Book excerpt: For millennia we desired to believe that there was more, and for millennia someone was sure to tell us that yes, there was... but hopeful people had to take these prophets at their word. Their promise of salvation required a leap of faith. Simply Pay Attention offers an alternative to blind faith: humanity has at last shown that it is ready to explore that oft-imagined more, and there is no faith required to take that first step toward transcendence. Instead, salvation, eternal life, perfect joy, and all those other long-anticipated post-human events lie within reach of any person willing to do two simple things: pay attention, and be nice to each other. There is much to learn about the true creator of our universe, the power of thought energy, the true nature of our immortal souls. Simply Pay Attention opens the door to these, and more. There is so much more to being human than simply making it through each day. Simply Pay Attention shows you where to look for your more... the rest is up to you! 2nd Edition.

Book Synopsis Simple But Not Easy, 2nd edition by : Richard Oldfield
Download or read book Simple But Not Easy, 2nd edition written by Richard Oldfield and published by Harriman House Limited. This book was released on 2021-12-14 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Described by the author as “a slightly autobiographical and heavily biased book about investing”, Simple But Not Easy won fans among both professional and private investors alike when first released in 2007. The theme of the book is that investment is simpler than non-professionals think it is, in that the rudiments can be expressed in ordinary English and picked up by anybody. It is not a science. But investment is also difficult. People on the outside tend to think that anyone on the inside should be able to do better than the market indices. This is not so. Picking the managers who are likely to do better is a challenge. Richard Oldfield begins with a detailed confession of some of his worst mistakes and what they have taught him. He discusses the different types of investment, why fees matter, and the importance of measuring performance properly. He also outlines what to look for (and what not to look for) in an investment manager, when to fire a manager, and how to be a successful client. A cult classic for its candid confessions and sparkling wit, this extended edition of Simple But Not Easy – featuring a new author’s preface and a substantial afterword – remains an indispensable companion for all those interested in the rewarding but enigmatic pursuit of investing.
Book Synopsis A Safe Place for Change, revised 2nd edition by : Hugh Crago
Download or read book A Safe Place for Change, revised 2nd edition written by Hugh Crago and published by Interactive Publications. This book was released on 2019-02-15 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is increasingly recognised that the strength of the bond between counsellor and client is the best indicator of a good outcome for the client. The theoretical model employed by the counsellor matters less than the relationship the counsellor can build with each individual client. Yet first year counselling students continue to be taught about different models of therapy and specialised approaches supposedly needed by clients with different problems. The result is often confusion and uncertainty, and many ‘trained counsellors’ graduate without a solid grasp of how to form an authentic relationship with any client. Unlike most texts, A Safe Place for Change focuses squarely on the therapeutic relationship. Skills are presented in terms of their contribution to the relationship. Theories and models are referred to throughout, but the authors emphasise what the different approaches have in common, rather than the specialised terminology that often makes them seem more different than they actually are. The personal capacities and skills that distinguish a good counsellor or therapist are presented in the same order in which they would appear within the actual therapeutic relationship. The initial chapters teach ‘holding’ and ‘exploring’—skills that are almost automatically required in the first few sessions with a new client. Then follows a chapter that deals with the challenge to the counsellor–client relationship which often appears after the first two sessions, and shows counsellors how they can respond most usefully to that challenge. As the therapeutic relationship continues and deepens, it becomes possible to invite clients to consider how they might be contributing to their own problems—the skill of ‘gentle honesty’ or ‘encountering’. Finally, the authors introduce two different approaches to achieving change-- ‘solving the problem’ via advice, instruction, and homework, and ‘re-parenting the person’—something that is more likely to be crucial in long-term work with clients who present entrenched difficulties in living and relating. Well-written, insightful and accessible, this textbook speaks directly to students of counselling and psychotherapy, recognising their needs and their challenges. The authors’ real-world experience is evident throughout the book, as is their skill in teaching complex concepts in clear language.

This book was released on 2008-04-22 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In terms of simple and complex systems, it is a whole new world out there. At the initial publication of this book, fourteen years ago, the web was in its infancy, DVDs did not exist, cell phones were few and far between, and the information superhighway was just a blip upon the horizon. If you used the terms "social engineering," you were most likely a political scientist, and if you were "phishing" you might be listening to a rock band. The second edition of a bestseller, Human Factors in Simple and Complex Systems provides the necessary understanding of the breadth and depth of human factors issues that influence the design, implementation, and evaluation of products and systems. Emphasizing the close relationship between basic theory and application, the authors delineate a framework for the research process, present an integrated view of the current state of knowledge, and examine how these factors can be applied to system design. The new edition addresses such concepts as situation awareness and highlights topics of interest, with a special focus on computer applications and human-computer interaction. See what’s new in the Second Edition New topics, such as situational awareness, that capture the tremendous changes in human factors and ergonomics Tightly integrates basic research and application, strengthening the link between knowledge and practice Each chapter includes a separate box that discusses a topic of current interest related to human interaction with computers and recent technology Demonstrating a general approach to solving a broad range of system problems, the book provides coverage of the theoretical foundation on which the discipline of human factors is built. Structured around human information processing, it covers the full range of contemporary human factors and ergonomics, then shows you how to apply them.

Book Synopsis Lectures On Quantum Mechanics (Second Edition) - Volume 2: Simple Systems by : Berthold-georg Englert

This book was released on 2024-01-22 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The step to Dirac's more abstract and much more powerful formalism is taken immediately, followed by reviews of quantum kinematics and quantum dynamics. The important standard examples (force-free motion, constant force, harmonic oscillator, hydrogen-like atoms) are then treated in considerable detail, whereby a nonstandard perspective is offered wherever it is deemed feasible and useful.
