Book Synopsis Continuous Authentication Using Biometrics: Data, Models, and Metrics by : Traore, Issa
Download or read book Continuous Authentication Using Biometrics: Data, Models, and Metrics written by Traore, Issa and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2011-09-30 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: User authentication is the process of verifying whether the identity of a user is genuine prior to granting him or her access to resources or services in a secured environment. Traditionally, user authentication is performed statically at the point of entry of the system; however, continuous authentication (CA) seeks to address the shortcomings of this method by providing increased session security and combating insider threat. Continuous Authentication Using Biometrics: Data, Models, and Metrics presents chapters on continuous authentication using biometrics that have been contributed by the leading experts in this recent, fast growing research area. These chapters collectively provide a thorough and concise introduction to the field of biometric-based continuous authentication. The book covers the conceptual framework underlying continuous authentication and presents detailed processing models for various types of practical continuous authentication applications.

Book Synopsis User Experience Is Brand Experience by : Felix van de Sand
Download or read book User Experience Is Brand Experience written by Felix van de Sand and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-12 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a new method for aligning brand management and user experience goals. Brand management deals with conveying individual brand values at all marketing contact points, the goal being to reach the target group and boost customer retention. In this regard, it is important to consider the uniqueness of each brand and its identity so as to design pleasurable and high-quality user experiences. Combining insights from science and practice, the authors present a strategy for using interaction patterns, visual appearance, and animations to validate the actual brand values that are experienced by users while interacting with a digital product. Further, they introduce a 'UX identity scale' by assigning brand values to UX related psychological needs. The method applied is subsequently backed by theoretical concepts and illustrated with practical examples and case studies on real-world mobile applications.
Book Synopsis Ambient Intelligence by : Boris De Ruyter
Download or read book Ambient Intelligence written by Boris De Ruyter and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-10-31 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a world supported by Ambient Intelligence (AmI), various devices embedded in the environment collectively use the distributed information and the intelligence inherent in this interconnected environment. A range of information from sensing and reas- ing technologies is used by distributed devices in the environment. The cooperation between natural user interfaces and sensor interfaces covers all of a person’s s- roundings, resulting in a device environment that behaves intelligently; the term “Ambient Intelligence” has been coined to describe it. In this way, the environment is able to recognize the persons in it, to identify their individual needs, to learn from their behavior, and to act and react in their interest. Since this vision is influenced by a lot of different concepts in information proce- ing and combines multi-disciplinary fields in electrical engineering, computer science, industrial design, user interfaces, and cognitive sciences, considerable research is needed to provide new models of technological innovation within a multi-dimensional society. Thus the AmI vision relies on the large-scale integration of electronics into the environment, enabling the actors, i.e., people and objects, to interact with their surrounding in a seamless, trustworthy, and natural manner.

Book Synopsis Law in the Time of Oxymora by : Rostam J. Neuwirth
Download or read book Law in the Time of Oxymora written by Rostam J. Neuwirth and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-16 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do different concepts like true lie, bad luck, honest thief, old news, spacetime, glocalization, symplexity, sustainable development, constant change, soft law, substantive due process, pure law, bureaucratic efficiency and global justice have in common? What connections do they share with innumerable paradoxes, like the ones of happiness, time, globalization, sex, and of free will and fate? Law in the Time of Oxymora provides answers to these conundrums by critically comparing the apparent rise in recent years of the use of rhetorical figures called "essentially oxymoronic concepts" (i.e. oxymoron, enantiosis and paradoxes) in the areas of art, science and law. Albeit to varying degrees, these concepts share the quality of giving expression to apparent contradictions. Through this quality, they also challenge the scientific paradigm rooted in the dualistic thinking and binary logic that is traditionally used in the West, as opposed to the East, where a paradoxical mode of thinking and fuzzy logic is said to have been cultivated. Following a review of oxymora and paradoxes in art and various scientific writings, hundreds of "hard cases" featuring oxymora and a comprehensive review of the legal literature are discussed, revealing evidence suggesting that the present scientific paradigm of dualism alone will no longer be able to tackle the challenges arising from increasing diversity and complexity coupled with an apparent acceleration of change. Law in the Time of Oxymora reaches the surprising conclusion that essentially oxymoronic concepts may inaugurate a new era of cognition, involving the ways the senses interact and how we reason, think and make decisions in law and in life.
Book Synopsis Mobile Wireless Middleware, Operating Systems and Applications - Workshops by : Cristian Hesselman
Download or read book Mobile Wireless Middleware, Operating Systems and Applications - Workshops written by Cristian Hesselman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-07-31 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Software systems for wireless and mobile communications are a key component in pervasive computing and are crucial for the materialization of easy-to-use and intel- gent services that people can use ubiquitously. As indicated by its acronym (MOBILe Wireless MiddleWARE, Operating Systems, and Applications), these are the type of systems that form the topic of the MOBILWARE conferencing series. In particular, the goal of MOBILWARE is to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to disseminate and discuss recent advances in software systems for wireless and mobile communications, ranging from work on communication middleware and operating systems to networking protocols and applications. For its second edition, held in Berlin in April 2009, the MOBILWARE Organizing Committee decided to add a full day of workshops on topics related to the main c- ference. Our goals were threefold: 1. Put together a high-quality workshop program consisting of a few focused wo- shops that would provide ample time for discussion, thus enabling presenters to quickly advance their work and workshop attendees to quickly get an idea of - going work in selected research areas. 2. Provide a more complete picture of ongoing work by not only including technical workshops, but also workshops on business and user aspects. We expected that this multi-viewpoint approach would be an added value as technology, business m- els, and user experiences are usually interrelated. 3. Create a breeding ground for submissions for MOBILWARE 2010 and beyond.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Intelligent Vehicles by : Azim Eskandarian
Download or read book Handbook of Intelligent Vehicles written by Azim Eskandarian and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-02-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Intelligent Vehicles provides a complete coverage of the fundamentals, new technologies, and sub-areas essential to the development of intelligent vehicles; it also includes advances made to date, challenges, and future trends. Significant strides in the field have been made to date; however, so far there has been no single book or volume which captures these advances in a comprehensive format, addressing all essential components and subspecialties of intelligent vehicles, as this book does. Since the intended users are engineering practitioners, as well as researchers and graduate students, the book chapters do not only cover fundamentals, methods, and algorithms but also include how software/hardware are implemented, and demonstrate the advances along with their present challenges. Research at both component and systems levels are required to advance the functionality of intelligent vehicles. This volume covers both of these aspects in addition to the fundamentals listed above.
