Book excerpt: "Since I have taught courses in seminaries on the Book of Revelation I am well aware of the different interpretations of the "rapture." Want an alternative to the apparent despair of "Left Behind"? Jim Isaacson gives us a view that relates the relevance of the rapture for the immediate ministry of the Church. According to Reverend Isaacson, some seemingly misguided views (especially a pre-millennial/dispensational view) take the Church out of the world when her influence is needed most. Isaacson's important perspective brings new insight to the study of our immediate future as the Church of Jesus Christ." Robert G. The short answer: No. Along with Scripture, Thigpen draws from Church history, tradition, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and contemporary experience to reveal the shortcoming of the rapture doctrine. -- adapted from back cover

Book excerpt: 'The Rapture' as believed by many today is Satan's theological horror story for end-times evangelicals, to send as many of them to hell as possible. This is the bold contention of evangelical theologian Nathanael Lewis. Building on his previous works that smashed pillar after pillar of 'Pre-Trib Left Behind' belief with detailed research in the New Testament and the early church, he presents a compelling argument that covers all the major arguments and proof texts, and much more, showing: * In an already highly praised chapter, how the covenant structure of the bible renders all need for artificial 'dispensations' utterly unnecessary, and exposes their deeply troubling theological roots* How Paul's letter to the Romans demonstrates that 'the mystery' is not something brand new and revealed only to Paul, but something thoroughly grounded in many promises in the Old Testament about Gentiles coming to worship with Israel* How all claims that Paul had a new gospel or was the herald of a separate dispensation are utterly undercut by Paul's own testimony and the account of Acts* The New Testament's theology on the vital spiritual role of suffering and Tribulation in God's plan for the church* How the bible does not teach imminence as commonly taught, but directly contradicts it in both gospels and epistles, and also the true meaning of 'thief in the night' imagery* By a detailed examination of end time phrases such as 'Day of the Lord' through the whole Bible that dispenational interpretations are badly adrift* The key to understanding the structure of Revelation in relation to the wrath of God* That at the core of the Left Behind teaching is a heretical position that is designed to deceive evangelicals in such a way as to be vulnerable to last-days apostasy and therefore eternal damnation.Along the way he shows that treasured evangelical doctrines about salvation, eternal life and Judgement Day are very different to the true New Testament teaching.Nathanael Lewis is a sinner saved by grace, a theologian with an MTheol (Hons) from St Andrews University, poet, composer and pianist and expert on the situation of Christians in Pakistan.A minimum of 6% of the sale price of this book will go to charities and NGOs, mainly those helping persecuted Pakistani and/or Middle Eastern Christians

Book excerpt: The Rapture Trap is a small but dynamic work which details the scriptural evidence beyond a doubt that the Rapture and Second Coming are one and the same event, and further that the tribulation period and millennium are non-existent in scripture. The evidence is not just merely given, but offered in a manner of courtroom style presentation which demands attention to the details. This book may not change your position, but it will change the way you defend your position.

Book excerpt: Fantasy screenwriters in the 21st century have nothing on Satan when it comes to putting together heroes and humans. Satan skillfully blends sinister villany, persecution, murder, and one charismatic, two-faced 'savior' with the miraculous. In his ongoing efforts to ensure billions of humans share his eternal fate, Satan coyly threads an ingenious trap into the 21 Judgements God promises to send upon an unrepentant human race in the Last Days. It's all right there in the Book of Revelation. Destruction, Death, 666, Nature gone amuck, Miracles, Global Governance, Warfare, bait/trap, Massive Earthquakes and the Promise of an escape. For who and how much? Well, that IS the question!. Sound fantastical? It's 100% true. AND... Coming Soon to a Newscast Near You! And way too many people know zip about these Biblical predictions. This enjoyable explanation describes the trap's blueprint and enticing bait Satan uses during the Last Days of Mankind as humans face a planet on fire, global devastation, physical torment, contaminated rivers and the death of 1 out of 3. So grab coffee or a soda, pull up a chair, and turn the page. I'm keeping it short. For those that hate long books.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This powerful and timely book, written by a former Fundamentalist, is a thorough critique of the popular Fundamentalist notion of the "Rapture", the belief that Christians will be removed from earth prior to a time of Tribulation and the Second Coming. It examines the theological, historical, and Biblical basis for "premillennial dispensationalism", the belief system based around the Rapture, and popularized in the best-selling Left Behind books and taught by "Bible prophecy" writers Tim LaHaye, Hal Lindsey, Jack Van Impe, and many others. Written for both the lay person and the serious student, this book combines an engaging, popular approach with detailed footnotes and exhaustive research. Beginning with the big picture, it focuses first on key concepts such as eschatology, the Parousia, and the relationship between the Kingdom and the Church. It then examines the Book of Revelation, providing insights into the nature and purpose of that difficult, final book of the Bible. Another chapter looks at the concept of the "millennium" and how it has been understood by various Christians over the centuries. Olson then shows how Left Behind creator LaHayeಙs many works on "Bible prophecy" are filled with attacks on Catholicism, and often rely on sensationalism, shaky scholarship, and subjective interpretations of Scripture Olson, a former dispensationalist who now edits Envoy magazine, also presents a history of apocalyptic belief and theology, beginning with the Early Church Fathers and including the Montanists, St. Augustine, Joachim of Fiore, the Protestant Reformers, and the American Puritans. He shows how John Nelson Darby, an ex-Anglican priest, developed the premillennial dispensationalist system, which hinges on the Rapture, in the 1830s and how Darby relied upon faulty assumptions about Jesus Christ, the Church, and the Bible. The second part of the book, "A Catholic Critique of Dispensationalism", focuses on three important topics: the relationship between Israel, the Church, and the Kingdom; the interpretation of Scripture; and the nature of the Rapture event. Filled with a wealth of information drawn from both Protestant and Catholic sources, this section provides a complete rebuttal to the premillennial dispensationalist system and the "left behind" theology. The book concludes with a reflection on the Catholic understanding of the end times, salvation history, and the final judgement. Glossaries of key persons and terms are also included. A strong, but fair, critique of a dangerous and popular belief, Will Catholics Be "Left Behind"? provides Catholics and Protestants, lay people and clergy, and students and scholars with important answers and information about the roots and meaning of the "Rapture". "Millions of Americans believe the Lord will snatch them up any day now, leaving the rest of us to the horrors of a seven-year tribulation. The hitch is that the 'Rapture' has no pedigree. As Carl Olson shows, no Catholic or Protestant believed in it prior to the nineteenth century. It is an authentic Fundamentalist 'invention'." Karl Keating, Author, Catholicism and Fundamentalism "In this extraordinary book, Carl Olson uses a surgeonಙs scalpel to cut through the mass of confusion that dominates contemporary reflection on the Last Things. Achieving far more than a refutation of millennialist errors and other disordered apocalyptic theories, he illumines the Church's majestic vision of time and eternity and demonstrates that Jesus Christ is the Lord of History and its end." Book excerpt: For nearly two centuries, a cancer has been eating away at biblical truth. That can be said in many fields, but there is one cancer that is particularly chameleon-like in that it masquerades as supremely biblical, and condemns all other views as deficient - the belief in a so-called 'Pre-Tribulation' rapture. Its proponents wield a huge array of atomized proof texts and seemingly biblical concepts such as 'imminence', and carry the popular conservative evangelical culture with them. Here theologian Nathanael Lewis, who has written three extensively researched books on the subject - * 'Rapture Rupture: The Big Lie behind 'Left Behind' Exposed' * 'Falsifying the Fathers' * 'The Rapture Trap' ... offers a short, simple but not simplistic work that examines three key passages as a whole, plus one bible verse that together show the real Rapture teaching of the Bible, one that is the complete opposite of the 'Left Behind' heresy, and that has real, eternal implications for Christians living in the last days. He shows how Paul in his letters to the Thessalonians follows in detail the teaching of Jesus in Matthew 24, and also how the very first thing Jesus did in teaching his disciples about the last days was to warn against false teachers preaching 'imminence' - which is the beating heart of the Pre-Tribulation doctrine. In fact, Jesus' warning about such teachers was simple: 'Do not be deceived ... Do not follow them.' It is time we heeded Jesus' warning, and this book is a great place to start. Nathanael Lewis is a sinner saved by grace, a flawed but loved adopted son of the Heavenly Father, a theologian, a poet, a musician and composer, and a human rights activist and champion for persecuted Pakistani Christians. You can find more about his work at www.natlewis.co.uk. At least 2.5% of profits from this book will go to help persecuted Christians, mainly in Pakistan or the Middle East.

Book excerpt: Christian doctrine teaches that one day in the unforeseen future, Jesus Christ is going to appear in the clouds above the earth; and with a shout, he is going to rapture (catch up) all Christians! Then in a moment, they are going to rise and join Jesus in the air, and then be taken to heaven, where they will forever be with the Lord. This English word rapture is a translation of the Latin word Rapiemur, which also is a substitute for the Greek word harpazo, which means "to be caught up" which is taken from Paul's letter to the Thessalonians, referring to the fact that Jesus is going to 'catch up' all Christians living and dead! It is also possible that the use of the term Rapture in describing this event, was used, because in the English language, Rapture means an intense feeling of pleasure or joy! This Rapture theory was first championed in the early 1800s by a Protestant clergyman by the name of John Darby, who was recovering from an illness. And while studying his Bible, came upon the realization that Jesus was going to first come for his saints, take them to heaven, and then, sometime later, Jesus was going to return to earth, defeat Satan, and then the end of the world was going to come about! It is this theory that has been taught to Christian church goers throughout the ensuing years. And with this rapture, there is a secondary teaching that when Jesus comes for his people, there will be many airplanes, trains, and automobiles that will be driver/pilot-less and will go crashing to the ground, killing untold millions all over the globe. It is with this information in mind that we explore the truth of this Rapture theory and if what John Darby taught is true or not. We will look at all the relevant scriptures pertaining to this theory, which then brings us to look at God's seven annual holy days. Why, because these days reflect the plan of God for the redemption of all mankind and points us toward this day of rapture! Therefore, the object of this book is not to titillate you about Jesus' secret coming as others have done, nor to scare you if you were to be left behind! No, the purpose of this book is to teach you the truth of what really happens when this day finally arrives! In addition, it is important to understand what exactly is salvation, and this rapture theory definitely pertains to your salvation! Therefore, you deserve to know the truth because everything else takes you away from God, and it is the truth that will set you free! --Peter

Book excerpt: The end-times error that leaves the Bible behind! Author David Currie grew up convinced that one day all true Christians will suddenly be snatched up to heaven. The unfortunate souls left behind by this "rapture" will endure seven horrible years of tribulation, at the end of which Christ will return to earth for a glorious thousand-year reign. Today, millions of Christians accept this end-times theology, assuming - as Currie did -- that the Bible clearly teaches it. Many plan their whole lives around it. But, after studying Scripture for decades, Currie has come to see that if you accept the Bible, you have to reject the rapture. In these remarkable pages - which constitute the world's most careful and thorough scriptural study of the rapture - Currie demonstrates why. He considers all the relevant verses (and there are hundreds!) and examines them in the light of ancient history, the writings of the earliest Christians, and the claims of rapturist theologians. With painstaking thoroughness, he unlocks the meanings of the key biblical prophecies that culminate in Christ's Messianic Kingdom - including those verses in Daniel, Matthew, and Revelation that rapturists turn to most. Marshalling evidence that's as startling as it is compelling, Currie argues that these prophecies of war and tribulation don't point to some still-unrealized apocalyptic future. Rather, most of them were fulfilled long ago: the spiritual, priestly Kingdom prefigured in the Old Testament was inaugurated on Calvary, consummated in 70 A.D. with the destruction of the Temple, and continues to exist today . . . in the Catholic Church! That may surprise you. Yet, shows Currie, it's the only conclusion that fits all the scriptural and historical evidence. Rapture: The End-Times Error That Leaves the Bible Behind makes Scripture, prophecy, and history come alive; and it demonstrates that if you open your Bible, you'll find that God's plan for the future of the world is not filled with darkness and disaster, but with light, mercy, and hope. "We can all learn much from David Currie, not only from what he says, which is wise, but from how he says it, which is Catholic and Christian." From the Foreword by Scott Hahn. Special features: Over 1,300 references to Scripture, the early Church Fathers, authors and events in ancient history, and contemporary rapturist theologians Ten detailed timelines relating biblical prophecy to key historical events The biblical case for the rapture (showing why so many accept it) A survey of the thoughts of the early Church Fathers about the end-times A history of the development of rapturist theories, showing how this heresy has been refuted time and again by the Church A short course in the proper methods of reading Scripture A survey of end-times hypotheses from the first century through 9/11/2001 Nine ground rules you must follow if you are to make sense of biblical prophecy and relate it to salvation history A 10-page annotated bibliography of rapturist sources ancient and new Plus, much more to help you understand and evaluate the claims of rapturists Among the sources cited: Julius Africanus • St. Athanasius • St. Augustine • Pope Benedict XV • Andreas of Cappadocia • St. Clement of Alexandria • G. He's manipulating them. Most deaths in the tribulation will not be at the hands of the Antichrist (Rev. 6:8, 9:13-15, 18).Most Christians who die in the Great Tribulation will not be martyred/beheaded (Rev. 6:8, 9:18).The mark of the beast will affect the merchants not the consumers (Rev. 18:3, 11, 15, 21).The consequences for refusing the mark of the beast is not death (Rev. 13:16-17) but restriction from participating in the Antichrist's one-world commerce system wherein all the participates will become rich. One will not be forced to choose between salvation and starvation (Matt. 6:25, 31, 33).A single act of taking the mark of the beast is just as forgivable in the tribulation as tattoos of Satan are today. (See the combination of unforgivable acts of worship in Revelation 14:9-11.)Many will worship the beast or his image or take his mark and be forgiven. It's the combination of those three acts that's unforgivable. (See the same principle in Romans 10:9 as it applies to eternal life.)Those who miss the rapture are not at the mercy of the Antichrist (Rom. 5:20).The word of God and the Holy Spirit are both present during the tribulation (Matt. 24:35; John14:16-17, 26).Salvation will be just as accessible in the tribulation as it is in the church dispensation (Matt. 18:20, 24:3; Heb. 13:5; Rev. 7:4, 11:3, 14:6).The opening of the seals is not God releasing his judgment in the Great Tribulation but the consequences of humanities accumulated behavior (Gal. 6:7).Satan does not have the authority ability or power to give life to anything (John 10:9-10; Acts 17:25-26, 28).The terms "before the foundation of the world," "predestination," "the Lamb's Book of Life" are all expressing the eternal state. Eliminate either of these conditions or positions from the plane of salvation, and there's no eternal life These terms are never associated with sin or sinners (Rom. 8:29; Eph. 1:5, 11; Rev. 13:8, 17:8, 21:9, 27).

Book excerpt: This book explains in great detail and exceptional clarity the issues related to the rapture of the Church, the government of the Antichrist, the great tribulation and all the apocalyptic judgments which God will pour out upon the wicked world. The rapture of the Church will bring about the global collapse of the economic, political and religious institutions of the world. At that moment of monumental crisis, humanity will quickly look for a leader willing to put the world back together, offer them peace and security. The world will host a false prince of peace called the Antichrist. He will elate the masses by telling them what they want to hear. However, he will push humanity to the deepest levels of degradation, vice, immorality, crime, war, violence, and rebellion against God. He will corrupt the social and moral order and as a result, billions of people will die. He will plunge the world into spiritual darkness and lead humanity astray. The Antichrists empire shall devour the whole earth trample it and break it in pieces (Daniel 7:23 NKJV). This will be a period characterized by widespread wars which will bring death to billions of people: For in those days there will be tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the creation which God created until this time, nor ever shall be (Mark 13:19 NKJV). During this period, 25 and 33 per cent of the world population will die in two major wars. If these conflicts were to happen in our time, 3.56 billion people would die. However, before the Antichrist begins, God will take out of this world, all those who believe in Christ. Seven years later, the Lord Jesus will return to destroy those who destroy the earth (Rev. 11:18b) and establish His everlasting kingdom on Earth. Then, The wolf and the lamb shall feed together. The lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust shall be the serpents food. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, says the LORD (Isaiah 65:25 NKJV).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will show an understanding of the Bible, some "doom and gloom" but not entirely, a must read. Feed on His Word, to be victorious in the battle. All soldiers go to Boot camp. The word "revelation" in Greek means "unveiling" of hidden things only revealed by God. Revelation is our armour, power for the time of judgment. We must put on the whole armour of God to defeat Satan. Without armour we will be destroyed. The Word is our sword. "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children." (Ho. 4: 6) In the beginning of Revelation, His Word states, "Blessed is he that readeth and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand." (Rev. 1: 3) Revelation is the book in the Bible that contains a special promise to obedient readers and at the same time pronounces a curse upon those who tamper with its contents. Obedience will bring us reward, and disobedience the wrath of God in the last days. Jesus said, "If you love me, pick up your cross and follow me daily." Book excerpt: At the turn of this century, Tim Lahaye and Jerry Jenkins published their famous Left Behind series, with the underlying plot that Jesus would abruptly appear in the sky and “rapture” (catch away) His church just prior to the worldwide “Tribulation.” Throughout this seven-year period of Tribulation, the main characters who are “left behind” find themselves in a survival struggle under the hideous rule of the Antichrist, as they earnestly await another appearance of Jesus at the end of the Tribulation – clinging to the hope that they will get another chance to be saved. This fictitious story is based on the predominant prophetic teachings that have been widely accepted as orthodoxy among many non-Catholic denominations. But just how accurate are these conclusions when measured up to the Word of God? What does the Bible really say about the Rapture and the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? In Except the Lord Build the House, author Norm Eberly constructs a doctrinal house from the ground up, using the literal renderings of various passages from the Bible as a foundation. Throughout its pages, the reader is urged not to apply “mystical interpretations” to Biblical prophecies, but rather to simply read the Word of God at face value in order to arrive at sound, logical conclusions. Later in the book, numerous prophetic interpretations are introduced for the reader to ponder – but only after a firm foundation that is based on the literal wordings of the Holy Scriptures has been established. Written for scholars, students, and novice Bible readers alike, and with over 100 colorful charts and illustrations, this book offers a fresh approach to the study of Biblical prophecies for the endtime and presents a bold challenge to the status-quo of popular Evangelical teachings concerning the Rapture and the Lord’s imminent return.
