Book excerpt: This document is the final report on NAVAIR's Simplified Multimode Airborne Radar Techniques study program. This study was based on some new concepts which Technology Service Corporation evolved during a recent company-funded IR and D program aimed at achieving simplified signal processing techniques for application in multimode airborne radars. With the recent advances in digital technology, many new sophisticated signal processing techniques have been evolved which promise considerable improvement in radar performance. Although these improvements are being realized in current development programs, they involve relatively complex and costly implementations. This study program was based upon the belief that a simplified multimode processor at low cost can be implemented based on the ideas which have emerged from the IR and D program mentioned above. The performance achieved cannot equal that of the more sophisticated techniques currently being developed. However, the study has shown that moderately good performance in all modes can be achieved with a low-cost processor, and that this performance will provide substantially better operational capability than is available in many avionics systems in the current inventory.

This book was released on 1973 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A novel technique for detecting, locating, and tracking moving targets from an airborne radar platform is described and analyzed. The technique uses the generally dissimilar linear doppler frequency modulated signals from moving targets and stationary ground clutter. A matched filter processor is defined and its resolution and ambiguity properties studied as function processor parameters. Sub-clutter visibility of the processor is then determined. Two techniques for digitally implementing the processor are discussed and the computational efficiencies briefly analyzed. Finally, target angular position can be determined using phase monopulse. It is then shown that target velocity--both ground speed and target heading--can be determined from radar observables. (Author).

Much more than a simple introduction, the book is actually a history, reference, tech manual, and textbook rolled into one beautiful illustrated volume, packed with full color photos, drawings, tables and charts, plus knowledgeable, informative text. Twelve new chapters cover all the sophisticated stealth radar techniques. Over 90% of the illustrations are in color as the book describes over a dozen airborne radar systems currently in service, from long-range surveillance to environmental monitoring. The first three chapters can be used as a stand-alone briefing on modern radar for readers who need a quick introduction.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radar-based imaging of aircraft targets is a topic that continues to attract a lot of attention, particularly since these imaging methods have been recognized to be the foundation of any successful all-weather non-cooperative target identification technique. Traditional books in this area look at the topic from a radar engineering point of view. Consequently, the basic issues associated with model error and image interpretation are usually not addressed in any substantive fashion. Moreover, applied mathematicians frequently find it difficult to read the radar engineering literature because it is jargon-laden and device specific, meaning that the skills most applicable to the problem's solution are rarely applied. Enabling an understanding of the subject and its current mathematical research issues, Radar Imaging of Airborne Targets: A Primer for Applied Mathematicians and Physicists presents the issues and techniques associated with radar imaging from a mathematical point of view rather than from an instrumentation perspective. The book concentrates on scattering issues, the inverse scattering problem, and the approximations that are usually made by practical algorithm developers. The author also explains the consequences of these approximations to the resultant radar image and its interpretation, and examines methods for reducing model-based error.

Book excerpt: With the development of advanced sensors in modern science and technology, sensors have already penetrated into such fields as industrial production, space development, ocean exploration, environmental protection, medical diagnosis, biological engineering, and even cultural relic protection. Sensors are the basis of all data acquisition. Almost every modern project, from the exploration of the vast universe and ocean, to the complex engineering systems, is inseparable from a variety of sensors. Sensors convert physical parameters (e.g., temperature, pressure, humidity, speed, etc.) into signals that can be measured electrically. A high-performance sensor with the advantages of high sensitivity, high resolutions, and real-time observation is desirable. In addition, the application of computers and advanced signal processingsignal-processing methods makes sensor management possible. The use of sensing data from multiple sensors has been proven to be an efficient way to improve service experiences in different IOT IoT fields, e.g., intelligent transportation, remote sensing, smart city, and UAVs.

Book excerpt: This book highlights new methods and parametric algorithms for the digital coherent processing of signals in airborne radar systems located on air vehicles. Using the autoregressive (AR) model, it delivers more accurate danger assessments for flight in wind shear and atmospheric turbulence, while also suggesting how they could be implemented. Given its scope, the book is intended for technical experts whose work involves the development, production and operation of airborne radio-electronic systems.
