Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are living in a cultural shift: digital communication has reshaped the way we interact with one another, form and maintain relationships, and gain knowledge and understanding. How might we go about communicating the Good News of Jesus Christ in the midst of these changes to an emerging culture shaped by digital media? This question addresses the whole church, from the baptized faithful to pastoral ministers and the institutional structures that serve the church locally and globally. In Connected toward Communion, Daniella Zsupan-Jerome traces the Roman Catholic Church’s contemporary thought and practice of social communication, from Inter Mirifica of the Second Vatican Council to the church's approach to communicating faith through social networking today. Throughout, a key question forms a common thread: how might we form pastoral ministers today for serving the church in the digital age and beyond?

This book was released on 2014 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are now living in a world of industrial and technological advancements. Such phenomenon made great impact on this modern society especially among the youth. This world is greatly influenced by the different means of social communication and it has created new cultures and form new ways of thinking. The technological revolution and communication development offer both opportunity and challenge to the Church in its pastoral and evangelizing activities. The Church is therefore called to attentive discernment in this digital environment. While it acknowledges the advantages brought about by communication technology and mass-mediated culture, the Church also needs to be vigilant, prudent and responsible in its knowledge and judgment of questions which confront the souls in the aspect of morality and religion in consideration to the present and modern communication landscape. The different communication documents of the Church while pointing out the need for proper formation in and for social communication of priests and future priests view the training in terms only of media training, as skills required for the ministry. However, proper communication formation means that it is beyond skills needed or tools employed in the priestly ministry. It must be a question of disposition of a person. It means that a priest needs to have a communicative, responsive, open and relational attitude in his every ministerial and pastoral activity. Such disposition is grounded on spirituality, a triple openness to God, to self and to others. This study attempts to investigate and analyze the present status of communication formation in selected seminaries and theological schools of Metro Manila. While it is primarily done in and for Metro Manila, its implications to priestly formation in communication can be applied in other seminaries outside Metro Manila or even beyond the Philippines. This study presents the settings, areas, and persons involved in the process of communication formation according to the different Church documents, the findings of the present status of communication formation in the seven selected seminaries and theological schools and the integration of data, expectations and demands to the fields of social communication and priestly formation. The study hopes to promote proper theological and communication formation leading to a participative, interactive and dialogical priestly ministry which is very relevant and apt response to the challenges of the digital world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The formation of priests means following a singular 'journey of discipleship', which begins at Baptism, is perfected through the other sacraments of Christian Initiation, comes to be appreciated as the centre of one's life at the beginning of seminary formation, and continues through the whole of life. This Ratio Fundamentalis emphasises that formation - both initial and ongoing - must be seen through a unifying lens, which takes account of the four dimensions of formation proposed by Pastores Dabo Vobis. Together, these dimensions give shape and structure to the identity of the seminarian and the priest, and make him capable of that 'gift of self to the Church', which is the essence of pastoral charity.

Download or read book Clericalism written by George B. Wilson and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2017-06-15 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Searching for answers in the midst of the sexual abuse crisis in the church, many blamed the clerical culture. But what exactly is this clerical culture? We may know it when we see it, but how can we 'whether clergy or laypeople 'go about dismantling it and putting in place a new, healthy culture? George Wilson has spent decades working with organizations to help them discover, and often recover, their foundational calling. He is also a Jesuit priest engaged in the lives of congregations. In Clericalism: The Death of Priesthood he brings together both capacities and gives his sense of the challenges facing the church. As members of the church, Wilson maintains, we are all responsible for creating a clerical culture. And we are also responsible for that culture's transformation. Clericalism aids this transformation by helping us examine some underlying attitudes that create and preserve destructive relationships between ordained and laity. After looking at the crisis and establishing where we are now, this book challenges us with concrete suggestions for changing behaviors. We are lay and ordained, but all baptized into the royal priesthood of 1 Peter 2:9, all called to spread the Gospel and do the work of God's love in the world. Ultimately, this is a hopeful book, looking for the restoration of a genuine priesthood, free of clericalism, in which we become truly united in Christ..
