Book Synopsis Expert Decision Making on Opioid Treatment by : Jane Ballantyne
Download or read book Expert Decision Making on Opioid Treatment written by Jane Ballantyne and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2013-01-29 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last several decades opioid treatment for chronic pain has become increasingly popular. From the sense that chronic pain had previously been undertreated, to drug companies anxious to sell new "designer" opioids, usage has increased several-fold. In its unfortunate history non-specialists were persuaded to prescribe opioids before they could possibly understand the complexity of the treatment. So great were the pressures to prescribe, opioids were prescribed indiscriminately. It became almost impossible to deny opioids without seeming inhumane. While carefully selected and managed opioid therapy can benefit certain patients, casual use fails in several respects. A vast educational effort is needed to help clinicians understand the complexities of opioid therapy. Expert Decision Making on Opioid Treatment explains to readers how to select patients, and subsequently manage and monitor, so as to achieve continued efficacy without losing control of pain and drug use. This book aims to provide clinicians with expert opinion on how to manage common scenarios involving opioid management of chronic pain. It will provide the reader not only with an easy reference to the management of common clinical scenarios where opioids are involved, but also with in depth analysis of the difficult issues surrounding a treatment that is both uniquely effective and potentially harmful.

Book Synopsis Congenital Diseases and Syndromes by : Jarrah Ali Al-Tubaikh
Download or read book Congenital Diseases and Syndromes written by Jarrah Ali Al-Tubaikh and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-06-13 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radiology to me is an art more than a science; an art of imaging the human body, and an art of extracting information from an image. Radiology today is a vital specialty that almost no other medical specialty can work without. Congenital anomalies and syndromes are complex subjects in all medical specialties. They require knowledge of the normal anatomy and of the embryological basis of organogenesis. The importance of recognizing a congenital malformation or an anomaly, which can be the tip of an iceberg of a more complex syndrome, is to prevent future manifestations of a s- drome if possible or to reduce its severity. Due to this concept, I had an interest in studying how to use the radiological modalities in diagnosing congenital malfor- tions as early as possible. Although radiology offers very powerful tools for diag- sis, the basics of medicine are still the main tools to be used for diagnosis. History, observation, clinical examination, and laboratory investigations are essential elements for diagnosis, which need to be used before radiology investigations are initiated. The idea of this book is based on a simple principle: it is to link radiology to these basic medical tools. The book is written for junior radiologists, radiology students, and doctors interested in congenital malformations and syndromes in any specialty. Each disease is represented with a de? nition, description, etiology, diagnostic cri- ria, main symptoms, and its typical diagnostic radiological features on the modern radiological modalities available today.

This book was released on 2009-08-21 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Detection and characterization of bone tumors with imaging remains a big challenge for every radiologist notwithstanding the impressive progress achieved by the introduction of several new imaging modalities. Moreover, new concepts in surgical and oncological treatment of these lesions require from the radiologist appropriate and focused answers to the specifc questions asked by the referring physicians in order to choose the best therapeutic approach for the in- vidual patient. Tis comprehensive textbook describes in detail the possibilities and limits of all moda- ties, including MRI, CT, nuclear medicine and interventional radiological procedures, employed for the modern imaging of tumoral and tumor-like lesions of bone. Teir role in the diagnosis, surgical staging, biopsy and assessment of response to therapy is discussed in detail, covering all tumor subtypes as well as their specifc anatomical location.Well selected and technically imp- cable illustrations strongly enhance the didactic value of this work. Book Synopsis Neutrophilic Dermatoses by : Daniel Wallach
Download or read book Neutrophilic Dermatoses written by Daniel Wallach and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-02 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an in depth overview of Neutrophilic Dermatoses, a group of diseases that includes Sweet’s syndrome, pyoderma gangrenosum and subcorneal pustular dermatosis. Although there are still some gaps in the knowledge, it is now clear that their pathophysiology implies that mechanisms associated with auto-inflammation are involved, while many of these dermatoses occur in the setting of other systemic inflammatory diseases (colitis, arthritis) and of malignancies (blood malignancies, solid cancers). As such it is an important area of study within internal medicine. Neutrophilic Dermatoses represents an extensive clinical review of the group of diseases and is a critical resource for all medical professionals managing these patients, including clinicians in dermatology, gastro-enterology,, rheumatology, hematology, and internal medicine.
