Book Synopsis Guidance for the Description of Animal Research in Scientific Publications by : National Research Council
Download or read book Guidance for the Description of Animal Research in Scientific Publications written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2011-09-16 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The publication of research articles involving animal studies is central to many disciplines in science and biomedicine. Effective descriptions in such publications enable researchers to interpret the data, evaluate and replicate findings, and move the science forward. Analyses of published studies with research animals have demonstrated numerous deficiencies in the reporting of details in research methods for animal studies. Considerable variation in the amount of information required by scientific publications and reported by authors undermines this basic scientific principle and results in the unnecessary use of animals and other resources in failed efforts to reproduce study results. Guidance for the Description of Animal Research in Scientific Publications outlines the information that should be included in scientific papers regarding the animal studies to ensure that the study can be replicated. The report urges journal editors to actively promote effective and ethical research by encouraging the provision of sufficient information. Examples of this information include: conditions of housing and husbandry, genetic nomenclature, microbial status, detailed experimental manipulations, and handling and use of pharmaceuticals. Inclusion of this information will enable assessment and interpretation of research findings and advancement of knowledge based on reproducible results.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remarkable advances in imaging have increased the importance of MRI for diagnostic, treatment and management of epilepsy. Neuroimaging of patients with epilepsy no longer simply deals with the technology and interpretation of images but also with issues of brain metabolism, energetics, cognition and brain dysfunction. The first edition of Magnetic Resonance in Epilepsy came into clinical practice in 1995 with a revolutionary idea; that is, MR is as important as EEG in the clinical management of patients with epilepsy. The second edition of Magnetic Resonance in Epilepsy, the only comprehensive text in the field of epilepsy neuroimaging, reviews fundamental concepts and new advances in MR technology, computerized analysis, MR spectroscopy, DWI and other neuroimaging techniques such as PET, SPECT and MEG application to the study of patients with epileptic disorders.*Provides a crucial update of recent advances in imaging techniques*Timely publication as subject of neuroimaging is a very "hot" area in both clinical epilepsy and basic neuroscience research*Editors are well-respected in this field

Book Synopsis Co-planar Stereotaxic Atlas of the Human Brain by : Jean Talairach
Download or read book Co-planar Stereotaxic Atlas of the Human Brain written by Jean Talairach and published by George Thieme Verlag. This book was released on 1988-01-01 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this superb atlas, the distinguished authors offer the proportional grid system of brain imaging. This unique process makes it possible to localize neuroanatomic structures not visible with traditional radiologic methods. Unlike the classic method of spatial reading, which is valid only with the particular brain under consideration, the proportional grid creates a frame of reference applicable to all brains being examined. This is especially beneficial for clinical studies, electroencephalographic investigations, and statistical computations. Special features of the book include: A full, three-dimensional atlas of the human brain A series of anatomic sections done for the frontal, horizontal, and sagittal planes Practical examples for use in neuroradiologic examinations and basal lines forming a frame of reference that defines orientation and spatial position of structures within the cerebral mass. This stereotaxic process is designed to maximize accuracy, reliability, and safety. The information in this valuable atlas is essential for all radiologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, and all specialists involved in the neurosciences. Use this practical mapping tool for understanding the pathologic processes of the human brain.

Book Synopsis Comparative Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Omnibus Legislation by : Ittai Bar-Siman-Tov
Download or read book Comparative Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Omnibus Legislation written by Ittai Bar-Siman-Tov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-05-27 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first in the world to provide a cross-national, comparative exploration of omnibus legislation. It contributes to the global debate over omnibus legislation and offers comprehensive, thorough and multifaceted coverage that concerns the fields of legislation and legisprudence, comparative law, political science, public policy and economics. Beyond its relevance for these fields, the book will support practitioners in parliaments, governments and courts, thereby impacting the actual use of omnibus legislation. A new, major and controversial reform is enacted in the middle of the night. It is buried in a massive omnibus bill hundreds of pages in length, which is rammed through the legislative process at breakneck speed. The legislators receive the final version of the bill in the very last minute, and protest that they’ve had no opportunity to read it in detail and know what they’re voting upon. The majority party’s legislative leaders, however, are unimpressed, and the law is eventually passed on the basis of strict party discipline. Though it may sound far-fetched, this scenario is all too familiar in many legislatures around the world. The legislative practice of combining numerous unrelated measures in one long bill, which is often passed via a highly expedited process, has become a matter of intense debate and criticism in many countries.
