Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Self-diffusion in liquid methane, under its own vapor pressure, has been studied between the triple point and the normal boiling point by means of the spin-echo technique. The activation energy for self-diffusion is approximately 0.67 kcal/mole. These results are compared with the constant-pressure tracer results of Naghizadeh and Rice, which show somewhat higher self diffusion coefficients and an activation energy of approximately 0.83 kcal/mole. The tempera ture dependence of self-diffusion in liquid methane appears to be comparable on the basis of a classical reduction to corresponding states, by means of critical constants, to that in liquid Ar, Kr, and Xe. Measurements of the proton spin lattice relaxation time in our sample indicate that the relaxation is predominantly controlled by the mutual diffusion of the hydrocarbon and small amounts of dissolved oxygen. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) are crystalline compounds consisting of rigid organic molecules held together and organized by metal ions or clusters. Special interests in these materials arise from the fact that many are highly porous and can be used for storage of small molecules, for example H2 or CO2. Consequently, the materials are ideal candidates for a wide range of applications including gas storage, separation technologies and catalysis. Potential applications include the storage of hydrogen for fuel-cell cars, and the removal and storage of carbon dioxide in sustainable technical processes. MOFs offer the inorganic chemist and materials scientist a wide range of new synthetic possibilities and open the doors to new and exciting basic research. Metal-Organic Frameworks Materials provides a solid basis for the understanding of MOFs and insights into new inorganic materials structures and properties. The volume also reflects progress that has been made in recent years, presenting a wide range of new applications including state-of-the art developments in the promising technology for alternative fuels. The comprehensive volume investigates structures, symmetry, supramolecular chemistry, surface engineering, recognition, properties, and reactions. Book excerpt: The development, storage and comprehensive utilization of energy is an important subject concerned by scientists all over the world. Carbon capture and storage technology is one of the most effective mitigation technologies for global climate change, accurate understanding of the migration of multiphase fluids in reservoirs is crucial for reservoir stock evaluation and safety evaluation. Understanding Carbon Geologic Sequestration and Gas Hydrate from Molecular Simulation systematically introduces CO2 geological sequestration and gas hydrate at the molecular-scale, with research including interfacial properties of multiphase, multicomponent systems, hydrogen bonding properties, adsorption characteristics of CO2 / CH4 in the pore, kinetic properties of decomposition/nucleation/growth of gas hydrate, the influence of additives on gas hydrate growth dynamics, and hydrate prevention and control technology. This book focuses on research-based achievements and provides a comprehensive look at global progress in the field. Because there are limited resources available on carbon geologic sequestration technology and gas hydrate technology at the molecular level, the authors wrote this book to fill a gap in scientific literature and prompt further research. Distills learnings for fundamental and advanced knowledge of molecular simulation in carbon dioxide and gas hydrate storage Synthesizes knowledge about the development status of CGS technology and hydrate technology in the molecular field – tackling these technologies from a microscopic perspective Analyzes scientific problems related to CGS technology and hydrate technology based on molecular simulation methods Explores challenges relative to carbon dioxide and hydrate storage Provides hierarchical analysis combined with the authors’ own research-based case studies for enhanced comprehension and application

Book excerpt: "Molecular Sieves - Science and Technology" covers, in a comprehensive manner, the science and technology of zeolites and all related microporous and mesoporous materials. The contributions are grouped together topically in such a way that each volume deals with a specific sub-field. Volume 7 treats fundamentals and analyses of adsorption and diffusion in zeolites including single-file diffusion. Various methods of measuring adsorption and diffusion are described and discussed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carbon has always been an essential feature of human civilisation (not to mention the human constitution), whether as mere fuel, as an expensive bauble or as an essential component of those two supporting pillars (organic chemicals, steel) of the industrial revolution. Even since its recognition as an element, 21?4 centuries ago, it has never ceased to offer new surprises and properties. Just decades ago, students had to contend with only two main forms, graphite and diamond, but nowadays there is a plethora of nanotubes, fullerenes, graphenes, etc. The present volume offers a compilation (over 400 items) of data on mass diffusion, in all of the various known allotropes of carbon, spanning some 6 decades.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains data on diffusion in liquid mixtures. Diffusion processes are widespread phenomena in nature, of which mass diffusion is the most important one, in particular in liquids. The corresponding diffusion coefficients strongly depend on concentration, temperature, pressure and density. Contrary to the measurement of viscosity or heat transfer, where a few well developed experimental methods exist, we find a wide spectrum of different methods for measuring mass diffusion coefficients ranging from NMR spectroscopy, scattering, holography, interferometry, chromatography, diffusion through diaphragm and in capillary systems, and electroanalytical methods. After an introduction about the selection and normalization of data, in its first part this volume presents the most important measurement methods, followed by a second part on diffusion coefficient data depending on the various parameters.

The invited plenary lectures given by eminent zeolite scientists summarize current knowledge and address topical areas of zeolite research, including a contribution on the use of zeolites as membranes. The field of investigations described in the submitted articles in this volume covers a wide area of problems ranging from the influence of the synthesis process on the properties to questions of acidity, adsorption, diffusion, and catalysis. Of special interest are the newly developed applications of zeolites in the synthesis of fine chemicals, the use of zeolites for sensors and solid electrolytes, and the sophisticated zeolite-based separation processes.
