Book Synopsis Prayerfully Yours by : Benjamin Vima
Download or read book Prayerfully Yours written by Benjamin Vima and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-01-09 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The truth on the Power of Prayer is Biblical, historical and experiential. Every religion recognizes it; every human that needs support to rise up and walk, to think positively and live fruitfully will testify to the usefulness of prayer. The Biblical testimony on the efficacy of prayer is: As Gods Word will not return to Him void but shall achieve the end for which He sent it (Is. 55: 11), so the prayer of the lowly does not rest till it reaches its goal. (Sir. 35: 17-18) The author of this book, having been a prey of such powerful tool in the Vineyard of the Lord, shares his personal and experiential thoughts and convictions about prayer. According to him only through prayer humans can build up and manage a qualitylife as the disciples of Jesus. Through this book he shares with readers some of his findings of the method of qualityprayer which is simple but productive, containing little nuance but with admiration of existing Traditions, and exclusive with its unique approach to prayer but inclusive of all possible saints efforts over the centuries in praying fruitfully. The author compares qualityprayer-process to the walking through inside portions of a Catholic Church building. He tries to walk with us through the four phases of qualityprayer and make us perceive clearly our actions and Gods own as well, at each phase. The book asserts that though prayer is not a resource and support in the natural process of human development, it is by all means an indispensable source and basis for developing a matured Christian personality. However, mere formal or traditional prayer would do no good in this regard. It would help keeping up our status quo. It will not contribute much to our growth of Christian personality. Even the prayer of the intellect, namely prayerful meditation or reflection would not do that much help, as it should. This kind of prayer would meet its immature death as I had gone through sometime back. Once the intellect gets more truths and facts about life, God, religion and universe it would surely put a full stop to any kind of prayer. But if the same prayer is experiential and personal, the author writes, if it is intensively connecting the soul to its God, the Ground of being, the Beyond of everything, if it accelerates the process of intimacy between the human and the Divine, then surely prayer becomes the primary source of change, growth and development in human personality and through him/her influences the entire universe. This is what happened in Jesus and so in His disciples and godly people of today. I dare to name this kind of prayer as QualityPrayer.

Book Synopsis Saints for the Sick by : Joan Carroll Cruz
Download or read book Saints for the Sick written by Joan Carroll Cruz and published by TAN Books. This book was released on 2010 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this intriguing new book, bestselling author Joan Carroll Cruz presents 76 mini-biographies highlighting saintly Catholics who faced intense, long-term suffering and disability with sweetness, peace and love for Jesus Christ. These stories show the triumph of God's grace where the world finds only ugliness and approaching death. They describe some lives so recent that the saint's family members are still living today, with many causes for canonization being currently active in Rome. Included here are Bl. Zelie Martin, who died of breast cancer; 14-year-old Bl. Isidore Bakanja, the Scapular martyr from Africa; the famous leper priest, St. Damien of Molokai; Venerable Matthew Talbot, the alcoholic; St. Germaine Cousin, rejected because of a birth defect; and little Nennolina Meo, who died from cancer of the bone, lungs and brain. Also included are persons who suffered from paralysis, amputation, deformities, breathing problems, mental illnesses, kidney ailments, intestinal disorders, and more as well as from medical treatment itself. Particularly remarkable are the children who suffered, including young people ages 15, 13, 12, 11 and even 6 ! For these there was no grasping at the remnants of earthly life but rather an eager anticipation of Heaven. These children showed unwavering resolve to suffer for the love of God and the conversion of sinners and they endeavored to console their parents. SAINTS FOR THE SICK is a book that reinforces our Catholic faith and gives renewed hope to those who are dealing with bodily struggles. Moreover, it puts us in touch with heavenly intercessors who will gladly help us for they know exactly what we are going through on earth. Includes an Index of Ailments.

Book Synopsis History of the Triumphs of Our Holy Faith Amongst the Most Barbarous and Fierce Peoples of the New World by : AndrŽs PŽrez de Ribas
Download or read book History of the Triumphs of Our Holy Faith Amongst the Most Barbarous and Fierce Peoples of the New World written by AndrŽs PŽrez de Ribas and published by University of Arizona Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 778 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considered by historian Herbert E. Bolton to be one of the greatest books ever written in the West, AndrŽs PŽrez de Ribas's history of the Jesuit missions provides unusual insight into Spanish and Indian relations during the colonial period in Northern New Spain. First published in Madrid in 1645, it traces the history of the missions from 1591 to 1643 and includes letters from Jesuit annual reports and other correspondence, much of which has never been found or cataloged in historical archives. Daniel T. Reff, Maureen Ahern, and Richard K. Danford have now prepared the first complete, scholarly, and fully annotated edition of this important work in English. PŽrez de Ribas was the first permanent missionary to the Ahome, Zuaque, and Yaqui Indians. After fifteen years on the mission frontier he was recalled to Mexico City, where he held various posts, including Jesuit Provincial. Addressed to novitiates ignorant of the challenges they would face in the field, his Historia was a virtual textbook on missionary work in the New World. Also written to encourage ongoing support of the Jesuit missions, it reflected the author's deep grasp of what rhetorically soothed and moved Church and Crown officials. Perhaps of greatest interest to the modern reader are PŽrez de Ribas's often detailed comments on indigenous beliefs and practices. These firsthand observations provide a rich resource of ethnographic and historical data concerning everything from native subsistence, settlement patterns, and myths to the dynamics of Jesuit-Indian relations. The many cases of conversion that PŽrez de Ribas describes are especially rich in ethnographic data, clarifying the values and beliefs from which the Indians were "rescued." History of the Triumphs is a primary document of great importance, made more valuable here by an exceptionally fluid translation and painstaking annotations. It will be a standard reference for all engaged in research on New Spain and a captivating read for anyone interested in this chapter of American history.
