Book Synopsis Principles of Cost Accounting (Classic Reprint) by : John R. Wildman
Download or read book Principles of Cost Accounting (Classic Reprint) written by John R. Wildman and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Cost Accounting The motive which prompted the author to prepare and publish Cost Accounting, was the desire to supply a demand for a text book on the part of the students in New York University School of Commerce, Accounts and Finance. In presenting it for public consideration it is desired to have clearly understood the fact that it is intended as a text book especially adapted to the needs of students, and is not in tended as a general reference work. The supply of literature on the subject of cost account ing 13 increasing rapidly. The quality of such literature is of a high order. The fault to be found with it from the point of View of a teacher is that it is too highly specialized. The tendency on the part of authors on this subject is to select some particular industry or line of production and describe a particular system, attempting to make such typical of the entire subject. Most systems are accompanied by elaborate forms. In fact it may be said that many systems are nothing more than a collection of forms. This practice has been carried to such an extent that it would not be extravagant to state that the average student looks upon the study of cost accounting as a matter of becoming familiar with certain specific forms comprising a particular system. In this maze of forms the student becomes lost and the principles underlying the forms are entirely overlooked. Download or read book State Policies in Public School Finance (Classic Reprint) written by Fletcher Harper Swift and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-13 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from State Policies in Public School Finance The vast increases in school expenditure revealed by Table 1 are the result of the interaction of many different factors - the rapid increase both in total and in school population, the lengthening of the legal school year, the extension and increasingly effective enforcement of compulsory education laws, the placing by the community upon the school of a larger and larger number of functions, resulting In the introduction of many new types of studies and activities. It is impossible to consider here these various factors and the part they have played in increasing school costs. We may, however, show what is perhaps the most influential of all the above factors, namely, the growth in average attendance. In like manner, the increase in the annual average expenditure per Child epitomizes the net result of the interaction of most, if not all, of the factors at work} Data bearing upon these two factors are gathered together in Table 2, which shows by 10-year periods the increase from 1870 to 1918 in (1) the number of children in average attendance, (2) the annual expenditure per child in attendance, (3) the total annual expenditure. This little book is not a treatise: it is a primer for the use of beginners. Many people - even adults and wise men - prefer to begin the study of a subject through a Primer. Such a book gives one a general View of the subject, and at the same time gives enough facts and information for the average man or woman. There are many important facts, rules, and exceptions of school finance that are not contained in this book. The most important facts and rules of school finance are described here. Book Synopsis The Control of City School Finances (Classic Reprint) by : George Willard Frasier
Download or read book The Control of City School Finances (Classic Reprint) written by George Willard Frasier and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-18 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Control of City School Finances The public schools of America cost money. This cost has constantly increased until today it involves a vast expenditure. Americans no longer doubt the advisability of public schools, but the question of financing these schools is a vital one. It is not the purpose of this book to discuss the merits of different methods of providing funds for the public schools. It shall attempt only to discuss the merits of the different methods of controlling these moneys. In New York City the board of esti mate and apportionment controls the granting of money to the schools; in Detroit it is the city council and mayor; in Cleveland it is the county budget commission; in Newark it is the board of school estimate; while in such cities as Philadelphia, Seattle, Chicago and St. Louis, the board of educa tion raises and expends its own funds. The question as to who shall control the raising g and disbursing of moneys for the public schools is, and has been for years, a much debated question. It is the purpose of this book to present the different methods used in American cities and to examine and evaluate each in the light of educational efficiency. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Prentice-Hall Tax Service for 1919 This allowance is not based upon the difference between the actual war cost of such facilities and what they would have cost at pre-war prices. Obviously the taxpayer is not entitled to recover or extinguish through amortization more than the difference between the war cost of such property and what he can sell the property for after the war, or if he continues to need and use it in his business, what it would have cost him after the war. As the rule is expressed in Article 183 of the Regulations: The total amount to be extinguished by amortization, in general, is the excess of the unextinguished or unrecovered cost of the property over its maximum value (either for sale or for use as part of the plant or equipment of a going business) under stable post war.
