Book Synopsis A Coyote Taught Me Poetry by : Jessica Lyn Elkins
Download or read book A Coyote Taught Me Poetry written by Jessica Lyn Elkins and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-10-20 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A coyote taught me about poetry and life. A four-part collection of poetry and prose tells of a journey of discovery that began during daily observations in the high desert of New Mexico. I met coyotes, cranes, and a homeless man who occupied the same territory on the edges of urban life. These experiences led to my involvement in a grassroots movement to save rural land from development. After a cross-country move to the Sunshine State, the fecund profusion of Southern wildlife and century oak trees deepened my appreciation for natures diversity. Treasures and Connections chronicles loss, death, and triumph of an internal journey to acceptance. The poems of love and relationships recount the personal examination that enabled me to understand lifes fragility. The final section is a tribute to my mother, a woman of her time, who wrote poetry and yearned to be heard.

Book Synopsis We Had More To Say by : Raymond Zachary Ortiz
Download or read book We Had More To Say written by Raymond Zachary Ortiz and published by Sunstone Press. This book was released on 2011-07-25 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ortiz’s poems expand the idea of pilgrimage to include those experiences which touch some profound dimension within, when connections are made with what might be called “soul” or “spirit,” when the tourist becomes the seeker, and sight-seeing magically turns into soul-making. The sacred journey takes us to those liminal places where one dimension touches another. Among many skills and themes, this poet favors transformation: extending the commonplace like a quilt, a grave stone, his grandfather’s shovel into the margins between memory and the sacred. There are many love poems in which the present moment shifts into something grand, wide or deep. The poems in We Had More to Say are also a vivid testimony to how grief or loss can be turned into a blessing. They shift and blend, and meld into another dimension. People move in and out of reality. RAYMOND ZACHARY ORTIZ is a native of Santa Fe with deep roots in Northern New Mexico where his extended family and ancestors have lived for over four centuries. He was first inspired by poetry as a child listening to his grandfather recite poems in the shade of a willow by a ditch after a long day of chores. Poetry has been an integral part of his life since then, initially as he continued listening and reading, then as a student of poetry and literature. He received his BA from the University of Notre Dame, then lived in Costa Rica while volunteering as a social worker. He continued his formal education at the University of California Berkeley (Boalt Hall) where he received his JD. After over twenty years of law practice in Santa Fe in late 2005, he was appointed district court judge. The pre-dawn hour often finds him at a small table in a dark part of the house, writing out poems in longhand by candlelight.

Download or read book Placing Poetry written by Ian Davidson and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2013 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays in this volume present a thorough re-evaluation of the idea of place for the twenty-first century, linking across theoretical interests in space and spatialisation and in motion and mobility. ‘Placing’ becomes an active process that happens in different parts of the world, and there is work here from the countries of the United Kingdom, from Ireland, the USA, Australia and mainland Europe. Placing also happens in different contexts, in the Production of visual images, in translation, in performance and in poetry that is both ‘there’ and ‘here’. The range of poets under consideration matches the breadth of the range of the Contributors. International in scope, and drawn from a variety of practices and processes, their combination in a single volume leads to unusual connections and new readings of their work.
Book Synopsis Selected Poems of Giovanni Pascoli by : Giovanni Pascoli
Download or read book Selected Poems of Giovanni Pascoli written by Giovanni Pascoli and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2019-10-15 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most comprehensive collection in English of the founder of modern Italian poetry Giovanni Pascoli (1855–1912)—the founder of modern Italian poetry and one of Italy's most beloved poets—has been compared to Robert Frost for his evocation of natural speech, his bucolic settings, and the way he bridges poetic tradition and the beginnings of modernism. Featuring verse from throughout his career, and with the original Italian on facing pages, Selected Poems of Giovanni Pascoli is a comprehensive and authoritative collection of a fascinating and major literary figure. Reading this poet of nature, grief, and small-town life is like traveling through Italy's landscapes in his footsteps—from Romagna and Bologna to Rome, Sicily, and Tuscany—as the country transformed from an agrarian society into an industrial one. Mixing the elevated diction of Virgil with local slang and the sounds of the natural world, these poems capture sense-laden moments: a train's departure, a wren's winter foraging, and the lit windows of a town at dusk. Incorporating revolutionary language into classical scenes, Pascoli's poems describe ancient rural dramas—both large and small—that remain contemporary. Framed by an introduction, annotations, and a substantial chronology, Taije Silverman and Marina Della Putta Johnston's translations render the variety, precision, and beauty of Pascoli's poetry with a profoundly current vision.
