Book excerpt: The aim of each volume of this series Guides to Information Sources is to reduce the time which needs to be spent on patient searching and to recommend the best starting point and sources most likely to yield the desired information. The criteria for selection provide a way into a subject to those new to the field and assists in identifying major new or possibly unexplored sources to those who already have some acquaintance with it. The series attempts to achieve evaluation through a careful selection of sources and through the comments provided on those sources.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book includes three essays covering the ownership perceptions individuals experience in family businesses. It advances current knowledge on the organizational factors anteceding individuals' psychological ownership as well as the attitudinal and behavioral consequences. Investigating overly strong psychological ownership, the first essay provides insights into the phenomenon of aging family business owner-managers who face difficulties in 'letting go', i. e. passing on leadership to their successor(s). The second essay offers a study of family business owner-managers' leadership styles and their influence on nonfamily employees' psychological ownership of the family business as well as individuals' motivation and performance. Given the special situation of nonfamily members working in family businesses, the third essay examines the effects of employees' and nonfamily managers' justice perceptions on both the ownership experience and commitment to the family business. The works presented in this book built a basis for several publications, such as articles in the Journal of Family Business Strategy and Group & Organization Management. Furthermore, they have been presented at various international conferences, have been nominated for a "most creative paper" award, and have contributed to the Academy of Management Best Paper Proceedings. The findings not only constitute valuable additions to current research in management and organizational psychology, but can also provide benefit for those interested in family businesses. Managers, owners, and consultants working in or for family businesses would likely gain from the practical implications.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Possession is a key concept in both the common and civil law, but it has hitherto received little scrutiny. Law and Economics of Possession uses insights from economics, psychology and history to analyse possession in law, compare and contrast possession with ownership, break down the elements of possession as a fact and as a right, challenge the adage that 'possession is 9/10 of the law', examine possession as notice, explain the heuristics of possession, debunk the behavioural studies which confuse possession with ownership, explore the LightSquared dispute from the perspective of 'possession' of spectrum frequency and provide new insights to old questions such as first possession, adverse possession and property jurisdiction. The authors include leading property scholars, who examine possession laws in, among others, the USA, UK, China, Taiwan, Japan, Germany, France, Israel, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Austria.

Book excerpt: The Law uses the terms, Action and Agency in several, significant ways which connect them with modern semiotic theory. In Law one of the main contexts for the idea of Acts is in Speech Acts which have become a major aspect of the philosophy of Language in the twentieth century; to Peirce, as the «father» of modern Semiotics, all thought is action, and thought has meaning to the extent that it has consequences in the world. Agency in law is inseparable from the idea of a Legal Actor, and refers to powers which are conferred by a Principal upon a representator to a Third Party. Legal Agents are mediators in law as signs are mediators of interpreted meaning in semiotic theory and semiotic processes. This collection of papers is a transcultural and transdisciplinary project in law and semiotics by distinguished scholars.
