This book was released on 2007-07-06 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “From a business perspective, I comprehend Dr. Farid’s task was to offer, sell, and carry out after-sale services. Dr. Farid, from a surgeon’sperspective, comprehends his task was to check, take action and aidrecovery. Dr. Farid undertook his duty with true sincerity, responsibility, and joy, thus enabling him to find the path that eluded us.” M. Jusuf Kalla Vice President Republic of Indonesia (2004-2009 & 2014-2019) “Dr. Farid Husain is indeed an extraordinary person. He is a man ofpatience and honesty who never once despaired of bringing the twoconflicting parties of GAM and RI to the negotiating table.” Malik Mahmud Former GAM Prime Minister “This man successfully implemented many of Jusuf Kalla’s orders andsucceeded in bringing the conflicting sides to the negotiating table ....When the religious sentiment erupted in Poso, Central Sulawesi, severalyears ago, Farid went to extreme lengths behind the screen to bringabout the signing of the Malino I Peace Treaty in December 2001.” Special Edition of Tempo Magazine, October 30 2005 “..in my view, Farid Husain, just like Jusuf Kalla, was an essential troubleshooter. They could both be relied upon to solve problems.” Pieter Feith Former Chief of Aceh Monitoring Mission (AMM) I wrote this book from the notes I compiled while conducting peace missions in several territories within our homeland, specifically in Poso, Ambon, and Aceh. As many of my notes have never been publicized before, Mr. Jusuf Kalla has no real idea of their contents. This was one fact that motivated me to write this book. I wanted to expose the ‘unseen’ and that is why I chose the title To See the Unseen. I hope that the experiences depicted in this book may benefit the readers, especially those with an interest in conflict resolution and peace.

Download or read book Sites Unseen written by Dianne Harris and published by University of Pittsburgh Pre. This book was released on 2007-05-27 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sites Unseen challenges conventions for viewing and interpreting the landscape, using visual theory to move beyond traditional practices of describing and classifying objects to explore notions of audience and context. While other fields, such as art history and geography, have engaged poststructuralist theory to consider vision and representation, the application of such inquiry to the natural or built environment has lagged behind. This book, by treating landscape as a spatial, psychological, and sensory encounter, aims to bridge this gap, opening a new dialogue for discussing the landscape outside the boundaries of current art criticism and theory. As the contributors reveal, the landscape is a widely adaptable medium that can be employed literally or metaphorically to convey personal or institutional ideologies. Walls, gates, churchyards, and arches become framing devices for a staged aesthetic experience or to suit a sociopolitical agenda. The optic stimulation of signs, symbols, bodies, and objects combines with physical acts of climbing and walking and sensory acts of touching, smelling, and hearing to evoke an overall "vision" of landscape.Sites Unseen considers a variety of different perspectives, including ancient Roman visions of landscape, the framing techniques of a Moghul palace, and a contemporary case study of Christo's The Gates, as examples of human attempts to shape our sensory, cognitive, and emotional experiences in the landscape.

Book Synopsis Playwright, Space and Place in Early Modern Performance by : Tim Fitzpatrick
Download or read book Playwright, Space and Place in Early Modern Performance written by Tim Fitzpatrick and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analyzing Elizabethan and Jacobean playtexts for their spatial implications, this innovative study discloses the extent to which the resources and constraints of public playhouse buildings affected the construction of the fictional worlds of early modern plays. The study argues that playwrights were writing with foresight, inscribing the constraints and resources of the stages into their texts. It goes further, to posit that Shakespeare and his playwright-contemporaries adhered to a set of generic conventions, rather than specific local company practices, about how space and place were to be related in performance: the playwrights constituted thus an overarching virtual 'company' producing playtexts that shared features across the acting companies and playhouses. By clarifying a sixteenth- to seventeenth-century conception of theatrical place, Tim Fitzpatrick adds a new layer of meaning to our understanding of the plays. His approach adds a new dimension to these particular documents which - though many of them are considered of great literary worth - were not originally generated for any other reason than to be performed within a specific performance context. The fact that the playwrights were aware of the features of this performance tradition makes their texts a potential mine of performance information, and casts light back on the texts themselves: if some of their meanings are 'spatial', these will have been missed by purely literary tools of analysis.
