Download or read book National Survey Results on Drug Use from the Monitoring the Future Study, 1975-1998. Volume II written by Lloyd Johnston and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second volume, in a two-volume set reporting the results from the Monitoring the Future study, presents the results of the 1977 through 1998 follow-up surveys of the graduating high school classes of 1976 through 1997 as they have progressed through young adulthood. This current study, which draws the college sample in the senior year of high school, has considerable advantages for generating a broadly representative sample of the college students to emerge from each graduating cohort. It has "before, during, and after" college measures, which permit the examination of change. It also has similar panel data on the high school graduates who did not attend college. In order for this volume to stand alone, some material from Volume I is repeated. Chapters 2 and 3 in this volume are the same as Chapters 2 and 3 in Volume I, since one provides an overview of the key findings and the other explains the study's design and procedures. Chapter titles include: (1) "Introduction of Volume II"; (2) "Overview of Key Findings"; (3) "Study Design and Procedures"; (4) "Prevalence of Drug Use among Young Adults"; (5) "Trends in Drug Use among Young Adults"; (6) "Attitudes and Beliefs about Drugs among Young Adults"; (7) "The Social Milieu for Young Adults"; (8) "Prevalence of Drug Use among College Students"; and (9) "Trends in Drug Use among College Students." (Contains 30 tables and 66 figures.) (JDM)

This book was released on 2009-08-12 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Capitol Complex in Washington, D.C., comprises some of the most historic and symbolic buildings in the nation. The steam and chilled water required to heat and cool these buildings and related equipment is generated and distributed by the Capitol Power Plant (CPP) district energy system. Portions of the CPP system are now 50 to 100 years old and require renewal so that reliable utility services can be provided to the U.S. Capitol Complex for the foreseeable future. Evaluation of Future Strategic and Energy Efficient Options for the U.S. Capitol Power Plant provides comments on an interim set of publicly available consultant-generated options for the delivery of utility services to the U.S. Capitol Complex. The report provides recommendations to bring the interim options to completion, including suggestions for additional analyses, so that the CPP can be best positioned to meet the future strategic and energy efficiency requirements of the U.S. Capitol Complex.

Book Synopsis Finite Population Sampling and Inference by : Richard Valliant
Download or read book Finite Population Sampling and Inference written by Richard Valliant and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 2000-09-08 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complete coverage of the prediction approach to survey sampling in a single resource Prediction theory has been extremely influential in survey sampling for nearly three decades, yet research findings on this model-based approach are scattered in disparate areas of the statistical literature. Finite Population Sampling and Inference: A Prediction Approach presents for the first time a unified treatment of sample design and estimation for finite populations from a prediction point of view, providing readers with access to a wealth of theoretical results, including many new results and, a variety of practical applications. Geared to theoretical statisticians and practitioners alike, the book discusses all topics from the ground up and clearly explains the relation of the prediction approach to the traditional design-based randomization approach. Key features include: * Special emphasis on linking survey sampling to mainstream statistics through extensive use of general linear models * A liberal use of simulation studies, numerical examples, and exercises illustrating theoretical results * Numerous statistical graphics showing simulation results and properties of estimates * A library of S-Plus computer functions plus six real populations, available via ftp * Over 260 references to finite population sampling, linear models, and other relevant literature
Book Synopsis Realizing the Information Future by : National Research Council
Download or read book Realizing the Information Future written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1994-02-01 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The potential impact of the information superhighwayâ€"what it will mean to daily work, shopping, and entertainmentâ€"is of concern to nearly everyone. In the rush to put the world on-line, special issues have emerged for researchers, educators and students, and library specialists. At the same time, the research and education communities have a valuable head start when it comes to understanding computer communications networks, particularly Internet. With its roots in the research community, the Internet computer network now links tens of millions of people and extends well into the commercial world. Realizing the Information Future is written by key players in the development of Internet and other data networks. The volume highlights what we can learn from Internet and how the research, education, and library communities can take full advantage of the information highway's promised reach through time and space. This book presents a vision for the proposed national information infrastructure (NII): an open data network sending information services of all kinds, from suppliers of all kinds, to customers of all kinds, across network providers of all kinds. Realizing the Information Future examines deployment issues for the NII in light of the proposed system architecture, with specific discussion of the needs of the research and education communities. What is the role of the "institution" when everyone is online in their homes and offices? What are the consequences when citizens can easily access legal, medical, educational, and government services information from a single system? These and many other important questions are explored. The committee also looks at the development of principles to address the potential for abuse and misuse of the information highway, covering: Equitable and affordable access to the network. Reasonable approaches to controlling the rising tide of electronic information. Rights and responsibilities relating to freedom of expression, intellectual property, individual privacy, and data security. Realizing the Information Future includes a wide-ranging discussion of costs, pricing, and federal funding for network development and a discussion of the federal role in making the best technical choices to ensure that the expected social and economic benefits of the NII are realized. The time for the research and education communities to have their say about the information highway is before the ribbon is cut. Realizing the Information Future provides a timely, readable, and comprehensive exploration of key issuesâ€"important to computer scientists and engineers, researchers, librarians and their administrators, educators, and individuals interested in the shape of the information network that will soon link us all.
