Book excerpt: “Save the Date is a sweet romance filled with laugh-out-loud moments. Jones breathes new life into the clichéd ‘relationship of convenience’ plot with characters to root for.” —RT Book Reviews You are cordially invited to the wedding of the year with the most unlikely bride and groom. Save the date . . . and say your prayers. When funding for Lucy's non-profit job is pulled, she is determined to find out why. Enter Alex Sinclair, former professional football star and heir to Sinclair Enterprises—the primary donor to Lucy's non-profit organization. Both Lucy and Alex have something the other desperately wants. Alex has it all . . . except for the votes he needs to win his bid for Congress. Despite their mutual dislike, Alex makes Lucy a proposition: pose as his fiancée in return for the money she desperately needs. Bound to a man who isn't quite what he seems, Lucy finds her heart—and her future—on the line. Save the Date is a spunky romance that will have readers laughing out loud as this dubious pair try to save their careers, their dreams . . . and maybe even a date. “There are few things I love more than curling up with a Jenny B. Jones cast of characters. Save the Date was no exception.” —Kristin Billerbeck, author of The Theory of Happily Ever After “Jones’s sassy style is merely one of this romance novelist’s many endearing talents . . . Some subtle faith messages about trusting God despite painful pasts round out this fast-paced, lighthearted romantic escape.” —Publishers Weekly “If you love novels with real characters wrestling with life and faith while they find love, this is the book for you.” —Cara Putman, author of Delayed Justice

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Forword: Once upon a time, a boy was born... A little earlier-or maybe it was a little later, I'm not really sure-a girl was born. The boy grew up. The girl grew up. It wasn't always easy, but after overcoming many difficulties, they found each other. They married. And they lived happily ever after. Sounds like a fairy tale, doesn't it? Well, it's not a fairy tale! Research makes it clear: there are people - thousands of couples - living happily ever after right now. We just don't hear much about them. It makes you wonder: What do they know that the other couples don't know? Maybe you know that your marriage needs saving. Your partner has walked out or suggested a "trial separation." Or you have been on the verge of doing the same thing. Or, worse, even though you know it's bad, you have decided, "This is just the way marriage is. It wouldn't be any better with anyone else. Get used to it!" Maybe things are "OK," but you just feel something isn't right. Something important is missing. It's not what you expected, what you hoped for when you got together. Either way, no matter what troubles you've gone through, no matter how things are now between you and your mate, you can learn to do the few simple things the happy couples do. Then you too will have a real shot at living happily ever after. This book is here to point the way.

Book Synopsis Compendium of GAO's Views on the Cost Saving Proposals of the Grace Commission: Individual issue analyses by : United States. General Accounting Office
Download or read book Compendium of GAO's Views on the Cost Saving Proposals of the Grace Commission: Individual issue analyses written by United States. General Accounting Office and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 1320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In response to a congressional request, GAO examined issues studied and recommendations made by the President's Private Sector Survey on Cost Control, better known as the Grace Commission, to determine whether: (1) the issues and recommendations made on program management and cost control had merit; (2) legislation would be necessary to implement the recommendations; (3) implementation efforts were completely underway; and (4) the savings estimates were realistic. GAO found that many of the issues studied and recommendations made by the Commission had overall merit and that, while many have already been implemented by legislative or administrative action, many more require additional legislative action to be fully implemented. However, GAO questioned the accuracy of many of the associated savings estimates, found flaws in the methodology used to develop some of the estimates, and found that the description of the methodology used in some estimates was insufficient to allow an assessment of its validity. In most of the instances where GAO questioned the methodology used, it believed that the savings were overstated. GAO supported management improvement issues more frequently than policy-oriented issues; however, policy-oriented issues constitute a large portion of the total estimated savings. GAO does not support restructuring federal subsidy programs and fixing federal health care costs to a percentage of the gross national product, and it disagreed with selected aspects of recommendations to reduce civilian and military retirement benefits. GAO support was most extensive in the areas aimed at strengthening federal management systems, federal automatic data processing operations, federal credit and cash management efforts, and civilian procurement and property management activities. GAO has made similar or related recommendations in nearly half of the areas in which it agreed with the Commission. Additional legislative action would be necessary to fully implement approximately half of the recommendations analyzed.
