En nuestra Semiología de la obra dramática vamos a seguir otro basado fundamentalmente en las unidades que están en el texto dramático escrito y se mantienen en la representación escénica. La semiología dramática estudia, pues, el proceso de comunicación dramático en sus formas y en sus relaciones, es decir, en todos sus aspectos: analiza las unidades y categorías y sus relaciones sintácticas (formas, distribución en un esquema), el valor semántico que alcanzan (sentido lingüístico, literario y espectacular) y su sentido pragmático (relaciones del texto con los sujetos del proceso de comunicación dramática y también con los sistemas culturales envolventes: religión, ciencia, artes, etc.).
