Book Synopsis Soil Analysis: Recent Trends and Applications by : Amitava Rakshit
Download or read book Soil Analysis: Recent Trends and Applications written by Amitava Rakshit and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-04-07 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soil analysis is critically important in the management of soil-based production systems. In the absence of efficient methods of soil analysis our understanding of soil is pure guesswork. Ideally the pro-active use of laboratory analysis leads to more sustainable soil productivity. Unfortunately, most of the world’s agriculture is still reactionary, waiting for obvious yield declines to occur before taking action to identify the reasons. The modern soil laboratory is pivotal to informing soil managers what adaptive practices are needed to address chemical and physical imbalances before they occur, and the intelligent adaptive use of laboratory data not only greatly speeds up and reduces the cost of empirical soil study, but can even render it unnecessary. This book provides a synopsis of the analytical procedures used for soil analysis, discussing the common physical, chemical and biological analytical methods used in agriculture and horticulture. Written by experienced experts from institutions and laboratories around the globe, it provides insights for a range of users, including those with limited laboratory facilities, and helps students, teachers, soil scientists and laboratory technicians increase their knowledge and skills and select appropriate methods for soil analysis.

Book Synopsis Water and Crop Growth by : A.K. Kolay
Download or read book Water and Crop Growth written by A.K. Kolay and published by Atlantic Publishers & Dist. This book was released on 2008 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No crop can be grown without being adequately supplied with the requisite amount of water at the proper time. A thorough knowledge of the hydrological cycle, amount and distribution of rainfall, water resources and irrigation projects in India facilitates efficient utilization of water for crop production. Inadequate supply of water to crops in semi-arid and arid regions adversely affects agricultural production. Properties of water, the mode of its entry into the soil and its absorption by roots of crops are important for irrigation. This necessitates accurate determination of the soil moisture content, the plants and available water which is essential for growth and yield of crops. Its deficiency adversely affects their growth and yield. Irrigation must be extended to unirrigated areas in order to increase the production of food, fibre and fodder for which we must know the source of irrigation water, units and methods of measurement of water, methods of irrigating crop fields, factors affecting the choice of irrigation methods, the degree of the suitability of the available water for irrigating crops and the factors affecting the suitability of water for irrigation. As water is a relatively scarce commodity, we must know whether water of a little inferior quality can be utilized to irrigate crops. In addition, we must be familiar with the precautions which need to be taken in this regard. The accumulation of excess water in the soils of the crop fields affects the growth of crops adversely enough to reduce their yields. Choice of the method of land drainage varies with the variation in the topography of the land. It is also necessary to rectify the causes of waterlogging to bring the waterlogged land back under the plough to increase agricultural production. This necessitates drainage investigation and laying out of the proper drainage system. Water requirement of crops depends on the climate and the crop. More water is required to produce crops in the arid region than in the humid region. Crops like paddy and sugar cane require much larger amount of water than finger millet and pearl millet. The book extensively deals with all these aspects related to soil and crop production and suggests measures to enhance productivity through water conservation and proper management of water resources. It will be highly useful for the students, teachers and researchers working in this field. Besides, agriculturists and general readers will also find it useful and informative.

Book Synopsis Remote Sensing and GIS GPS Based Resource Management by : T.S. Chouhan
Download or read book Remote Sensing and GIS GPS Based Resource Management written by T.S. Chouhan and published by Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2017-01-01 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remote sensing and Geographical Information System (GIS) offers an abundant opportunity to monitor and manage natural resources at multi-temporal, multi-spectral and multi-spatial resolution. This system is based on new tools and sources of information provided by modern technologies. These include Remote Sensing (RS), Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) are such technologies that are much more reliable, precise and efficient as well than any other resource assessment technology. These technologies give a visual impression of the landscape that helps to make quick decision in resource management. Satellite remote sensing, in conjunction with geographic information systems (GIS), has been widely applied and been recognized as a powerful and effective tool in detecting land use and land cover change. It provides cost-effective multi-spectral and multi-temporal data, and turns them into information valuable for understanding and monitoring land development patterns.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rajasthan is a land of extremes and the present book indicates the great variety in relief, climate, soil, vegetation, agricultural activity and mineral deposits. Rajasthan is endowed with diversified natural resources. The survival of mankind has always been supported by nature and its resources for centuries man has been exploiting these resources for his survival and development. In the rapid march of progress, the balance that needs to be maintained between exploitation and regeneration was however largely ignored. With the increase in population there has thus been great pressure on these resources leading to their scarcity and degradation. Proper Planning for management of growth is possible only when relevant information of resource, population, availability of social and industrial infrastructure and the trends in growth are known. The aim of the books is comprehension and understanding through functional co-relation Detailed in information is furnished for the purpose of illustrating a point and general functional relationship. The Subject has been treated in its regional aspects and an attempt has been made to preserve a balance between the physical, human and economic aspects in this book. In a book dealing with a state such as Rajasthan where agriculture, animal husbandry and mining industry are of a paramount importance, it is natural that much space has been devoted to these aspects of economic geography. This book provides updated information regarding land, people available resources and infrastructural facilities mainly through maps, graphs, charts and tables. I hope the book will be very useful for planner s researchers, teachers, Students, NGO and all those interested in developmental activities.
