This is an OCR edition with typos. Excerpt from book: m The Translation of the Church? An Exposition of i Thessalonians 4:13-18 THE theme of this chapter, which was briefly referred to in the preceding one, furnishes one of the most comforting passages in the New Testament. Paul begins to treat of it at about the thirteenth verse. He was the founder of the church at Thessalonica, and when there had laid great emphasis upon the second coming of Christ in His glory, and upon the fact that they who were Christ's would be partakers of that glory when He came. He was expecting the second coming of Christ in his day. Shall we say that because He did not come therefore his words referring thereto are not inspired ? Certainly not. The inspiration of Scripture terminates not on the thoughts of the writers, but on the words. Paul was not inspired as to what he thought on subjects day after day, but as to what he wrote as holy Scripture. Paul, reading the words of the Old Testament prophets, and judging by revelations he personally may have received, was led to believe that Christ might come in his day. And the true Church in all the centuries has been in the same attitude withreference to Christ's coming, expecting Him any day. It seems to be the purpose of God to keep each generation of Christians in this attitude of expectancy as a stimulant to their hope. These at Thessalonica, then, were expecting Christ to come in their day. But Paul had left them now, and as weeks and months had elapsed some of their number had died, and those who were left behind were sorrowing, not because they feared that their dead were lost, not because they questioned the immortality of the soul, or even the resurrection of the body, but because they thought that they who would be alive and remaining on the earth when the Lord came would have some adv...

VII THE CONVERSION AND RESTORATION OF ISRAEL We begin now to look at the blessed things which are connected with the manifestation of Jehovah, our Lord Jesus Christ. From the preceding chapters we have learned that His appearing will be in the day, which is called " the day of the Lord," that this day will come at the end of the great tribulation, during which the nations form ungodly alliances to oppose God and His Anointed, and that Jehovah's manifestation will bring their judgment. But while that day is a day of wrath, it is also a day in which Jehovah will show mercy and fulfil all that which He spoke through the mouth of His holy prophets. A new age will begin, the age long foretold, when righteousness and peace kiss each other, when the nations learn war no more, and the knowledge of the glory of the Lord will cover the earth as the waters cover the deep. We shall look first of all to the Harmony of all Prophecy in predicting the conversion and restoration of Israel. This topic is one of the most prominent in the prophetic Word. We find it quite a task in the limited space we have to condense all in such a way that the reader will get the correct, scriptural view of it, and to show at the same time how the Spirit of God bears witness to this great future of Israel. It may not be altogether out of place to say whom we mean by Israel. There is so much wrong teaching about, that one is forced to refer almost constantly to the most simple foundation truths. The fact is that the most popular interpretation of the Bible makes Israel mean the church. Thus it has come to pass that all these wonderful prophecies which speak of a restoration of Israel and the blessings in store for them have been claimed to mean the "spiritual Israel," the...

Great and splendid titles, when improperly applied, are rather a satire and insult upoj the persons, than any honor or commendation. Seleucus Ceraunus was indeed stirred up, and assembled a multitude of great forces, in order to recover his father's dominions: but being destitute of money, and unable to keep his army in obedience, he was poisoned by two of his generals, after an inglorious reign of two or three years. Upon his decease, his brother, Antiochus Magnus was proclaimed king, who was more deserving of the title of great, than Seleucus was of that of the thunderer. The prophet's expression is very remarkable, that his sons shouTd be stirred up and assemble a multitude of great forces; but then the number is changed, and only one should certainly come, and overflow, and pass through. Accordingly, Antiochus came with a great army, retook Seleucia, and, by the means of Theodotus the. iEtolian, recovered Syria, making himself master of some places by treaty, and of others by force of arms. Then, after a truce, wherein both sides treated of peace but prepared for war, Antiochus returned, and overcame in battle Nicolaus, the Egyptian general, and had thoughts of invading Egypt itself. The king of Egypt at that time was Ptolemy Philopater, who was advanced to the crown upon the death of his father Euergetes, not long after Antiochus Magnus succeeded his brother in thethrone of Syria. This Ptolemy was a most luxurious and vicious prince, but was roused at length by the near approach of danger. Verse 11: " And the king of the south shall be moved with choler, and shall come forth and fight with him, even with the Icing of the north; and he shall set forth a great multitude, but the multitude shall he given into his...

Book excerpt: The Reformation did not happen instantaneously; it was something God patiently arranged over a number of years. As you read this book, you will learn how the Lord used some people to plant the seeds of church reform long before October 31, 1517, when Martin Luther published his ninety-five theses. Luther's story is well-known; we trust you will find it interesting and instructive to read about him and about forty others (John Knox, Peter Martyr Vermigli, Zacharias Ursinus, Willem Teellinck, etc.) who contributed to the Reformation - some well known and others not so - most of whom are Reformation heroes. To provide a more full picture of the many sided Reformation, chapters are also included on the Anabaptist and Counter Reformation movements. The book concludes with a brief summary of the influence of the Reformation in different areas of life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ""The Bible Home Instructor"" is a classic Bible study guide, originally published in 1920. It is a compilation of Bible testimony on a multitude of Christian subjects. Each of the many biblical topics encapsulates one or more doctrinal truths, as understood and explained by the original author, Andrew N. Dugger. In 1995, I assisted ministerial author, Richard C. Nickels, in creating an updated edition of this popular Bible study guide. For all of us who participated in this project, it was a work of love. That printed version is still being sold, and oftentimes at exorbitant prices. Therefore, I have decided to publish this updated edition and sell it for the cost of printing. I also offer a free, text-only PDF through my online bookstore at http: //www.lulu.com/spotlight/KerryBarger . The PDF can be copied and shared freely among any number of people. This book can shed the precious light of God's truth into your life and the lives of all who take its teachings to heart.
