Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Hypersexuality of Race, Celine Parreñas Shimizu urges a shift in thinking about sexualized depictions of Asian/American women in film, video, and theatrical productions. Shimizu advocates moving beyond denunciations of sexualized representations of Asian/American women as necessarily demeaning or negative. Arguing for a more nuanced approach to the mysterious mix of pleasure, pain, and power in performances of sexuality, she advances a theory of “productive perversity,” a theory which allows Asian/American women—and by extension other women of color—to lay claim to their own sexuality and desires as actors, producers, critics, and spectators. Shimizu combines theoretical and textual analysis and interviews with artists involved in various productions. She complicates understandings of the controversial portrayals of Asian female sexuality in the popular Broadway musical Miss Saigon by drawing on ethnographic research and interviews with some of the actresses in it. She looks at how three Hollywood Asian/American femme fatales—Anna May Wong, Nancy Kwan, and Lucy Liu—negotiate representations of their sexuality; analyzes 1920s and 1930s stag films in which white women perform as sexualized Asian characters; and considers Asian/American women’s performances in films ranging from the stag pornography of the 1940s to the Internet and video porn of the 1990s. She also reflects on two documentaries depicting Southeast Asian prostitutes and sex tourism, The Good Woman of Bangkok and 101 Asian Debutantes. In her examination of films and videos made by Asian/American feminists, Shimizu describes how female characters in their works reject normative definitions of race, gender, and sexuality, thereby expanding our definitions of racialized sexualities in representation.

An international air hostess for American Airlines, she has seen it all from her base at New York City, but nothing in her career could have possibly prepared her for what awaits on her next visit to Rome. Leonardo, her father, a handsome and vivacious Catholic priest, adores his beautiful daughter. He has a fun surprise for her: a bubble-gum-pink Mini Cooper convertible. But that is not the most intriguing surprise of the visit. At his office in Vatican City, he introduces her to Father Alejandro Sebastian De Mateo, his private secretary. He is everything she's ever desired in a man-tall with long, blond hair and the most intensely green eyes she's ever seen. Her thoughts immediately turn to dark, decadent, and delicious sin when she looks at him. He is beautiful beyond imagination, charming, sexy, special, and utterly unavailable. Will their steamy romance have a happy Hollywood ending-or will reality trump the fantasy?

A fine screen presence and a powerful figure in London's underworld, his film-star looks, charm and talent brought him worldwide exposure. His story reads like the plot of a movie which Big John himself might have landed a part in. Usually typecast in tough-guy roles, his on-screen persona was chillingly close to the real-life one. Big John's nickname came from his status as a legendary sexual performer, so it was no surprise that his encounters with stunning women, most famously Princess Margaret, led to numerous high profile relationships. But most of all, Big John was a warm-hearted, complex man, utterly devoted to those who have him respect and always prepared to be the last line of defence to those closest to him. He emerged from a poor, working class London childhood and fraternised with the Krays and the Richardsons, but eventually turned his back on crime to play major parts in films such as Mick Jagger's Performance, "The Who's Quadrophenia" and Michael Caine's "Get Carter". This is the a truly moving book, as powerful as The Guv'nor, about a man who was many different things to many people, but never anything but himself.

The collection, at last, of these seminal essays into a single volume is welcome news indeed for the generation of scholars who learned from them and can now more easily send their own students to them. . . . Their importance as documents of the discovery of Spenser, and the Spenserian mode, in the 1960s is given new prominence, moreover, by Berger's recent essays here on the 'metapastoralism' of The Shepheardes Calendar. In them, this New Critic comes home again to Spenser, recognizing the value of recent critical trends but arguing passionately for the centrality of the close reading of text. The result is a powerful case for reconciliation and consolidation of methods that have dominated literary study over the second half of this century."--Donald Cheney, co-editor of The Spenser Encyclopedia

The first six full length books in the Serena Wilcox Mysteries: Angels Mark, Covert Coffee, Bluebird Flown, Project Scarecrow, Ruby Red, and Project Scarecrow are now available in one volume. This series is an unusual set of futuristic Christian mystery and suspense thrillers that are provocative and controversial. The writing style improves with each book and the pacing becomes faster and faster. If you enjoy clean reads with plot twists that you can't see coming, you'll be hooked on these books. The future of the nation depends on former private detective Serena Wilcox and her unlikely crew. The Serena Wilcox books are quirky, suspenseful and unpredictable thrillers, with many plot twists and creative story lines about corrupt government and political nastiness. These are unusual books that don't fit neatly into any preconceived notion of what a mystery book should be. The Serena Six inspire independent thinking about contemporary themes surrounding politics, religion, science, and technology, and are suitable for YA through adult readers. Dry humor is sprinkled throughout the books, as well as plenty of geek candy and farce. In "Angels Mark", Serena Wilcox and her family have destroyed their old home and faked their deaths to go off the grid under new identities, after obtaining insider information about a threat to the United States. The threat results in a geographically divided America, with two governing presidents: John Williams and Japanese-American Ann Kinji. Conspiracy, greed and a lust for power are at the root of this plot-twisting thriller about corrupt American government. Angels Mark features revolting and oddball characters, dry humor, and shocking dialog and events. Books 4-6 beginning with Project Scarecrow take on an added dimension of time travel as an aid to Serena's investigations. Unusual plots, vivid characters, suspense, and corruption are at the heart of all six books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PREVIEW Ditched by a fiance. Betrayed by a friend. A desire for revenge. One life-changing weekend. *** He’d broken her heart once. Would she give him a chance to break it again? “What do you want Aaron?” Farrah asked. “Why are you really here?” “What if I said I made a mistake letting you go?” “Wh—what do you mean?” Farrah stammered, not believing her ears. He did not just say that? Did he? Her heart rate picked up speed. “What if I said I realize what a big mistake it was to let you go?” her ex-fiance, who was scheduled to be married in two days, said. Aaron walked over to the bed and sat beside Farrah. He took one of her hands in his. “This doesn’t make any sense,” Farrah said, almost to herself. His declaration totally threw her off balance. It was the last thing she expected. The very last. She looked at her hand in his. His touch. She’d dreamed about this for months. And her dream was miraculously coming true, but … Was her stand-in lover determined to become a more permanent fixture? The Irishman Their mating had been vicious, savage, barbaric … and beautiful. And Farrah wanted more of him. So much more. She hadn’t been consumed by this kind of desire since – since forever. Even Aaron, the man she’d loved for almost a decade, had never come close to making her do some of the things she’d done last night with this perfect stranger. He was wickedly beautiful. Sinfully sexy. Rakishly seductive. Soulfully encompassing. And all of this made him the perfect stand-in lover; the perfect man to show up with to her ex-fiance’s wedding. Aaron would be able to smell another man’s scent on her. She knew he would because the kind of mind-blowing coupling she’d experienced last night didn’t stay confined to the bedroom. It seeped out of your pores and brought a stupid grin to your face for the world to see, smell, crave, and wonder about. *** Her living room wall served as a bed. He pushed her up against it, lifted her off her feet and slammed himself home one last time – all without breaking the kiss that had ignited it all. Farrah release was so hard that her legs, which were wrapped tightly around his waist, fell limp against him. Finn grabbed a fistful of her hair and pulled her head to the side. He whispered in her ear, “He was a fool to let you go.” He zipped his jeans, planted a hard kiss on her lips and left her standing there, practically naked as he closed the door softly behind him. Farrah dropped to her knees and sobbed. The handsome Irishman left her body satiated, and her soul ripped to shreds. *** How could a perfect stranger recognize her value, and Aaron, the man she’d given everything to for years, discard her without even so much as a goodbye? God she hated him. And he would pay. Or, was the all-knowing Irishman right when he said she wanted her ex back? “There’s a thin line between love and hate, Farrah Jane,” he said, moving his hand up to encircle her waist. It didn’t help that he was helping her blur that line so wickedly.
