Book Synopsis Semileptonic Decays of B Mesons Into Excited Charm Mesons by :
Download or read book Semileptonic Decays of B Mesons Into Excited Charm Mesons written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We use the heavy quark effective theory to investigate the form factors that describe the semileptonic decays of a B meson into excited daughter mesons. For an excited daughter meson with charm, a single form factor is needed at leading order, while five form factors and two dimensionful constants are needed to order 1/m(sub)c in the heavy quark expansion. For non-charmed final states, a total of four form factors are needed at leading order. For the process B ->D^(*)Xlv, four form factors are also needed at leading order.
Book Synopsis Precision Tests Of The Standard Electroweak Model by : Paul G Langacker
Download or read book Precision Tests Of The Standard Electroweak Model written by Paul G Langacker and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995-02-23 with total page 1032 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High precision measurements of weak neutral current and charged current processes and of the properties of the Z and W bosons have established the standard electroweak model as correct down to a distance scale of 10-16 cm, and are a sensitive probe of possible underlying physics. In this book, all aspects of the program are considered in detail, including the structure of the standard model, radiative corrections, high precision experiments, and their implications. The major classes of experiments are surveyed, covering the experiments themselves, the data analysis, results, and prospects. This volume is a detailed reference for theoretical and experimental researchers, as well as an introductory text for advanced students.
Download or read book B Decays written by Sheldon Stone and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2nd edition is an extensive update of "B Decays?. The revisions are necessary because of the extensive amount of new data and new theoretical ideas. This book reviews what is known about b-quark decays and also looks at what can be learned in the future. The importance of this research area is increasing, as evidenced by the approval of the luminosity upgrade for CESR and the asymmetric B factories at SLAC and KEK, and the possibility of experiments at hadron colliders. The key experimental observations made thus far, measurement of the lifetimes of the different B species, B0-B0 mixing, the discovery of ?Penguin? mediated decays, and the extraction of the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb from semileptonic decays, as well as more mundane results, are described in great detail by the experimentalists who have been closely involved with making the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b-quark decays using HQET and lattice gauge techniques are described by theorists who have developed and used these techniques.Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, several articles discuss the implications for the ?Standard Model? and how further tests can be done using measurements of CP violation in the B system.
Book Synopsis Ds Exclusive Semileptonic Decays at CLEO-c by : Jonathan Insler
Download or read book Ds Exclusive Semileptonic Decays at CLEO-c written by Jonathan Insler and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "We are interested in measuring the exclusive semileptonic decays of the Ds to greater precision because it is the least extensively studied of the ground state charmed mesons, and greater knowledge of the Ds's decays may give information on related processes. We have studied semileptonic decay of the Ds meson using the full data set collected near the D*sDs peak production energy of 4170 MeV with the CLEO-c detector. We have made improved measurements of the branching fractions of Cabibbo favored semileptonic decays [formula would not render] and [formula would not render]. We have also made observations of the branching fractions of Cabibbo suppressed semileptonic decays [formula would not render] and [formula would not render]. These branching fractions are the most precisely measured to date"--Page vi.
Book Synopsis Charmed Mesons Produced in E+e- Annihilation by :
Download or read book Charmed Mesons Produced in E+e- Annihilation written by and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We shall begin our review by summarizing the first experimental indications for the existence of charm as obtained from experiments in e+e− annihilation. This will include a brief discussion of the role of charm in the understanding of the ? mesons, as well as the unraveling of the intricate structure present in the e+ e− total hadronic cross section. Next we shall discuss the discovery of the D°, and D+, and detail those properties crucial to their identification as charmed particles. Following will be a review of the properties of the D° and D+ learned through studies at the ?(3770) resonance, Compelling evidence will be summarized indicating that this state decays nearly exclusively into D{bar D}, thus making it particularly useful in establishing inclusive and exclusive D branching fractions. Our discussion of branching fractions will include two particularly important D decay modes, D°→?+?− and D°→K+−. These processes are suppressed relative to D°→K−?+ in the standard charm model, and thus serve as a critical test of that theory. This will be followed by a discussion of the D semileptonic decay modes which provide useful information on the D° and D+ lifetimes. Turning our attention to the data collected beyond the ?(3770) we will discuss the properties and production mechanisms of the excited charm mesons, the D*° and the D*+. D production just above the ?(3770) appears to be dominated by the three quasi-two-body processes e+ e− → D{bar D}, D*{bar D} + {bar D}*D, and D*{bar D}*, in accordance with early theoretical predictions. The relative amounts of each process, on the other hand, is somewhat surprising, and has led to considerable theoretical speculation. Finally, we will summarize evidence for the existence of the F meson which is as yet not on as solid a footing as the D°, D+ isodoublet.

Book Synopsis Recent Results on D Meson Decays from the MARK III. by :
Download or read book Recent Results on D Meson Decays from the MARK III. written by and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The MARK III Collaboration recently completed the analysis of a number of decay modes of charged and neutral D mesons produced in electron-positron collisions near the peak of the psi(3770) resonance at SLAC's SPEAR storage ring. The mesons were produced nearly at rest in pairs, either DD− or D° anti D°, at a center-of-mass energy below the threshold for DD production. The unique kinematics of the production allow us to isolate the charmed meson signal clearly and unambiguously. The data were collected with the MARK III Spectrometer, a large solid angle magnetic detector. Our data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of approximately 9.3 inverse picobarns. New results will be presented on the absolute branching ratios of D mesons into hadronic final states, branching ratios for three body decays via pseudoscalar-vector intermediate states, and branching ratios for Cabibbo allowed and Cabibbo suppressed decays. Inclusive and exclusive branching ratios for the semi-leptonic decays of D mesons will be presented, as well as the first measurement of the vector form factor in the decay D° .-->. K−e, nu, evidence for interference in D+ decays, and new information on the contributions of W exchange diagrams to D° decays.
Book Synopsis Charmed Meson Production and Decay Properties at the Psi(3770). by :
Download or read book Charmed Meson Production and Decay Properties at the Psi(3770). written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A remeasurement of the resonance near E/sub cm/ = 3.77 GeV in the ee− annihilation is presented. The properties of the resonance are used to deduce branching fractions of charmed mesons into hadronic final states. Several previously unseen decay modes are reported. Decays into Cabibbo suppressed final states are observed. The inclusive properties of D meson decays are studied, including strangeness and charged particle multiplicity. The semileptonic branching fractions for D° and D/sup -+/ are measured, providing a determination of the relative lifetimes of these particles.

Book Synopsis Measurements of the Properties of D-meson Decays by :
Download or read book Measurements of the Properties of D-meson Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a study of the decay properties of charmed D mesons produced near the peak of the ?" (3770) resonance in e+e− annihilation. Branching fractions for nine Cabibbo-favored and three Cabibbo-suppressed decay modes are presented along with upper limits on one additional Cabibbo-favored and four additional Cabibbo-suppressed decay modes. A study of K?? decay mode Dalitz plots reveals a large quasi-two-body pseudoscalar-vector component for the D° decays and an apparent nonuniform population an the Dalitz plot for the D+ decay into K−?+?+. Using tagged events, we measure the charged particle multiplicity and strange particle content of D decays. A measurement of the D+ and D0 semileptonic decay fractions indicates that the D+ has a significantly longer lifetime than the D0.
Book Synopsis High Energy Electron-positron Physics by : Ahmed Ali
Download or read book High Energy Electron-positron Physics written by Ahmed Ali and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1988 with total page 896 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the termination of the physics program at PETRA, and with the start of TRISTAN and the SLC and later LEP, an era of e+e- physics has come to an end and a new one begins. The field is changing from a field of few specialists, to becoming one of the mainstream efforts of the high energy community. It seems appropriate at this moment to summarize what has been learned over the past years, in a way most useful to any high energy physicists, in particular to newcomers in the e+e- field. This is the purpose of the book. This book should be used as a reference for future workers in the field of e+e- interactions. It includes the most relevant data, parametrizations, theoretical background, and a chapter on detectors.
