This book was released on 2020-08-26 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Psychoanalysis, Culture and Social Action written by Dieter Flader and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-26 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dieter Flader explores how current social and cultural concerns are connected to the unconscious, and how this affects our responses to them. Flader focuses on the role of the ego, assessing how our feelings about these issues in adulthood grow from childhood fears and desires, and integrating the existing psychoanalytic theories of Winnicott, Lacan, Kohut, and others with sociological and political theory. The interdisciplinary approach not only analyses current social issues but also generates new perspectives and solutions, and examines examples including climate change, bullying, and vegetarianism.

Download or read book Economic Aspects of Digital Information Technologies written by Thomas Gries and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid development of information and communication technologies has been one of the major issues in the world economy of the last decade. Especially, the fast growth of the Internet has introduced completely new economic and related issues, like world-wide Electronic Commerce and its taxing, telework activities, distance learning, and so on. It has become possible to split organizations into small units which may form an electronically connected network taking new shapes in a flexible way. Since the growth of the Internet has been fast and fairly uncontrolled, a strong need for new laws, sometimes called Cyberlaw, has emerged. On the other hand, the individual skills of information technologies may be of critical importance to the success of a person in his or her professional career. This book discusses several new aspects and economic impacts of digital information technologies. A primer on Internet economics provides an introduction to the structure of the Internet and its economic issues. Further related subjects are taxing of the world-wide Electronic Commerce, Cyberlaw, learning with hypermedia, and distance learning over the network. We also discuss the general impact of information technologies on innovation dynamics, labor demand, and human capital depreciation. Results of a recent survey on European telework activities give insight into rapid organizational changes due to the digitalization of economies. General information technology related aspects, like the need of a rapid transfer of new economic knowledge and semantic integration of online information, are provided.

Book Synopsis The Baby Train and Other Lusty Urban Legends by : Jan Harold Brunvand

This book was released on 1994-10-17 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America's premier folk detective is back on the case, sniffing out those zany but dubious stories that "really happened" to a friend of your sister's boyfriend's accountant's mechanic. Jan Harold Brunvand—''Mr. Urban Legend" [Smithsonian]—tracks the most fabulous tales making today's cocktail-party circuit and shows why those stories that sound too good to be true probably are too good to be true. The eponymous episode—"The Baby Train"—sheds light on certain predawn activities that have linked unusually high birth rates to the whim of train schedule makers. Other stories offer a revealing peek behind the story of "The Exploding Bra," expose the embarrassing source of "The Hairdresser's Error," resurrect a "Failed Suicide" Buster Keaton would have died for, and show why adults are better off not bringing their comic book fantasies out of the closet. From "Superhero Hijinx" to "The Shocking Videotape" to "The Accidental Cannibal," The Baby Train uncovers the mysteries behind some of the bawdiest, goriest, funniest, most pyrotechnic urban legends yet.

Book Synopsis International Handbook of Violence Research by : Wilhelm Heitmeyer
Download or read book International Handbook of Violence Research written by Wilhelm Heitmeyer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-08-12 with total page 782 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An international manual is like a world cruise: a once-in-a-lifetime experience. All the more reason to consider carefully whether it is necessary. This can hardly be the case if previous research in the selected field has already been the subject of an earlier review-or even several competing surveys. On the other hand, more thorough study is necessary if the intensity and scope of research are increasing without comprehensive assessments. That was the situation in Western societies when work began on this project in the summer of 1998. It was then, too, that the challenges emerged: any manual, espe cially an international one, is a very special type of text, which is anything but routine. It calls for a special effort: the "state of the art" has to be documented for selected subject areas, and its presentation made as compelling as possible. The editors were delighted, therefore, by the cooperation and commitment shown by the eighty-one contributors from ten countries who were recruited to write on the sixty-two different topics, by the con structive way in which any requests for changes were dealt with, and by the patient re sponse to our many queries. This volume is the result of a long process. It began with the first drafts outlining the structure of the work, which were submitted to various distinguished colleagues. Friedheim Neidhardt of Berlin, Gertrud Nunner-Winkler of Munich, and Roland Eckert of Trier, to name only a few, supplied valuable comments at this stage.
