This book was released on 2010-07 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpted by permission from the Proceedings of the Vermont Historical Society, this unusual work lists the names of nearly 6,000 Revolutionary soldiers buried in Vermont, many of the soldiers having emigrated there from other states during the years immediately following the Revolution. The names were gathered from a variety of sources, but the largest number by far was extracted from a rare list of Vermont Revolutionary pensioners, a list embracing invalid pensioners, pensioners under the act of March 18, 1818, and pensioners under the act of June 7, 1832. Supplementing the lists is a section devoted to anecdotes and incidents of some of the Vermont soldiers in the various campaigns. The soldiers are listed alphabetically by county or town of interment.

Book excerpt: I saved the world... but for me it’s a death sentence. I'm a dragon shifter—the biggest, baddest supernatural in the world—so absorbing the magic of the spell web into my body seemed like a good idea. It solved all our problems, and the humans went back to being oblivious of the magic that exist under their noses. Except it didn't quite work like that. Turns out I'm not as strong as I thought I was. If the government or the underworld criminals don't get me first, the magic of the spell web is gonna destroy me, piece by piece. As if that isn't enough to deal with, there's a new threat in town... a plague of demons that could wipe out the supernatural and human races combined. I'm back to saving the world. Except this time, I might not make it to the end. If you love Patricia Briggs's outcast shifter Mercy Thompson or Shannon Mayer's tracker Rylee Adamson... you'll want to check out Trudi Jaye's kick-butt dragon shifter, Mei Walker. Book excerpt: Can a one-handed cowboy and an overzealous social worker bridge the gap between their worlds? Former Sergeant Seth Black, his right hand missing and his ranching dream demolished, has holed up in a remote cabin to avoid his hovering brothers. He agrees to let Tank, an army buddy who’s also an amputee, stay for a while. Tank’s sister unexpectedly comes with him, though, and while she may be gorgeous, she’s as over-helpful as his family. Social worker Riley Callahan loves helping children and families but got suspended for following an impulse. While she waits for a final decision, she’s making sure her brother takes time to sort out his own problems...and trying not to get involved with the cowboy they’re staying with. But Seth is handsome, hurting, and obviously needs her help. Seth begins to accept his situation, but his dreams are gone. Riley wants to help him adjust to his new abilities, but she doesn’t know where she’ll be in a month. Can a one-handed non-cowboy and a city social worker figure out what God wants them to do? Each Black Rock Ranch romance is a stand-alone story with its own HEA, but the family saga is best enjoyed in order: 1. Cherished by the Rancher (Adam & Maddy 2. Resisting the Rancher (Caleb & Jo) 2.5 Romancing the Rancher (Jesse & Sam) 3. Falling for the Rancher (Micah & Cassie) 4. Rescuing the Rancher (Seth & Riley)

Book excerpt: While classroom learning is suited for conveying basic information to large numbers of people, Hoag (Engine Research Center, U. of Wisconsin at Madison) argues that continuing education for engineers most often requires small groups of people to rapidly develop proficiencies. He discusses the roles of upper management, direct supervisors, and individual engineers in his proposed model for continuing education in organizations. After outlining the model, he discusses applications related to rotational programs, organizational assessment, and program evaluation. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in a fully revised and updated edition, this history of modern Korea explores the social, economic, and political issues it has faced since being catapulted into the wider world at the end of the nineteenth century. Placing this formerly insular society in a global context, Michael J. Seth describes how this ancient, culturally and ethnically homogeneous society first fell victim to Japanese imperialist expansionism, and then was arbitrarily divided in half after World War II. Seth traces the postwar paths of the two Koreas—with different political and social systems and different geopolitical orientations—as they evolved into sharply contrasting societies. South Korea, after an unpromising start, became one of the few postcolonial developing states to enter the ranks of the first world, with a globally competitive economy, a democratic political system, and a cosmopolitan and dynamic culture. By contrast, North Korea became one of the world's most totalitarian and isolated societies, a nuclear power with an impoverished and famine-stricken population. Considering the radically different and historically unprecedented trajectories of the two Koreas, Seth assesses the insights they offer for understanding not only modern Korea but the broader perspective of world history. All readers looking for a balanced, knowledgeable history will be richly rewarded with this clear and cogent book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in a fully revised and updated edition, this comprehensive book surveys Korean history from Neolithic times to the present. Michael J. Seth explores the origins and development of Korean society, politics, and still little-known cultural heritage from their inception to the two Korean states of today. Telling the remarkable story of the origins and evolution of a society that borrowed and adopted from abroad, Seth describes how various tribal peoples in the peninsula came together to form one of the world’s most distinctive communities. He shows how this ancient, culturally and ethnically homogeneous society was wrenched into the world of late-nineteenth-century imperialism, fell victim to Japanese expansionism, and then became arbitrarily divided into two opposed halves, North and South, after World War II. Tracing the seven decades since 1945, the book explains how the two Koreas, with their deeply different political and social systems and geopolitical orientations, evolved into sharply contrasting societies. South Korea, after an unpromising start, became one of the few postcolonial developing states to enter the ranks of the first world, with a globally competitive economy, a democratic political system, and a cosmopolitan and dynamic culture. North Korea, by contrast, became one of the world’s most totalitarian and isolated societies, a nuclear power with an impoverished and famine-stricken population. Seth describes and analyzes the radically different and historically unprecedented trajectories of the two Koreas, formerly one tight-knit society. Throughout, he adds a rare dimension by placing Korean history into broader global perspective. All readers looking for a balanced, knowledgeable history will be richly rewarded with this clear and concise book.
