Book Synopsis Poder y seguridad energética en las relaciones internacionales by : Antonio José Sánchez Ortega
Download or read book Poder y seguridad energética en las relaciones internacionales written by Antonio José Sánchez Ortega and published by Editorial Reus. This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Managing Energy Security by : Maria G. Burns
Download or read book Managing Energy Security written by Maria G. Burns and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-03-29 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This interdisciplinary book is written for government and industry professionals who need a comprehensive, accessible guide to modern energy security. Introducing the ten predominant energy types, both renewable and non-renewable, the book illustrates the modern energy landscape from a geopolitical, commercial, economic and technological perspective. Energy is presented as the powerhouse of global economic activities. To ensure the uninterrupted supply of energy, nations, industries and consumers need to have options. Efficient energy security planning ensures that when a primary energy source is depleted, compromised or interrupted, an alternative energy source must be readily available. For this reason, the foundations of energy security are built upon the five pillars of Sustainability, Independence, Efficiency, Affordability and Accessibility. The numerous case studies presented in this book demonstrate that energy security may be compromised in the absence of one out of these five ingredients. The book also entertains the Triple-E notion of Energy Efficiency, Environmental integrity and Economies of scale, used by governments and corporations for energy optimization. One of the key strengths of the book is its ability effectively to cover various scientific disciplines, and several energy types, while remaining comprehensible. This book will be of much interest to security or logistics professionals, economists and engineers, as well as policymakers.

Book Synopsis Energy Security by : Nikolai Mouraviev
Download or read book Energy Security written by Nikolai Mouraviev and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-10-17 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses energy policy within the framework of the expansion of renewable energy sources (RES) and increasing resource use efficiency. In this book, the term ‘resource efficiency’ is defined as deriving the most value from resource inputs related to energy production, while incorporating energy efficiency. The authors highlight the drivers, policy approaches, governance issues and management problems related to the reduction of dependency on fossil fuels by focusing on RES and resource efficiency. Mouraviev and Koulori argue that enhancing energy security requires a new approach, integrating two core components: the emphasis on increasing energy production from renewable sources and resource use efficiency, which forms a contrast to the traditional understanding of energy security as security of supply. Blending theory with practice using several case studies, this original book provides a novel conceptualisation of energy security that will be of interest and value to practitioners and policy makers as well as scholars and researchers.

Book Synopsis Energy Security and Environmental Sustainability in the Western Hemisphere by : Remi B. Piet
Download or read book Energy Security and Environmental Sustainability in the Western Hemisphere written by Remi B. Piet and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2017-02-03 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In light of the rapid fluctuations in oil prices and subsequent impact on the stability and economic perspectives of energy producing and energy importing states in the Western Hemisphere, this book stresses the urgency to integrate sustainability at the very core of national energy security strategies. From Canada to Argentina, this edited volume analyzes a series of case studies and diverging paradigms across the continent. It underlines how the relatively recent exploitation of unconventional energy sources in North America and the resulting impact on prices impact the geopolitical concerns of traditional producers. It also explains how much energy strategies are central to the development of national economies and the stability of their society. Highlighting the shortcomings in several countries even at a time of high prices, the volume makes the case for an inclusive and holistic approach to energy security that would integrate environmental concerns at its very core. This edited volume also explains how this new energy independence of the western Hemisphere affects its foreign policy with the main international actors in the field of energy whether traditional producers or consumers. Finally, it provides key insights on successful strategy towards the development of alternative sources of energy.

Book excerpt: In terms of energy security the Black Sea region is important to Europe. Inevitably and for very good reasons, a lot of attention has been given to the existing and planned pipeline routes going around or across the Black Sea. Much less attention has been given to the development of the Black Sea energy market in its own right and to the potential advantages of coping with some current and future energy issues in a multilateral regional format rather than through individual action at national level. The present book addresses, in a comprehensive manner, the current problematic of energy security and goes beyond pipeline politics, without playing down their continued significance; it addresses some topical questions related to the sustainability and resilience of energy systems as applicable to the Black Sea region.

Book excerpt: The geopolitics of oil and gas have made a spectacular return to the international political agenda. The European Union (EU) has recognized the importance of incorporating energy security more systematically into foreign policy. It has committed itself to pursuing an energy security policy based on market interdependence, European unity and long-term governance improvements in producer states. In offering the first broad, global assessment of the foreign policy dimensions of EU energy security, this book considers how far these commitments have been implemented. Examining how the EU’s general approach to energy security has played out in the specific political contexts of different countries and regions, distinctive features of the book include: a thorough analysis of current EU strategies towards energy security, assessing the EU as an international actor a key focus on the governance structures of producer states including the Middle East; Russia, Central Asia and the Caspian, and Sub-Saharan Africa a major addition to debates surrounding markets and geopolitics, informing both international relations and international political economy This book will be of interest to students, scholars and policy makers in the fields of European/EU Politics, energy politics, foreign policy and International Relations.
