Book excerpt: Most believe out there somewhere above the clouds, past the moon and stars is a world of joy, love, imagination and creativity. Down here on the third rock from the Sun, that is our genius, too, and we must not be talked out of it. I am a nonartist and writer searching joy through creative self-expression. My story is kind of a walk through my mind while I'm writing and Expressing ourselves creatively does more than bring us joy. It is just plain good medicine. It helps us resolve inner conflicts, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness. Even Jesus reminds us, if you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. What you do not bring forth from within will ultimately destroy you. I personally believe being happily engaged in writing and art making is better than not; and secondly, living without depression, pain and anger is better than living with them.

Reviewed by Twitter handle (@LoisCHenderson) Freelance Book Reviewer. The hardest thing for me as a grandmother writing about love, was to cut away all that is incidental and keep only that which remains as the nobility and science of ecstasy. As a writer and woman whose loved and lost, I feel like it is impossible to build good relationships until we've burned away our youth and its fairy-tales, as well as learned misapprehensions from our past. In other words, we must retrain the brain to accept and maintain love.

Book excerpt: This book argues that the most effective and influential trainers have at least two things in Common - they know why they are trainers, and they understand that training is a partnership. Training from the Heart shows you how to find your own "training heart," and then how to use this insight to create a learning climate that will encourage your learners to apply lessons from the classroom to the job. Training professionals willing to take this journey of self-discovery are encouraged to take "action" and are given ample assistance by the authors through the use of self-assessments, thought-provoking checklists, and other learning tools. In addition, you will find many useful first-person vignettes throughout the book that demonstrate why training from the heart really works.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sculpting the Self addresses “what it means to be human” in a secular, post-Enlightenment world by exploring notions of self and subjectivity in Islamic and non-Islamic philosophical and mystical thought. Alongside detailed analyses of three major Islamic thinkers (Mullā Ṣadrā, Shāh Walī Allāh, and Muhammad Iqbal), this study also situates their writings on selfhood within the wider constellation of related discussions in late modern and contemporary thought, engaging the seminal theoretical insights on the self by William James, Jean-Paul Sartre, and Michel Foucault. This allows the book to develop its inquiry within a spectrum theory of selfhood, incorporating bio-physiological, socio-cultural, and ethico-spiritual modes of discourse and meaning-construction. Weaving together insights from several disciplines such as religious studies, philosophy, anthropology, critical theory, and neuroscience, and arguing against views that narrowly restrict the self to a set of cognitive functions and abilities, this study proposes a multidimensional account of the self that offers new options for addressing central issues in the contemporary world, including spirituality, human flourishing, and meaning in life. This is the first book-length treatment of selfhood in Islamic thought that draws on a wealth of primary source texts in Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Greek, and other languages. Muhammad U. Faruque’s interdisciplinary approach makes a significant contribution to the growing field of cross-cultural dialogue, as it opens up the way for engaging premodern and modern Islamic sources from a contemporary perspective by going beyond the exegesis of historical materials. He initiates a critical conversation between new insights into human nature as developed in neuroscience and modern philosophical literature and millennia-old Islamic perspectives on the self, consciousness, and human flourishing as developed in Islamic philosophical, mystical, and literary traditions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of the use of rapid prototyping in patients with cardiac pathology. With the exponential increase in the use of prototyping, or 3D printing technology, medical applications are becoming more widespread across specialties. Although medical centers are beginning to apply this technology for improved patient care, there is no single text to which specialists can refer for guidance about this emerging modality. The book discusses the use of rapid prototyping in medicine; model creation; image acquisition; rapid prototyping techniques; applications in congenital and structural heart disease; and development and management of a rapid prototyping service. The use of rapid prototyping for pre-procedural planning in patients with cardiac disorders such as septal defects, Tetralogy of Fallot, transcatheter aortic valve replacement, and ventricular assist devices and heart transplant significantly enhances visualization of cardiovascular anatomy. Rapid Prototyping in Cardiac Disease is a unique and valuable resource for cardiac imaging specialists, cardiothoracic surgeons, radiologists, and biomedical engineers.
