Book Synopsis Dynamics of Evolutionary Equations by : George R. Sell
Download or read book Dynamics of Evolutionary Equations written by George R. Sell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-01-02 with total page 692 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory and applications of infinite dimensional dynamical systems have attracted the attention of scientists for quite some time. Dynamical issues arise in equations that attempt to model phenomena that change with time. The infi nite dimensional aspects occur when forces that describe the motion depend on spatial variables, or on the history of the motion. In the case of spatially depen dent problems, the model equations are generally partial differential equations, and problems that depend on the past give rise to differential-delay equations. Because the nonlinearities occurring in thse equations need not be small, one needs good dynamical theories to understand the longtime behavior of solutions. Our basic objective in writing this book is to prepare an entree for scholars who are beginning their journey into the world of dynamical systems, especially in infinite dimensional spaces. In order to accomplish this, we start with the key concepts of a semiflow and a flow. As is well known, the basic elements of dynamical systems, such as the theory of attractors and other invariant sets, have their origins here.

Book Synopsis The Mathematics of Diffusion by : Wei-Ming Ni
Download or read book The Mathematics of Diffusion written by Wei-Ming Ni and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diffusion has been used extensively in many scientific disciplines to model a wide variety of phenomena. The Mathematics of Diffusion focuses on the qualitative properties of solutions to nonlinear elliptic and parabolic equations and systems in connection with domain geometry, various boundary conditions, the mechanism of different diffusion rates, and the interaction between diffusion and spatial heterogeneity. The book systematically explores the interplay between different diffusion rates from the viewpoint of pattern formation, particularly Turing's diffusion-driven instability in both homogeneous and heterogeneous environments, and the roles of random diffusion, directed movements, and spatial heterogeneity in the classical Lotka-Volterra competition systems. Interspersed throughout the book are many simple, fundamental, and important open problems for readers to investigate.
Book Synopsis Dynamical Systems by : Ludwig Arnold
Download or read book Dynamical Systems written by Ludwig Arnold and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the lecture notes written by the four principal speakers at the C.I.M.E. session on Dynamical Systems held at Montecatini, Italy in June 1994. The goal of the session was to illustrate how methods of dynamical systems can be applied to the study of ordinary and partial differential equations. Topics in random differential equations, singular perturbations, the Conley index theory, and non-linear PDEs were discussed. Readers interested in asymptotic behavior of solutions of ODEs and PDEs and familiar with basic notions of dynamical systems will wish to consult this text.
Book Synopsis Asymptotic Behavior of Dissipative Systems by : Jack K. Hale
Download or read book Asymptotic Behavior of Dissipative Systems written by Jack K. Hale and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2010-01-04 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph reports the advances that have been made in the area by the author and many other mathematicians; it is an important source of ideas for the researchers interested in the subject. --Zentralblatt MATH Although advanced, this book is a very good introduction to the subject, and the reading of the abstract part, which is elegant, is pleasant. ... this monograph will be of valuable interest for those who aim to learn in the very rapidly growing subject of infinite-dimensional dissipative dynamical systems. --Mathematical Reviews This book is directed at researchers in nonlinear ordinary and partial differential equations and at those who apply these topics to other fields of science. About one third of the book focuses on the existence and properties of the flow on the global attractor for a discrete or continuous dynamical system. The author presents a detailed discussion of abstract properties and examples of asymptotically smooth maps and semigroups. He also covers some of the continuity properties of the global attractor under perturbation, its capacity and Hausdorff dimension, and the stability of the flow on the global attractor under perturbation. The remainder of the book deals with particular equations occurring in applications and especially emphasizes delay equations, reaction-diffusion equations, and the damped wave equations. In each of the examples presented, the author shows how to verify the existence of a global attractor, and, for several examples, he discusses some properties of the flow on the global attractor.

Book Synopsis Complexity and Evolution of Dissipative Systems by : Sergey Vakulenko
Download or read book Complexity and Evolution of Dissipative Systems written by Sergey Vakulenko and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the dynamic complexity of neural, genetic networks, and reaction diffusion systems. The author shows that all robust attractors can be realized in dynamics of such systems. In particular, a positive solution of the Ruelle-Takens hypothesis for on chaos existence for large class of reaction-diffusion systems is given. The book considers viability problems for such systems - viability under extreme random perturbations - and discusses an interesting hypothesis of M. Gromov and A. Carbone on biological evolution. There appears a connection with the Kolmogorov complexity theory. As applications, transcription-factors-microRNA networks are considered, patterning in biology, a new approach to estimate the computational power of neural and genetic networks, social and economical networks, and a connection with the hard combinatorial problems.
