Book excerpt: Seven Letters To Heaven - Award-Winning Finalist in the " Spirituality: Inspirational" category - The 2012 International Book Awards and USA "Best Books 2011" Awards. Author Felicita “Terry” Robinson found herself at a spiritual crossroads as she was faced with the daunting task of uprooting herself and her family from their native Jamaica. For her, writing her prayers down gave her a sense of solace and the strength to accomplish her goals. In her new book, Seven Letters to Heaven – A True Story of Faith and Answered Prayers (published by iUniverse), Robinson shares with readers seven of 21 personal letters of prayer she wrote as a way of communicating to God to seek His help with the small day-to-day problems she was experiencing. After looking back on her letters, she realized that not only were her prayers answered, her faith was also strengthened, leading her to wanting to share her experience with others. “I have always felt that there was something missing that I needed to do spiritually other than being a good Christian,” said Robinson. “I realized that the actual publishing of my personal letters was the missing piece that I needed, not only to help others, but in order to help me grow spiritually.” Taking place during the last four months Robinson was in Jamaica prior to relocating to the U.S., Seven Letters to Heaven is about the trials and tribulations that came as a result of leaving home to start a new life, and the problems inherent with moving from one country to another. The book focuses on Robinson’s written “letters of prayers” to God, sharing her day-to-day problems as well as poems and biblical quotations, and finding peace through her powerful faith. The story behind Seven Letters to Heaven is a simple one; however the message is very powerful. This book will take readers on a walk of faith that shows God can truly become a real friend to anyone and most importantly, He does answer prayers, in His own way, in His own time and at His own will. Review Comment by Rev. Basil Aguzie, MSP follows: "Faith, hope and courage are virtues every Christian on a spiritual journey with God must have. “Seven Letters to Heaven” confirms this. This book is not just about communicating with God through letter writing but also, it is a spiritual process of seeking God in one’s situation and recognizing His hands at work in one’s life; firstly in the means by which God answers one’s prayers, and secondly the times when He actually does so. What is remarkable about this book is that it not only serves as a guide, but also an easy to read spiritual companion. This is why I would recommend it to anyone searching for a deeper intimacy with God."

Book excerpt: Seven Letters to Seven Churches is the second volume in Brian McCallum's Breaking the Bread of Revelation series. In it he focuses on the brief letters recorded in Revelation chapters 2 and 3. These two chapters of Revelation provide a picture of Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church, ministering to His Body today! Author Brian McCallum says, "My heart's desire is that pastors and teachers everywhere in Christendom will preach and teach these truths to their local congregations, thus emphasizing by the anointing of the Holy Spirit things which are essential to the Church's overcoming in our day and fulfilling her Great Commission." Although written to first-century Christians, the letters commend, warn, and encourage all overcomers--believers who are living and growing in Christ and obeying His commands. Questions addressed include: What is a Christian's first love, and how can it be maintained? What sin, when tolerated, weakens the Church the most? How can we live so the Lord has no need to rebuke us? God doesn't want us to wait until we get to Heaven to be overcomers. He has made it possible for us to live now in the privileges He gives us.

Book excerpt: Why were the only letters Jesus Himself ever sent addressed to a circuit of churches in the Southwest corner of what is now called Turkey? And why did Satan choose to locate his permanent residence on earth in the very same district? The answer is that both time and place were critical for the survival of the body of Christ in the face of pagan religion and worldly culture. If the saints could 'overcome' here, they would be able to do so in all places and through all times. The seven letters, therefore, have a permanent message, as well as a particularly contemporary application. The world is still very much with us, seeking to 'overcome' the church by external persecution or internal corruption. But the risen, ascended, returning Lord still walks among His churches, encouraging with promised rewards and warning of eternal loss. The author takes the reader through a verse of these timeless and powerful letters found in Revelation chapters 2-3.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Chapter 1 Paula Gooder discusses the problems of interpreting this text and looks at the major debates of its past interpreters. The most popular modern approach is to compare it with other texts of ascent in the Judaeo-Christian tradition, yet even a brief examination of these texts indicate that differences are present. In the remainder of the book Gooder evaluates the extent and significance of these differences. Part One consists of a detailed consideration of a range of texts which superficially seem closest to 2 Corinthians 12. Chapter 2 presents a history of scholarship on heavenly ascent. Chapters 3 to 8 each examine a text of ascent from a different period and background in the Judaeo-Christian tradition. Chapter 9 draws out the points of similarity between these texts. Part Two considers the text of 2 Corinthians 12:1-10 in the light of the findings of Part One. In the detailed examination of the Pauline ascent in chapter 10, the extent of the differences between this text and the texts examined in Part One becomes clear. Chapter 11 proposes a new interpretation of the account of ascent, arguing that it reports a failed ascent into heaven. The chapter shows that this interpretation makes sense not only of 2 Corinthians 12:1-10 itself but also of chapters 10-13 which surround it. The account is one more example of weakness from the apostle in which he proves that weakness, not strength, is the sign of a true apostle.
