Lohr (SDA; 2022, CRC Press), shows how to use the survey selection and analysis procedures of SAS® software to perform calculations for the examples in SDA. No prior experience with SAS software is needed. Chapter 1 tells you how to access the software, introduces basic features, and helps you get started with analyzing data. Each subsequent chapter provides step-by-step guidance for working through the data examples in the corresponding chapter of SDA, with code, output, and interpretation. Tips and warnings help you develop good programming practices and avoid common survey data analysis errors. Features of the SAS software procedures are introduced as they are needed so you can see how each type of sample is selected and analyzed. Each chapter builds on the knowledge developed earlier for simpler designs; after finishing the book, you will know how to use SAS software to select and analyze almost any type of probability sample. All code is available on the book website and is easily adapted for your own survey data analyses. The website also contains all data sets from the examples and exercises in SDA to help you develop your skills through analyzing survey data from social and public opinion research, public health, crime, education, business, agriculture, and ecology

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design quality SAS software and evaluate SAS software quality SAS Data Analytic Development is the developer’s compendium for writing better-performing software and the manager’s guide to building comprehensive software performance requirements. The text introduces and parallels the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) software product quality model, demonstrating 15 performance requirements that represent dimensions of software quality, including: reliability, recoverability, robustness, execution efficiency (i.e., speed), efficiency, scalability, portability, security, automation, maintainability, modularity, readability, testability, stability, and reusability. The text is intended to be read cover-to-cover or used as a reference tool to instruct, inspire, deliver, and evaluate software quality. A common fault in many software development environments is a focus on functional requirements—the what and how—to the detriment of performance requirements, which specify instead how well software should function (assessed through software execution) or how easily software should be maintained (assessed through code inspection). Without the definition and communication of performance requirements, developers risk either building software that lacks intended quality or wasting time delivering software that exceeds performance objectives—thus, either underperforming or gold-plating, both of which are undesirable. Managers, customers, and other decision makers should also understand the dimensions of software quality both to define performance requirements at project outset as well as to evaluate whether those objectives were met at software completion. As data analytic software, SAS transforms data into information and ultimately knowledge and data-driven decisions. Not surprisingly, data quality is a central focus and theme of SAS literature; however, code quality is far less commonly described and too often references only the speed or efficiency with which software should execute, omitting other critical dimensions of software quality. SAS® software project definitions and technical requirements often fall victim to this paradox, in which rigorous quality requirements exist for data and data products yet not for the software that undergirds them. By demonstrating the cost and benefits of software quality inclusion and the risk of software quality exclusion, stakeholders learn to value, prioritize, implement, and evaluate dimensions of software quality within risk management and project management frameworks of the software development life cycle (SDLC). Thus, SAS Data Analytic Development recalibrates business value, placing code quality on par with data quality, and performance requirements on par with functional requirements.

Book excerpt: Learn to program SAS by example! Learning SAS by Example, A Programmer’s Guide, Second Edition, teaches SAS programming from very basic concepts to more advanced topics. Because most programmers prefer examples rather than reference-type syntax, this book uses short examples to explain each topic. The second edition has brought this classic book on SAS programming up to the latest SAS version, with new chapters that cover topics such as PROC SGPLOT and Perl regular expressions. This book belongs on the shelf (or e-book reader) of anyone who programs in SAS, from those with little programming experience who want to learn SAS to intermediate and even advanced SAS programmers who want to learn new techniques or identify new ways to accomplish existing tasks. In an instructive and conversational tone, author Ron Cody clearly explains each programming technique and then illustrates it with one or more real-life examples, followed by a detailed description of how the program works. The text is divided into four major sections: Getting Started, DATA Step Processing, Presenting and Summarizing Your Data, and Advanced Topics. Subjects addressed include Reading data from external sources Learning details of DATA step programming Subsetting and combining SAS data sets Understanding SAS functions and working with arrays Creating reports with PROC REPORT and PROC TABULATE Getting started with the SAS macro language Leveraging PROC SQL Generating high-quality graphics Using advanced features of user-defined formats and informats Restructuring SAS data sets Working with multiple observations per subject Getting started with Perl regular expressions You can test your knowledge and hone your skills by solving the problems at the end of each chapter.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data Analysis Using SAS offers a comprehensive core text focused on key concepts and techniques in quantitative data analysis using the most current SAS commands and programming language. The coverage of the text is more evenly balanced among statistical analysis, SAS programming, and data/file management than any available text on the market. It provides students with a hands-on, exercise-heavy method for learning basic to intermediate SAS commands while understanding how to apply statistics and reasoning to real-world problems. Designed to be used in order of teaching preference by instructor, the book is comprised of two primary sections: the first half of the text instructs students in techniques for data and file managements such as concatenating and merging files, conditional or repetitive processing of variables, and observations. The second half of the text goes into great depth on the most common statistical techniques and concepts - descriptive statistics, correlation, analysis of variance, and regression - used to analyze data in the social, behavioral, and health sciences using SAS commands. A student study at www.sagepub.com/pengstudy comes replete with a multitude of computer programs, their output, specific details on how to check assumptions, as well as all data sets used in the book. Data Analysis Using SAS is a complete resource for Data Analysis I and II, Statistics I and II, Quantitative Reasoning, and SAS Programming courses across the social and behavioral sciences and health - especially those that carry a lab component.

Book excerpt: "The level is appropriate for an upper-level undergraduate or graduate-level statistics major. Sampling: Design and Analysis (SDA) will also benefit a non-statistics major with a desire to understand the concepts of sampling from a finite population. A student with patience to delve into the rigor of survey statistics will gain even more from the content that SDA offers. The updates to SDA have potential to enrich traditional survey sampling classes at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The new discussions of low response rates, non-probability surveys, and internet as a data collection mode hold particular value, as these statistical issues have become increasingly important in survey practice in recent years... I would eagerly adopt the new edition of SDA as the required textbook." (Emily Berg, Iowa State University) What is the unemployment rate? What is the total area of land planted with soybeans? How many persons have antibodies to the virus causing COVID-19? Sampling: Design and Analysis, Third Edition shows you how to design and analyze surveys to answer these and other questions. This authoritative text, used as a standard reference by numerous survey organizations, teaches the principles of sampling with examples from social sciences, public opinion research, public health, business, agriculture, and ecology. Readers should be familiar with concepts from an introductory statistics class including probability and linear regression; optional sections contain statistical theory for readers familiar with mathematical statistics. The third edition, thoroughly revised to incorporate recent research and applications, includes a new chapter on nonprobability samples—when to use them and how to evaluate their quality. More than 200 new examples and exercises have been added to the already extensive sets in the second edition. SDA’s companion website contains data sets, computer code, and links to two free downloadable supplementary books (also available in paperback) that provide step-by-step guides—with code, annotated output, and helpful tips—for working through the SDA examples. Instructors can use either R or SAS® software. SAS® Software Companion for Sampling: Design and Analysis, Third Edition by Sharon L.
