Book excerpt: Excerpt from Rush County War Activities, 1861 to 1918: At Home and in the Field The above is a good likeness of Mrs. Ann Boyd Bowles, known to her legion of friends as "Aunt Ann Bowles," ninety-seven years young, and the oldest member of the Bush County Chapter of the Red Cross. She is a daughter of the late Captain John Boyd, one of the pioneers of the county, who died at the unusual age of one hundred and one. Mrs. Bowles was born in Schenectady, N. Y., February 11, 1821. She came from New York to Indiana with her family when she was five years old, traveling all the way in a "prairie schooner." They settled on the land where Bushville is situated. Later Captain Boyd moved with his family to Milroy, where he died, and where Mrs. Bowles still lives. She is in good health, and bids fair to round out a century of useful life.
