Download or read book Global Purchasing: Reaching for the World written by Victor Pooler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his book, Global Purchasing: Reaching/or the World, Victor Pooler has stripped the supposed maze of complexity and misunderstanding from international com merce. This book provides extensive background materials for both the purchas ing/materials practitioner and the academic who wishes to use it as a text. The author's extensive international experience lends credibility. Of special interest are the global supplier sourcing strategies. The basics of good offshore buying are universal and of great importance to America. There is a need to analyze and investigate global supplier capabilities. On-the-job buyers need global techniques they can apply. Import prices are destined to rise, and it will take better buying strategies to deal with the multi-bil lions of dollars of purchases made outside the United States. This book brings together in great detail the full spectrum of benefits available to the global buyer. He or she has an opportunity to view the global economy and understand its financial implications. It contains a working knowledge of import regulations, customs tariffs,_ currency translation issues, hedging, cultural aware ness applied to negotiations, and logistics-all covered in detail. During the 1990s, the world of the global buyer will become a reality. Long neglected is the American buyer's study of other cultures and the techniques of dealing with suppliers outside our national boundaries. This book goes a long way in filling that knowledge void.
Book Synopsis The Extent of Singapore's Investments Abroad by : Samuel Bassey Okposin
Download or read book The Extent of Singapore's Investments Abroad written by Samuel Bassey Okposin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-01-04 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1999, this volume explores extreme openness of the Singaporean economy to international trade through the role of Foreign Direct Investment in Singapore and Singapore’s investments abroad. It provides much valuable insight to how changes in the economic and policy environments impacted on the individual Singapore-based firms and their decision making processes. The book is particularly strong in the manner in which the firm level material is linked to the overall outflow of capital, the macro-level conditions and the established theoretical explanations for the export of capital. Samuel Bassey Okposin has four aims: to examine the causes of direct investment in Singapore’s economy, to investigate the motivation for Singapore firms to invest abroad, to explain overseas direct investment from Singapore and to examine Singapore’s overseas direct investment strategies, strengths and weaknesses, considering if the current trend of outward direct investment will continue into the new millennium.

Book Synopsis Rubber Manufacturing in Malaysia by : C.C. Goldthorpe
Download or read book Rubber Manufacturing in Malaysia written by C.C. Goldthorpe and published by NUS Press. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Malaysia's rubber manufacturing sector is a prime example of an industry based on a locally produced agricultural resource. In Rubber Manufacturing in Malaysia, C.C. Goldthorpe draws on industrial policy theory along with many years of practical experience to examine the growth of rubber manufacturing in Malaysia. Over the past century, a series of technological discoveries resulted in the worldwide rise of a rubber production industry that manufactures tyres for motor vehicles, engineering components, household gloves and medical products. Goldthorpe argues that the production of rubber goods has played a significant part in the transformation of the country from primary commodity producer to newly industrialized economy, a position he supports by tracing the historical development of rubber-based industrial production and the effects of government policies promoting industrialization. Taken as a whole, the rubber industry is vertically integrated, with locally produced natural and synthetic rubbers used by the rubber manufacturing sector to produce latex products and general rubber goods for export markets.
