This book was released on 1987 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data acquisition modules allow the addition of powerful components to a microcomputer. Modules consisting of the necessary Analog to Digital converters, Digital to Analog converters, and the hardware necessary to support sixteen channels of input data can easily fit inside desk top microcomputers. Fast 32 bit processors, small high volume hard disk drives and large RAM capacities complete the package, enabling a microcomputer to perform complex dynamic signal analysis. One application of the super microcomputer is in the field of underwater explosion shock testing. The combination of the acquisition and analysis capabilities in the same device eliminates the requirement to record the data to an intermediate device prior to analysis. Thus the data can be analyzed within minutes of the completion of the experiment, giving immediate results at the testing site instead of an analysis facility. Another application of the data acquisition equipped microcomputer is in the analysis of the frequency response characteristics of structures. Programming the microcomputer to acquire the data from a vibrating structure in order to determine the dynamic signature is easily done. Discussed in this study is the method utilized to validate a data acquisition equipped microcomputer for such applications. Keywords: Theses.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every so often, a reference book appears that stands apart from all others, destined to become the definitive work in its field. The Vibration and Shock Handbook is just such a reference. From its ambitious scope to its impressive list of contributors, this handbook delivers all of the techniques, tools, instrumentation, and data needed to model, analyze, monitor, modify, and control vibration, shock, noise, and acoustics. Providing convenient, thorough, up-to-date, and authoritative coverage, the editor summarizes important and complex concepts and results into “snapshot” windows to make quick access to this critical information even easier. The Handbook’s nine sections encompass: fundamentals and analytical techniques; computer techniques, tools, and signal analysis; shock and vibration methodologies; instrumentation and testing; vibration suppression, damping, and control; monitoring and diagnosis; seismic vibration and related regulatory issues; system design, application, and control implementation; and acoustics and noise suppression. The book also features an extensive glossary and convenient cross-referencing, plus references at the end of each chapter. Brimming with illustrations, equations, examples, and case studies, the Vibration and Shock Handbook is the most extensive, practical, and comprehensive reference in the field. It is a must-have for anyone, beginner or expert, who is serious about investigating and controlling vibration and acoustics.

This book was released on 2010-01-05 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mechanical Vibration and Shock Analysis, Second Edition Volume 2: Mechanical Shock This volume considers the shock response spectrum, its various definitions, its properties, and the assumptions involved in its calculation. In developing the practical application of these concepts, the shock shapes or profiles most often used in test facilities are presented, together with their characteristics and indications of how to establish test configurations comparable with those of the real-world, measured environment. Following this analysis there is a case study of how to meet these specifications using standard laboratory equipment, shock machines, electrodynamic exciters driven by a time signal or a response spectrum. Discussion of the limitations, advantages and disadvantages of each method is presented. The Mechanical Vibration and Shock Analysis five-volume series has been written with both the professional engineer and the academic in mind. Christian Lalanne explores every aspect of vibration and shock, two fundamental and extremely significant areas of mechanical engineering, from both a theoretical and practical point of view. The five volumes cover all the necessary issues in this area of mechanical engineering. The theoretical analyses are placed in the context of both the real world and the laboratory, which is essential for the development of specifications.

Book excerpt: Mechanical Vibration and Shock Analysis, Second Edition Volume 3: Random Vibration The vast majority of vibrations encountered in a real-world environment are random in nature. Such vibrations are intrinsically complicated, but this volume describes a process enabling the simplification of the analysis required, and the analysis of the signal in the frequency domain. Power spectrum density is also defined, with the requisite precautions to be taken in its calculation described together with the processes (windowing, overlapping) necessary for improved results. A further complementary method, the analysis of statistical properties of the time signal, is described. This enables the distribution law of the maxima of a random Gaussian signal to be determined and simplifies calculation of fatigue damage to be made by the avoidance of the direct counting of peaks.
