Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Camper Book will captivate all those who dream of waving good-bye to the rat race from the window of their own moveable home, be it a camper, RV, travel trailer, camper van, or tiny camper. Not just for placid retirees anymore, camper culture has sprung up among simplicity-seeking millennials, retro-loving "glampers," sports and movie stars, aging hippies, contract workers, "road-schoolers," and others. Award-winning journalist Dave Hoekstra hit the road in his own custom camper van, named Bluebird, to explore the history, culture, subcultures, and future of camper life. Traveling and talking his way through US campsites, RV parks, landmarks, and communities, Hoekstra draws out revealing stories from all walks of life—from Americans who are downsizing material goods while upsizing spiritual pursuits to RV enthusiasts such as Grammy-winning singer-songwriter John Prine and Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon. A modern-day Studs Terkel, Hoekstra provides a delightful mix of oral history, in-depth reporting, and practical information, while photographer Jon Sall's beautiful color photographs illuminate the unique people, places, and rigs that typify camper life.

Book excerpt: The ultimate log book for RVers who want to keep great records of where they've been! Record campground information like: Hookups available Bathhouse conditions Amenities Road Conditions Campsite conditions Management/Staff Info Booking/Cancellation Notes Local Area Notes Sightseeing Notes and A LOT more! There's even extra space to add your own notes for each site! Great for RVing in: Class A Motorhomes Class C Motorhomes Travel Trailer RV 5th Wheel RV Class B Motorhome Custom Vans This book is an amazing tool for your travel adventures. We, as full-time RVers ourselves, wanted to produce something that would actually be useful for other RV travelers. Our goal was to create a place where you can record all of the great (and sometimes not so great) notes & impressions of your camping spots as you wander about in your RV. We made this book a place to store information but also easily find those notes again later, so we incorporated an easy-to-use referencing system, organized by U.S. state (or you can fill in your own regions). This way, when you need to look back on your notes from two, three, or even 20 years later, you will be able to quickly find them. Here's how to use this book: Log Your Stays: Turn to the first log and start writing! Use our prompted notes and checkoffs to record basic information and then also add your own notes as a refresher for your memory later. We didn't make space for every possible scenario (there are so many!) So, use the extra space to write down anything you think you might want to know later. For instance, you may note more things like low/high water pressure, road noise, or management/staff names & notes. Did you spend way too much on laundry here? Make a note of it! Did you see a sasquatch walk casually through your campground on Friday night? Make a note of it! And share the picture! You did get one, right? Our Referencing System: It's so simple! Let's begin with the Site Logs. Each Site Log has a number in the corner. When you log a campsite, take a second to record that site's Log Number in the back of the book in its reference section. Most reference sections are simply a state. However, some states are larger (and more popular) than others, so we broke them down into smaller regions for even quicker reference. For instance, we've broken Texas down to 5 regions: North, West, Central, Gulf Coast & Panhandle. Maintenance Logs: In the back of the book, there are pages dedicated for recording RV maintenance. Just record the date, service performed, mileage, and any other notes there so you have that information later.

Avoiding costly and timely mistakes is crucial when embarking on the road for rv living and camping. Unfortunately just packing up and getting on the road in your rv doesn’t set you up for the enjoyable success you want as long as you’re going without any knowledge or resources to help you plan the right way or know what to be prepared for along the way. This is what i discussed in this book. • Benefits of rv life • Setting up a cost comparison • How to prepare for rv lifestyle • How to choose the right rv for your budget • How and where to find a good used rv to buy • 9 things to consider when buying an rv • How to protect your rv • For diy maintenance what tools you will need • Additional safety features you can add to your rv There’s no doubt about it — rving is one of the most popular lifestyle choices for those who are looking for an alternative way of living and working. The old brick and mortar houses have their appeal, but it’s hard to beat the freedom and adventure that life on the road provides. Think about it — you’re free to go wherever you want, whenever you want, and you can sustain this lifestyle for months for the equivalent of a single house mortgage payment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SOS is the culmination of my work since 1966, when my wife, Noel, and I moved from Melbourne, Australia, to Houston, Texas. My initial goal was to begin a four-year clinical pastoral education program (CPE) at the Institute of Religion in the Texas Medical Center. The long-term dream was to develop a parish-based lay pastoral education program to equip laypeople to serve with their ordained pastors in the pastoral ministry of the parish. Until the midnineteenth century, pastoral care was the province of parish clergy, for which few were adequately equipped. I aimed to change that model by demonstrating that laypeople with the necessary training were integral to the church's ministry. That would entail providing clergy with supervisory skills. The founder organizations of the newly constituted Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) had pioneered clergy pastoral care education in the 1920s. The Equipping Laypeople for Ministry (ELM) program, which I founded in 1979, proved effective in the dual tasks of lay pastoral care training and the preparation of clergy for their necessary function of oversight of lay pastors. Saying Our Stories is the account of the pioneering effort to undertake those tasks and demonstrate the effectiveness of the new model of parish pastoral ministry. It is a book of stories. The text suggests that pastoral care, at heart, is knowing that when a troubled person casts round for someone to listen to her (or his) story, they need a caring story-listener. Such listening is hard work, but story-listeners know that to listen is to care. If they finish up thinking, "All I did was listen," they know it is such a big all!
