Book excerpt: This standard specifies the performance, test and safety requirements for parallel capacitor devices for AC power systems with a nominal voltage above 1 000 V, and provides installation and operation guidelines.  This standard applies to shunt capacitor devices (hereinafter referred to as devices) used to improve the power factor in AC power systems with a nominal voltage of 1 000 V or higher and a frequency of 50 Hz or 60 Hz.  This standard does not apply to the following capacitor devices or capacitor banks: - a capacitor bank used in induction heating devices operating at frequencies from 40 Hz to 24 000 Hz; ——Series capacitor device for power system; ——Parallel capacitors and AC filter capacitor banks for HVDC transmission systems; - a high voltage shunt capacitor device consisting of a self-healing capacitor; - shunt capacitor devices for AC power systems with a nominal voltage of 1 000 V and below; - Power filter device.  Capacitors and accessories in the device, such as insulators, switches, series reactors, discharge coils, arresters, transformers, external fuses and controllers, are to comply with the appropriate standards.  The purpose of this standard is as follows: a) 〖WB〗 elaborates the uniform rules regarding the quota, performance and test of the device; b) 〖DW〗 describes the classification, main wiring and structure of the device; c) 〖DW〗 describes the parameter selection method of the device; d) 〖DW〗 describes the protection mode of the device; e) 〖DW〗 describes the safety rules of the device; f) DW provides installation and operation guidelines.
