Book excerpt: Este trabalho visa oferecer subsidios a discussao de uma politica de recursos humanos de enfermagem para as unidades de tratamento intensivo. Sabe-se que a qualidade da assistencia tem relacao direta com a quantidade e principalmente com a qualidade dos recursos humanos disponiveis. Aplicando-se um instrumento, levantaram-se dados que possibilitaram uma visao das condicoes dos recursos humanos de enfermagem na unidade de tratamento intensivo, assim como as atividades mais realizadas pelas diversas categorias. Foram investigadas 20(vinte) unidades de tratamento intensivo e auscultados 10(dez) enfermeiros, 13(treze) tecnicos, 40(quarenta) auxiliares e 47(quarenta e sete) atendentes. Os resultados obtidos no processo de analise e discussao dos dados mostraram insuficiencia quantitativa e qualitativa dos recursos humanos e enfermagem e, que as atividades de enfermagem sao prioritariamente realizadas pelos atendentes e auxiliares de enfermagem. Espera-se que esta investigacao se torne um instrumento util aos que se interessam pelo assunto e possa estimular novos estudos no ambito dos recursos humanos da saude e da enfermagem (AU).
