This book was released on 1965 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comparison is made between four methods of determining the heave and pitch responses of a ship in waves. Full scale data were obtained from measurements in normal merchant service conditions on board the Belgian cargo liner M.V. JORDAENS. Model tests were carried out on a 1/100 scale model in regular and irregular waves in the same conditions as those encountered at sea. Theoretical computations were made using Linear Strip Theory with Grim's coefficients. Wave measurements at sea were obtained with a Tucker shipborne wave recorder. An attempt was made to reproduce the same irregular pattern in the model tank. A comparison of bending moments measured on the ship and computed by strip theory is also presented. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied Naval Architecture is intended for undergraduate students of many of the disciplines in maritime affairs, including marine engineering, marine transportation, nautical science, shipbuilding or ship production (shipyard apprentice schools), marine electrical engineering, meteorology, and oceanography. It could be used as an introduction to naval architecture for technical personnel of all types already employed in shipyards, for licensed officers as a general reference, and preparation for license upgrading examinations. It describes in detail what naval architects do, and how they do it, to all students and practitioners involved in the business of merchant ships and shipping, except for professional naval architects themselves. Students preparing for a degree in naval architecture would find the book useful as an introduction to their profession.

Book Synopsis Ship Dynamics for Performance Based Design and Risk Averse Operations by : Spyros Hirdaris
Download or read book Ship Dynamics for Performance Based Design and Risk Averse Operations written by Spyros Hirdaris and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-04-07 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than a century and half ago, William Froude and his son Robert [1,2] conducted the first scientifically designed towing tank experiments using scaled ship models traveling in calm water or waves. Since then, advances in mathematics and technology have led to the development of various methods for the assessment of the dynamic behavior of ships. Yet, as we enter the 2nd decade of the 21st century the advent of goal-based regulations and the emergence of safe and sustainable shipping standards still confront our ability to understand the fundamentals and assure absolute ship safety in design and operations. To instigate renewed interest in the well-rehearsed subject of ship dynamics this Special Issue presents a collection of 12 high-quality research contributions with a focus on the prediction and analysis of the dynamic behavior of ships in a stochastic environment. The papers presented are co-authored by leading subject matter experts from Europe, the Far East, and the USA. These papers will be of interest to academics, practitioners, and regulators involved in the progression of ship science, technical services, and safety standards.
