Book Synopsis Wireless Sensor Network Technologies for the Information Explosion Era by : Takahiro Hara
Download or read book Wireless Sensor Network Technologies for the Information Explosion Era written by Takahiro Hara and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-07-14 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wireless Sensor Network Technologies for Information Explosion Era The amount and value of information available due to rapid spread of information technology is exploding. Typically, large enterprises have approximately a petabyte of operational data stored in hundreds of data repositories supporting thousands of applications. Data storage volumes grow in excess of 50% annually. This growth is expected to continue due to vast proliferation of existing infor- tion systems and the introduction of new data sources. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) represent one of the most notable examples of such new data sources. In recent few years, various types of WSNs have been deployed and the amount of information generated by wireless sensors increases rapidly. The information - plosion requires establishing novel data processing and communication techniques for WSNs. This volume aims to cover both theoretical and practical aspects - lated to this challenge, and it explores directions for future research to enable ef- cient utilization of WSNs in the information-explosion era. The book is organized in three main parts that consider (1) technical issues of WSNs, (2) the integration of multiple WSNs, and (3) the development of WSNs systems and testbeds for conducting practical experiments. Each part consists of three chapters.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The coming generations of wireless network technologies will serve, not only as a means of connecting physical and digital environments, but also to set the foundation for an intelligent world in which all aspects are interconnected, sensed, and endowed with intelligence. Beyond merely providing communication capabilities, future networks will have the capacity to "see" and interpret the physical world. This development compels us to re-imagine the design of current communication infrastructures and terminals, taking into account crucial aspects such as fundamental constraints and tradeoffs, information extraction and processing technologies, issues of public security and privacy, as well as the emergence of numerous new applications. This field of research is known as Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC), and it has ushered in a paradigm shift towards the omnipresence of radio devices. This book provides the first comprehensive introduction to the ISAC theoretical and practical framework. Each chapter is authored by a group of world-leading experts, including over 10 IEEE Fellows. Readers can expect to gain both a broad overview and detailed technical insights into the latest ISAC innovations.

Book Synopsis Intelligent Sensor Networks by : Fei Hu
Download or read book Intelligent Sensor Networks written by Fei Hu and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-12-15 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although governments worldwide have invested significantly in intelligent sensor network research and applications, few books cover intelligent sensor networks from a machine learning and signal processing perspective. Filling this void, Intelligent Sensor Networks: The Integration of Sensor Networks, Signal Processing and Machine Learning focuses on the close integration of sensing, networking, and smart signal processing via machine learning. Based on the world-class research of award-winning authors, the book provides a firm grounding in the fundamentals of intelligent sensor networks, including compressive sensing and sampling, distributed signal processing, and intelligent signal learning. Presenting recent research results of world-renowned sensing experts, the book is organized into three parts: Machine Learning—describes the application of machine learning and other AI principles in sensor network intelligence—covering smart sensor/transducer architecture and data representation for intelligent sensors Signal Processing—considers the optimization of sensor network performance based on digital signal processing techniques—including cross-layer integration of routing and application-specific signal processing as well as on-board image processing in wireless multimedia sensor networks for intelligent transportation systems Networking—focuses on network protocol design in order to achieve an intelligent sensor networking—covering energy-efficient opportunistic routing protocols for sensor networking and multi-agent-driven wireless sensor cooperation Maintaining a focus on "intelligent" designs, the book details signal processing principles in sensor networks. It elaborates on critical platforms for intelligent sensor networks and illustrates key applications—including target tracking, object identification, and structural health monitoring. It also includes a paradigm for validating the extent of spatiotemporal associations among data sources to enhance data cleaning in sensor networks, a sensor stream reduction application, and also considers the use of Kalman filters for attack detection in a water system sensor network that consists of water level sensors and velocity sensors.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Modern Sensors by : Jacob Fraden
Download or read book Handbook of Modern Sensors written by Jacob Fraden and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-29 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seven years have passed since the publication of the previous edition of this book. During that time, sensor technologies have made a remarkable leap forward. The sensitivity of the sensors became higher, the dimensions became smaller, the sel- tivity became better, and the prices became lower. What have not changed are the fundamental principles of the sensor design. They are still governed by the laws of Nature. Arguably one of the greatest geniuses who ever lived, Leonardo Da Vinci, had his own peculiar way of praying. He was saying, “Oh Lord, thanks for Thou do not violate your own laws. ” It is comforting indeed that the laws of Nature do not change as time goes by; it is just our appreciation of them that is being re?ned. Thus, this new edition examines the same good old laws of Nature that are employed in the designs of various sensors. This has not changed much since the previous edition. Yet, the sections that describe the practical designs are revised substantially. Recent ideas and developments have been added, and less important and nonessential designs were dropped. Probably the most dramatic recent progress in the sensor technologies relates to wide use of MEMS and MEOMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems and micro-electro-opto-mechanical systems). These are examined in this new edition with greater detail. This book is about devices commonly called sensors. The invention of a - croprocessor has brought highly sophisticated instruments into our everyday lives.

Book Synopsis Data-Centric Safety by : Alastair Faulkner
Download or read book Data-Centric Safety written by Alastair Faulkner and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2020-05-27 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data-Centric Safety presents core concepts and principles of system safety management, and then guides the reader through the application of these techniques and measures to Data-Centric Systems (DCS). The authors have compiled their decades of experience in industry and academia to provide guidance on the management of safety risk. Data Safety has become increasingly important as many solutions depend on data for their correct and safe operation and assurance. The book's content covers the definition and use of data. It recognises that data is frequently used as the basis of operational decisions and that DCS are often used to reduce user oversight. This data is often invisible, hidden. DCS analysis is based on a Data Safety Model (DSM). The DSM provides the basis for a toolkit leading to improvement recommendations. It also discusses operation and oversight of DCS and the organisations that use them. The content covers incident management, providing an outline for incident response. Incident investigation is explored to address evidence collection and management.Current standards do not adequately address how to manage data (and the errors it may contain) and this leads to incidents, possibly loss of life. The DSM toolset is based on Interface Agreements to create soft boundaries to help engineers facilitate proportionate analysis, rationalisation and management of data safety. Data-Centric Safety is ideal for engineers who are working in the field of data safety management. This book will help developers and safety engineers to: - Determine what data can be used in safety systems, and what it can be used for - Verify that the data being used is appropriate and has the right characteristics, illustrated through a set of application areas - Engineer their systems to ensure they are robust to data errors and failures
