européen. Son objectif est de venir en aide aux difficultés et à la souffrance des soignants en hématologie, en proposant des protocoles de soins, des formations, des lieux de rencontre et des groupes de travail sur la base d'une approche multidisciplinaire mobilisant soignants, infirmières et médecins. Cet ouvrage concrétise le degré de maturité des travaux du GRASPH et l'originalité de cette démarche où les hématologues français montrent l'exemple.
