Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of three siblings who are different jungle animals each with unique characteristics. Joshua the jaguar, Tim the tiger, and Jessica the giraffe. They were playing one day in the jungle when Josh had an idea about calling all the animals together for a race. They begin to find participants wherever they go and the excitement grows. Everything is building until the snake appears casting his spell of fear boasting his win. Josh and Tim pay no attention to his chatter and during the race just playfully run in and out of the snake who has formed a wheel by holding his tale and spinning down the track. The boys take off and win when the snake hisses back at them and his wheel flattens out crashing in the middle of the race. The moral that is learned by all is about what one hears and believes which opens the door to true freedom in the lives of children.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Journal of a Poet: Roses and Ribbons is an account and reflection of high school days, thoughts, journal entries, poetry, essays, and short stories that I originally wrote to document my feelings and perspective on life at that moment in time. I have always enjoyed writing since an early age and have had diaries; however, they did not include much poetry. So I decided to write predominantly poetry in this journal that would repercuss my love for writing rhyme, free verse, sonnets, and even other avenues to express my zealous, hot-blooded, excited, or whimsical state! Though most of the entries are true, there are some fictional depictions in the book like about dating or going to the club. I was seventeen, but I was not allowed to date, furthermore, unable to go to a club of any sort. When I added these fabrications, it was just my imagination roaming free, wondering how these things would actually be like; would I enjoy them...I just calligraphically put myself there as if I was experiencing those things at that particular time. I titled the book The Journal of a Poet: Roses and Ribbons because my cousin Elizabeth Duncan gave me a journal for my birthday. This was in which I wrote in and held very dear to me because she knew I loved to write (and the cover of the journal happened to have rose petals and ribbons everywhere). I wanted to share this with the world. Though it is very personal, I think there is a lot to gain from the book. I hope you enjoy!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1974 in Kinshasa, Zaïre, two African American boxers were paid five million dollars apiece to fight each other. One was Muhammad Ali, the aging but irrepressible “professor of boxing.” The other was George Foreman, who was as taciturn as Ali was voluble. Observing them was Norman Mailer, a commentator of unparalleled energy, acumen, and audacity. Whether he is analyzing the fighters’ moves, interpreting their characters, or weighing their competing claims on the African and American souls, Mailer’s grasp of the titanic battle’s feints and stratagems—and his sensitivity to their deeper symbolism—makes this book a masterpiece of the literature of sport. Praise for The Fight “Exquisitely refined and attenuated . . . [a] sensitive portrait of an extraordinary athlete and man, and a pugilistic drama fully as exciting as the reality on which it is based.”—The New York Times “One of the defining texts of sports journalism. Not only does Mailer recall the violent combat with a scholar’s eye . . . he also makes the whole act of reporting seem as exciting as what’s occurring in the ring.”—GQ “Stylistically, Mailer was the greatest boxing writer of all time.”—Chuck Klosterman, Esquire “One of Mailer’s finest books.”—Louis Menand, The New Yorker Praise for Norman Mailer “[Norman Mailer] loomed over American letters longer and larger than any other writer of his generation.”—The New York Times “A writer of the greatest and most reckless talent.”—The New Yorker “Mailer is indispensable, an American treasure.”—The Washington Post “A devastatingly alive and original creative mind.”—Life “Mailer is fierce, courageous, and reckless and nearly everything he writes has sections of headlong brilliance.”—The New York Review of Books “The largest mind and imagination [in modern] American literature . . . Unlike just about every American writer since Henry James, Mailer has managed to grow and become richer in wisdom with each new book.”—Chicago Tribune “Mailer is a master of his craft. His language carries you through the story like a leaf on a stream.”—The Cincinnati Post

Exploring a Musical Genre provides an overview of this diverse and complex musical genre for scholars of classic rock and curious novices alike, with a focus on 50 must-hear musicians, songwriters, bands, and albums. Listen to Classic Rock! Exploring a Musical Genre explores in detail the genesis, evolution, and proliferation of classic rock. It begins with a background on the development of classic rock and its subgenres. Next, an A to Z listing of artists (musicians, songwriters, and bands), albums, important concerts, and songs; a chapter on classic rock's impact on popular culture; a chapter on classic rock's legacy; and a bibliography. This organization gives readers the choice of starting from the beginning to learn how classic rock and each of its subgenres emerged after rock and roll or skip ahead to a specific artist, recording, or song in the Must-Hear Music section. This volume stands out from other resources on classic rock for its listening-centered approach. Most books on classic rock focus on trivia, history, terminology, or criticism. It also explores the sound of the music of important artists and offers musical analyses that are accessible to upper-level high school and lower-level undergraduates while at the same time maintaining the interest of classic rock aficionados and scholars.

Your children or grandchildren will love cuddling up with you to discover how God delighted over each and every detail of their lives and personalities as He created them—from the shape of their eyes to the sound of their laughter. The Day God Made You also reminds preschoolers and elementary-aged children that God knew their families, their friends, their tears, their gifts, and even their dreams and hopes from the very beginning. This beautiful and affirming story for 4-to-8-year-olds celebrates the diverse and wonderful features God created in each of His children with Rory Feek’s moving lyrical rhymes; reminds all children—including all races and ethnicities, different abilities, and those with special needs—that God created them with purpose and love; encourages positive self-acceptance and self-esteem as children learn to be happy with themselves because God delights in who He created them to be; and is a comforting and inspiring read to share at story times or for sending children to bed with peaceful hearts. This colorful picture book with vivid illustrations from artist Malgosia Piatkowska is a great gift for Christmas, birthdays, baptisms, confirmations, adoption parties, and end-of-school-year celebrations.
