She ended up in the middle of Iowa, bought a house, and began her life all over again. At the time she purchased the house, she was unaware it had a secret that sent Sandy looking desperately for information to help the entity that was begging for her aid. At the same time, she was terrified that her husband would find her, so she had to keep her old life a secret. That meant two things to keep strictly to herself: her old life and whatever it was that was roaming her house and what it wanted from her.

Book excerpt: Groundbreaking essays by female activists and scholars documenting women’s resistance before, during, and after the Arab Spring Images of women protesting in the Arab Spring, from Tahrir Square to the streets of Tunisia and Syria, have become emblematic of the political upheaval sweeping the Middle East and North Africa. In Women Rising, Rita Stephan and Mounira M. Charrad bring together a provocative group of scholars, activists, artists, and more, highlighting the first-hand experiences of these remarkable women. In this relevant and timely volume, Stephan and Charrad paint a picture of women’s political resistance in sixteen countries before, during, and since the Arab Spring protests first began in 2011. Contributors provide insight into a diverse range of perspectives across the entire movement, focusing on often-marginalized voices, including rural women, housewives, students, and artists. Women Rising offers an on-the-ground understanding of an important twenty-first century movement, telling the story of Arab women’s activism.
Book Synopsis Fashion Writing by : Josephine Collins
Download or read book Fashion Writing written by Josephine Collins and published by Laurence King Publishing. This book was released on 2024-01-04 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fashion writing now enjoys its highest-ever profile as the digital world has multiplied the number of platforms on which it is available. No longer confined to restrictive print schedules or occasional broadcast slots, fashion is now an ever-present content driver. With retailers, brands and designers all in on the act, plus the emergence of citizen fashion coverage from the social media community, the volume of fashion journalism has risen beyond any predictions. While bloggers monetise their musings - indeed, create successful and influential fashion media and fashion product businesses - traditional magazines and newspapers have expanded their multi-channel fashion content in order to secure more touch points with consumers and drive revenue from fashion advertising. Aimed at students on specialist fashion journalism courses or general/lifestyle journalism degrees, this guide will also appeal to untrained writers, including content creators, who want to add a professional approach to their fashion writing.

Book Synopsis The Dream Weaver by : Satyapal Anand
Download or read book The Dream Weaver written by Satyapal Anand and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2011-10-20 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Satyapal Anands poetry is cerebral rather than emotional. It reveals many splendored splashes of color and sound. His poems reveal the essential mythopoeic self present in the poet himself as in all humanity. Again, his personae are all inside his poems. Here and now or there and beyond combine and create word collages. By authenticating effects of the vision and perceptions underlying them, his images give us new ways of seeing the world. There is a kind of double vision involved in it. His is the imagists faculty for seeing a thing at once precisely for itself and, at the same time, as part of a larger phenomenon. Many of his poems are dramatic monologues. In these the speaker does not speak in a vacuum. When he speaks or acts, it reflects the time, place, thought, social conventions, and general circumstances; but it also impinges upon political, philosophical, and religious shades of meaning that transgress the immediacy of the situation. Caroline Greene says that nothing extraordinary has happened in American poetry in the past half a century, and if an Urdu poet of the stature of Satyapal Anand chooses to bring his treasure house to the English speaking word, it is likely to change the entire scenario here. It is precisely because the poet recovers the extracultural, historic-mythological ground of humanity as a whole that the American poets have lost in localizing their poetry.
