Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This milestone 50th volume of the "Séminaire de Probabilités" pays tribute with a series of memorial texts to one of its former editors, Jacques Azéma, who passed away in January. The founders of the "Séminaire de Strasbourg", which included Jacques Azéma, probably had no idea of the possible longevity and success of the process they initiated in 1967. Continuing in this long tradition, this volume contains contributions on state-of-art research on Brownian filtrations, stochastic differential equations and their applications, regularity structures, quantum diffusion, interlacing diffusions, mod-Ø convergence, Markov soup, stochastic billiards and other current streams of research.
Book Synopsis Séminaire de Probabilités XLIV by : Catherine Donati-Martin
Download or read book Séminaire de Probabilités XLIV written by Catherine Donati-Martin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-05-12 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As usual, some of the contributions to this 44th Séminaire de Probabilités were presented during the Journées de Probabilités held in Dijon in June 2010. The remainder were spontaneous submissions or were solicited by the editors. The traditional and historical themes of the Séminaire are covered, such as stochastic calculus, local times and excursions, and martingales. Some subjects already touched on in the previous volumes are still here: free probability, rough paths, limit theorems for general processes (here fractional Brownian motion and polymers), and large deviations. Lastly, this volume explores new topics, including variable length Markov chains and peacocks. We hope that the whole volume is a good sample of the main streams of current research on probability and stochastic processes, in particular those active in France.

Book Synopsis Topological Complexity of Smooth Random Functions by : Robert Adler
Download or read book Topological Complexity of Smooth Random Functions written by Robert Adler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-05-18 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes, based on lectures delivered in Saint Flour, provide an easy introduction to the authors’ 2007 Springer monograph “Random Fields and Geometry.” While not as exhaustive as the full monograph, they are also less exhausting, while still covering the basic material, typically at a more intuitive and less technical level. They also cover some more recent material relating to random algebraic topology and statistical applications. The notes include an introduction to the general theory of Gaussian random fields, treating classical topics such as continuity and boundedness. This is followed by a quick review of geometry, both integral and Riemannian, with an emphasis on tube formulae, to provide the reader with the material needed to understand and use the Gaussian kinematic formula, the main result of the notes. This is followed by chapters on topological inference and random algebraic topology, both of which provide applications of the main results.

Book Synopsis Stability of Queueing Networks by : Maury Bramson
Download or read book Stability of Queueing Networks written by Maury Bramson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-06-26 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Queueing networks constitute a large family of stochastic models, involving jobs that enter a network, compete for service, and eventually leave the network upon completion of service. Since the early 1990s, substantial attention has been devoted to the question of when such networks are stable. This volume presents a summary of such work. Emphasis is placed on the use of fluid models in showing stability, and on examples of queueing networks that are unstable even when the arrival rate is less than the service rate. The material of this volume is based on a series of nine lectures given at the Saint-Flour Probability Summer School 2006. Lectures were also given by Alice Guionnet and Steffen Lauritzen.
Book Synopsis Some Mathematical Models from Population Genetics by : Alison Etheridge
Download or read book Some Mathematical Models from Population Genetics written by Alison Etheridge and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-01-05 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work reflects sixteen hours of lectures delivered by the author at the 2009 St Flour summer school in probability. It provides a rapid introduction to a range of mathematical models that have their origins in theoretical population genetics. The models fall into two classes: forwards in time models for the evolution of frequencies of different genetic types in a population; and backwards in time (coalescent) models that trace out the genealogical relationships between individuals in a sample from the population. Some, like the classical Wright-Fisher model, date right back to the origins of the subject. Others, like the multiple merger coalescents or the spatial Lambda-Fleming-Viot process are much more recent. All share a rich mathematical structure. Biological terms are explained, the models are carefully motivated and tools for their study are presented systematically.
Book Synopsis Large Random Matrices: Lectures on Macroscopic Asymptotics by : Alice Guionnet
Download or read book Large Random Matrices: Lectures on Macroscopic Asymptotics written by Alice Guionnet and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-04-20 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Random matrix theory has developed in the last few years, in connection with various fields of mathematics and physics. These notes emphasize the relation with the problem of enumerating complicated graphs, and the related large deviations questions. Such questions are also closely related with the asymptotic distribution of matrices, which is naturally defined in the context of free probability and operator algebra. The material of this volume is based on a series of nine lectures given at the Saint-Flour Probability Summer School 2006. Lectures were also given by Maury Bramson and Steffen Lauritzen.
Book Synopsis Hydrodynamic Limits of the Boltzmann Equation by : Laure Saint-Raymond
Download or read book Hydrodynamic Limits of the Boltzmann Equation written by Laure Saint-Raymond and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-04-20 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to present some mathematical results describing the transition from kinetic theory, and, more precisely, from the Boltzmann equation for perfect gases to hydrodynamics. Different fluid asymptotics will be investigated, starting always from solutions of the Boltzmann equation which are only assumed to satisfy the estimates coming from physics, namely some bounds on mass, energy and entropy.
Book Synopsis Donaldson Type Invariants for Algebraic Surfaces by : Takuro Mochizuki
Download or read book Donaldson Type Invariants for Algebraic Surfaces written by Takuro Mochizuki and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-04-20 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this monograph, we de?ne and investigate an algebro-geometric analogue of Donaldson invariants by using moduli spaces of semistable sheaves with arbitrary ranks on a polarized projective surface. We may expect the existence of interesting “universal relations among invariants”, which would be a natural generalization of the “wall-crossing formula” and the “Witten conjecture” for classical Donaldson invariants. Our goal is to obtain a weaker version of such relations, in other brief words, to describe a relation as the sum of integrals over the products of m- uli spaces of objects with lower ranks. Fortunately, according to a recent excellent work of L. Gottsche, ̈ H. Nakajima and K. Yoshioka, [53], a wall-crossing formula for Donaldson invariants of projective surfaces can be deduced from such a weaker result in the rank two case. We hope that our work in this monograph would, at least tentatively, provides a part of foundation for the further study on such universal relations. In the rest of this preface, we would like to explain our motivation and some of important ingredients of this study. See Introduction for our actual problems and results. Donaldson Invariants Let us brie?y recall Donaldson invariants. We refer to [22] for more details and precise. We also refer to [37], [39], [51] and [53]. LetX be a compact simply con- ? nected oriented real 4-dimensional C -manifold with a Riemannian metric g. Let P be a principalSO(3)-bundle on X.
Book Synopsis Endoscopy for GSp(4) and the Cohomology of Siegel Modular Threefolds by : Rainer Weissauer
Download or read book Endoscopy for GSp(4) and the Cohomology of Siegel Modular Threefolds written by Rainer Weissauer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-04-28 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume grew out of a series of preprints which were written and circulated - tween 1993 and 1994. Around the same time, related work was done independently by Harder [40] and Laumon [62]. In writing this text based on a revised version of these preprints that were widely distributed in summer 1995, I ?nally did not p- sue the original plan to completely reorganize the original preprints. After the long delay, one of the reasons was that an overview of the results is now available in [115]. Instead I tried to improve the presentation modestly, in particular by adding cross-references wherever I felt this was necessary. In addition, Chaps. 11 and 12 and Sects. 5. 1, 5. 4, and 5. 5 were added; these were written in 1998. I willgivea moredetailedoverviewofthecontentofthedifferentchaptersbelow. Before that I should mention that the two main results are the proof of Ramanujan’s conjecture for Siegel modular forms of genus 2 for forms which are not cuspidal representations associated with parabolic subgroups(CAP representations), and the study of the endoscopic lift for the group GSp(4). Both topics are formulated and proved in the ?rst ?ve chapters assuming the stabilization of the trace formula. All the remaining technical results, which are necessary to obtain the stabilized trace formula, are presented in the remaining chapters. Chapter 1 gathers results on the cohomology of Siegel modular threefolds that are used in later chapters, notably in Chap. 3. At the beginning of Chap.
Book Synopsis A Nonlinear Transfer Technique for Renorming by : Aníbal Moltó
Download or read book A Nonlinear Transfer Technique for Renorming written by Aníbal Moltó and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract topological tools from generalized metric spaces are applied in this volume to the construction of locally uniformly rotund norms on Banach spaces. The book offers new techniques for renorming problems, all of them based on a network analysis for the topologies involved inside the problem. Maps from a normed space X to a metric space Y, which provide locally uniformly rotund renormings on X, are studied and a new frame for the theory is obtained, with interplay between functional analysis, optimization and topology using subdifferentials of Lipschitz functions and covering methods of metrization theory. Any one-to-one operator T from a reflexive space X into c0 (T) satisfies the authors' conditions, transferring the norm to X. Nevertheless the authors' maps can be far from linear, for instance the duality map from X to X* gives a non-linear example when the norm in X is Fréchet differentiable. This volume will be interesting for the broad spectrum of specialists working in Banach space theory, and for researchers in infinite dimensional functional analysis.
