Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I’ve given my life to the club. And now, I might be the reason an empire falls. Finn “Shamrock” Adair A year of my life—stolen. The number of once-in-a-lifetime moments the Cartel took from me is immeasurable. I missed the birth of my children, their first milestones, their first words. I wasn’t here when two of my brothers claimed ol’ ladies. I missed most of my sister-in-law’s pregnancy and wasn’t there to help my sister through her miscarriage. Most of all, I wasn’t here to lay my mother to rest. Missing all those things, getting my life back, being the man they needed for a year, but I couldn’t be, is all that should matter to me. That should be my only focus now that I’m home and with my club again. But the Cartel destroyed that man that once ran this club. Used as a guinea pig to test their newest drugs, the only thing I want to do, the only thing I can seem to focus on, is getting high again. A year in a constant state of being out of my mind has left me as little more than a junkie. I want to do the right thing, but I can’t. The demons unleashed in me are too strong, have too great a hold now. My club isn’t going to give up, though, and for once, their greatest adversary isn’t an outside force—it’s me. I held this club together for so long, waited a lifetime to get my woman back, and now? I just might be the very reason it all crumbles to the ground.

Finn "Shamrock" Adair Fifteen years ago, I became the President of the Emerald Isle MC . . . at the ripe age of twenty-two. It wasn't supposed to go down like that, though. Back then, I was young, enjoying life, and in love with the girl of my dreams. Faylinn O'Shea wasn't just any girl. She was my Vice President's daughter, my sister's best friend, and a club princess— but she was mine. And our rival club, the Devil's Den MC, did the only thing they could to hurt us— they took my Faylinn. I've run the club for the last fifteen years and spent every night searching for her. But, even though her brothers have accepted the probability of her death— I can't. So, I'll keep searching until I bring her home, dead or alive. I won't stop until we have a reunion or a funeral. My determination pays off, but the reunion isn't as epic as I'd hoped. Fifteen years as a prisoner was bound to change her, and Faylinn isn't the sweet, little love of my life anymore. Of course, she's still the love of my life. I just don't know if I'm still hers. I know one thing, though, I'm going to get revenge for her— for all the time she lost, and I'll become a savage worse than her captors to make sure they pay for what they did to my woman.

He found her, and she won’t get away a second time. -Renegade- One woman, and three years without her, is all it took for me to go from Jekyll to Hyde. Three years ago, we busted another club for kidnapping and raping girls. One of those girls was my President’s cousin. Another was Raylynn. Blindfolded, tied down, and beaten until there was hardly anything left, I freed her and wrapped her in my arms, knowing damn well she’d captured me, and I never wanted to let her go. Then, she disappeared . . . and took everything good about me with her. The road of self-destruction has been a chaotic one, and my President finally hit his breaking point with me. What’s supposed to be a relaxing vacation to the North Carolina coast ends up being me coming face-to-face with the beautiful redhead that’s haunted both my fantasies and nightmares for all these years. Raylynn has secrets of her own, but I’m not giving her a chance to run this time. She’s gonna face the music whether she likes it or not because I need her as my ol’ lady. It doesn’t matter what she’s been through— we’re perfect together. She’d see it if she’d just give us a chance. Raylynn thinks her darkness makes her unworthy, but I’m going to prove that nothing could be farther from the truth. Our demons aren’t our downfall. Together— they’re the perfect dance partners.

Book excerpt: Even if she never remembers us, I’ll never stop loving her. Dermot "Timber" O'Shea Caelan Finnigan is mine. Just because she's technically a clubwhore and I haven't claimed her as my ol' lady doesn't change a thing. She's been mine since she was twenty-three— she just didn't realize it. Even though I swore I'd never take an ol' lady, things are changing. I'm changing. Watching my sister getting married, my older brother having a baby— I want all that. And I don't want it with anyone but Caelan. It's taken me years to buck up the courage to tell her, and I do . . . at my sister's wedding. And then my past and actions as an Enforcer come back to bite me in the ass, taking away the only thing that means a damn— her. One gunshot changes everything. Just because they didn't kill Caelan doesn't mean they didn't take her from me. After waking from a coma, she has no idea who she is . . . she doesn't know who I am. She remembers nothing about us. Not my love for her, not our history, not how tightly she holds my soul in the palm of her hand. I'm going to find the shooter, and then I'm going to bathe in their blood . . . but all that won't ensure that Caelan ends up mine. No. Now, I also have to make her fall in love with me all over again.

Book excerpt: With the government that ruled over them arbitrary and capricious, the stage was set for a new kind of trouble. While none could yet imagine its size or brutality, its symbol would come in the form of a fiery cross. Born of men in hoods and robes, known by many names, it would be the Klan. Founded by a group of Confederate veterans in a small town in Tennessee soon after the succession of hostilities, their numbers would swell until they became a shadow government. Although subversive, with tentacles extending into the nation's capitol, it would influence politics on both the local and federal level well beyond the middle of the next century. While it could be argued that due to conditions imposed upon the South immediately after the war, such an organization was bound to emerge, it is also true that it grew beyond anyone's expectations. Although the organization did much to level the playing field in the post-war years, with its darker side soon overshadowing any good it might do, the rest is history.

Book Synopsis The Shamrock and the Cross by : Eileen P. Sullivan
Download or read book The Shamrock and the Cross written by Eileen P. Sullivan and published by University of Notre Dame Pess. This book was released on 2016-03-15 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Shamrock and the Cross: Irish American Novelists Shape American Catholicism, Eileen P. Sullivan traces changes in nineteenth-century American Catholic culture through a study of Catholic popular literature. Analyzing more than thirty novels spanning the period from the 1830s to the 1870s, Sullivan elucidates the ways in which Irish immigration, which transformed the American Catholic population and its institutions, also changed what it meant to be a Catholic in America. In the 1830s and 1840s, most Catholic fiction was written by American-born converts from Protestant denominations; after 1850, most was written by Irish immigrants or their children, who created characters and plots that mirrored immigrants’ lives. The post-1850 novelists portrayed Catholics as a community of people bound together by shared ethnicity, ritual, and loyalty to their priests rather than by shared theological or moral beliefs. Their novels focused on poor and working-class characters; the reasons they left their homeland; how they fared in the American job market; and where they stood on issues such as slavery, abolition, and women’s rights. In developing their plots, these later novelists took positions on capitalism and on race and gender, providing the first alternative to the reigning domestic ideal of women. Far more conscious of American anti-Catholicism than the earlier Catholic novelists, they stressed the dangers of assimilation and the importance of separate institutions supporting a separate culture. Given the influence of the Irish in church institutions, the type of Catholicism they favored became the gold standard for all American Catholics, shaping their consciousness until well into the next century.
