Book Synopsis Production des Connaissances en Sciences Sociales en Afrique by : Moulio Moungbakou
Download or read book Production des Connaissances en Sciences Sociales en Afrique written by Moulio Moungbakou and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2022-02-11 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the epistemological, ethical and methodological challenges faced by African scholars in their research practices. The epistemological domain addresses three interrelated topics: how African university students ethnocentric choice of research topics hampers the production of knowledge; researchers adaptation of their research methods to improve validity; and the challenge of knowledge production on community museums plagued by gross inertia, irregularities, uncooperative gatekeepers and inadequate funding. The methodological domain foregrounds issues around scientific rigour, the criteria for what counts as quality research, and reporting standards. Contributors contend that the use of mixed methods provides the best scope for the effective study and evaluation of social issues. They also detail how better-funded projects tend to improve the respect of ethical standards especially as they pertain to the protection of subjects confidentiality. Self-financed researchers on the other hand tend to be less compliant, a challenge that afflict especially younger and inexperienced researchers. This volume thus contributes not only to a critical understanding of the challenges faced by social scientists in contemporary Africa, but also the prospects and mechanisms on how to improve knowledge production processes.

Book Synopsis Les sciences humaines dans le centre de l’art by : CORDONNIER Sarah
Download or read book Les sciences humaines dans le centre de l’art written by CORDONNIER Sarah and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2012-09-24 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis The Experiment in the History of Economics by : Philippe Fontaine
Download or read book The Experiment in the History of Economics written by Philippe Fontaine and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2005-07-12 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the history of economic ideas, it has often been asserted that experimentation is impossible, yet, in fact, history shows that the idea of ‘experimentation’ has always been important, and as such has been interpreted and put to use in many ways. Rich in historical detail, the essays in this topical volume deal with such issues as laboratory experimentation, the observed transition from a post-war economics to a contemporary discipline, the contrasting positions of Friedrich Hayek and Oskar Morgenstern, the socio-economic experiments proposed by Ernest Solvay and Knut Wicksell, and a rigorous examination of the way in which economic models can or cannot be construed as valid experiments producing useful knowledge. A testament to the variety of ways in which experimentation has been of importance in the creation of economic knowledge, these wide-ranging essays will interest those seeking to expand their historical understanding of the discipline, be they theorists, historians, philosophers, advanced students or researchers.
Book Synopsis Bourdieu and Culture by : Derek Robbins
Download or read book Bourdieu and Culture written by Derek Robbins and published by SAGE. This book was released on 1999-12-20 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An accessible and readable introduction to Bourdieu′s work, this book places him in intellectual and historical context, and shows how Bourdieu is best understood as a cultural analyst. It traces his development from his early work on education to his relationship to cultural sociology and cultural studies. The book also gives detailed examples, drawn from Bourdieu′s own work, to show how he makes sense of contemporary culture. Robbins guides the reader authoritatively through Bourdieu′s wide-ranging body of theoretical and analytical work and offers a framework within which the most recent aspects of that work can be understood.
