Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rudy became the inspiration for millions when a Hollywood film depicting his journey as a Notre Dame football player became one of the most influential sports movies ever made. In Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger's only autobiography, go behind the scenes to experience the heartache, triumph, and glory through Rudy's own eyes, and learn details of the ten years it took to get the movie made. For the first time, the real Rudy shares his story of floundering through school with undiagnosed dyslexia and finding himself mixed up with a rough and rowdy crowd. "Football was my salvation in high school," Rudy believes, and while he dreamed of playing for Notre Dame, he never believed he was smart enough to make it to the elite group of higher education. A poignant and high-energy storyteller, Rudy details failures and pitfalls along the way. He explains the persistence and determination it took to get accepted to Notre Dame, to suit up and play for twenty-seven glorious seconds, and to see the dream of his movie become a reality. Rudy is truly a real-life testament to the old adage that it is not how many times you get knocked down, but how many times you get up again. He will motivate you to discover your own dreams and to them with unrelenting faith that anything is possible.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Determined Look: Stories of a Youth Football Coaching Legend" is written by Three Year Letterman, a thirty-nine-year old college dropout who lives in a Northeast Georgia. He is the coach of a youth football dynasty. Unlike many youth sports coaches, Coach Letterman angrily rejects the notion that the purpose of youth sports is to have fun. He instead adopts a win-at-all-costs approach. This sometimes involves him intentionally trying to make players quit, recruiting players that he knows are too old for the league, and "altering" residency papers. Coach Letterman is also very proud of the fact that he "rakes in $29.35 an hour plus bennies and a cell phone" and "lives in an apartment complex with a pool and computer lab." He lettered for three years in high school football at wide receiver. He still wears his letter jacket to this day and stands in the student section when he watches high school football games. He's also a rabid University of Georgia football fan who takes takes pride in the fact that he barks at opposing fans. This book includes twenty-eight chapters of Coach Letterman offering youth coaching tips and opining on a variety of topics. Topics include "How to Attend a High School Football Game and Post-Game Field Party in Style," "Turning the Local School System from Adversary to Co-Conspirator," and "How to Dominate a Deposition."

Book excerpt: The Broadway Books Library of Larceny Luc Sante, General Editor McGoorty is master billiards writer Robert Byrne’s racy account of the life of Danny McGoorty, a billiards champion of that bygone era when cue artists were often scam artists and pool rooms were held to be dens of iniquity. Hustler and hobo, womanizer and fashion plate, McGoorty was at once eyewitness to Capone’s Chicago and the feats of greats like Willie Hoppe and Willie Mosconi. In an all-American voice at once sarcastic, profane, humorous, and chock full of colorful lingo, he relates his colorful and seedy life and times with a unique style and brio.

Book excerpt: This book recounts the riveting story of Gary Tharaldson's phenomenal success in the hotel industry. Gary grew up in a small town in rural North Dakota in a loving but impoverished family. As a child, he dreamed of doing "something big." After college, he taught high school and sold insurance on the side. At 26 years of age, he founded Tharaldson Insurance Agency in Valley City, ND, and started investing in real estate, which led him to buy his first hotel there. Then "something big" happened. He started building and running hotels without partners or any formal training in the hospitality industry. To date, he has constructed more than 425 hotels (only 5 percent of them with partners) and will open his 500th hotel around 2020. Gary revolutionized hotel development and management with innovations and efficiencies that have become industry standards.

Rudy Ruettiger first overcame the odds by being accepted to the University of Notre Dame. Because he was dyslexic and got poor grades in school, he had to find another way. He continued to accomplish his dream by becoming a walk-on player for the football team, culminating in being able to dress for just one game and leading to an epic sack that has inspired generations of fans in the beloved sports movie. However, there was still so much of Rudy's story to tell. Emmy® award-winning Director and Producer Nick Nanton presents Rudy Ruettiger: The Walk On, using the full dialogue and cinematic images from the feature documentary film of the same title, to examine the Rudy story everyone knows and loves to provide further depth and detail about Rudy's past struggles and triumphs at Notre Dame, as well as what it took to get that story onto film. Furthermore, Rudy Ruettiger: The Walk On elaborates on who Rudy has become and how he still serves as an inspiration today. Whether you're looking for insider information on the actual story behind a favorite sports figure, or you're hoping to find some continued inspiration in Rudy's story, this tell-all has something special hidden amongst its pages for you.

Since we all need a little more Rudy in us, these pages are an outstanding guide for everyone involved in youth sports and everyone interested in elevating the role of sportsmanship in our communities."-Greg Aiello, Vice President of Public Relations, National Football League 'This book contains many of the lessons and values taught to me by my parents and coaches when I was growing up. They made a difference in my life, and I believe they'll make a difference in the lives of countless of kids all across America.. It's timeless."-Greg Maddox, Pitcher, Four-time winner of the Cy Young Award, Chicago Cubs Known to millions as 'the little guy with the big dream" who inspired the unforgettable motion picture "Rudy," Rudy Ruettiger is the most famous football player in the history of the University of Notre Dame. Leddy, Rudy delivers seasoned advice, timeless principles, and practical tools for young athletes, parents, and coaches in three sections: In the young athletes' section, children of all ages are encouraged to dream big, stay committed, create opportunities, and to value respect, graciousness, and sportsmanship. There's even advice on building lasting friendships and on just plain having fun. The parents' section offers vital insights into what motivates young competitors as well as simple tips and techniques for nurturing their natural tendencies and laying a solid foundation for a positive self-image. The coaches' section gives specific coaching strategies for building trust and caring fostering the strengths andcapabilities of a team, balancing discipline and comfort, and teaching players to be humble in victory and upright in defeat. The intense pressure to excel, the competition-crazed environment, the emphasis on winning above all else-these are signs that society has lost its focus on the real goals and benefits of youth sports. "The Rudy in You" delivers a solution and shows the tremendous value of quality sports for finding and nurturing the winning spirit in each child.
